Abstract

This work aims to investigate an Indonesian EFL student’s perceptions and experiences in repeatedly doing standardized English language proficiency test: TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). This standardized test has a significant role in the academic and professional lives of students (Anam, 2019); it contributes positively to students’ language proficiency and their future employment if they have higer and valid score in the test (Hsieh, 2017). This present study interviewed an Indonesian EFL student at a National University in Taiwan running an international program. The study participant passed the exam, but she did it repeatedly before she could pass it. This study used a qualitative phenomenological approach with an in-depth interview. The relevant findings illustrate that the participant reveals the reasons for failing the test: lack of self-awareness, lack of self-confidence, and the distance of the test venue from her dormitory. On the contrary, she passed the test by doing online simulation exam individually and modifying her study skills while preparing for the test. The failure process had a positive impact on her in making her to know her ability.

Abstract

One of the chronic microvascular complications that occurs in type 2 DM patients is diabetic nephropathy, which is a condition where the kidneys experience decreased function and damage to the blood filter membrane is caused by high blood sugar levels. The aim of this study was to determine the description of kidney function in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients by looking at the glomerular filtration rate from medical record data of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at RSU Royal Prima Medan. This type of research is descriptive observational research, the population in this study is the medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who received treatment at RSU Royal Prima Medan in 2022 with a sample size of 34 medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who received treatment at RSU Royal Prima Medan in 2022. 2022. Data analysis using univariate analysis. The results of the study showed that the frequency of Type 2 DM at RSU Royal Prima based on age was 5.9% of patients aged 35 - 45 years and 94.1% aged > 45 years. The frequency of Type 2 DM at RSU Royal Prima based on gender was found to be 52.9% for males and 47.1% for females. The frequency of Type 2 DM at RSU Royal Prima based on the duration of suffering from Type 2 DM was found to be 2.9% of patients with a duration of suffering < 1 year, 29.4% of patients with a duration of suffering of 1 - 5 years and patients with a duration of suffering > 5 years as many as 67.6%. Presentation of Type 2 DM Renal Function based on the age of 34 patients, the majority of GFR values were in the moderately declining GFR category for patients aged > 45 years as many as 19 (55.9%) patients. Presentation of Type 2 DM Kidney Function based on gender, the GFR value in patients based on gender of the 34 patients, the majority were in the moderately decreased GFR category in patients with female gender, 10 (29.5%) patients. Presentation of Kidney Function of Type 2 DM based on the length of time they have suffered from Type 2 DM, the GFR value in patients based on the length of time they have suffered from Type 2 DM out of 34 patients, the majority of them are in the GFR category of moderate decline in patients with a duration of suffering from DM > 5 years, 19 (55.9 %) patients.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of proving carrot tuber extract (Daucus carota L.) formulated in cream form can prevent an increase in the amount of melanin in the skin tissue of male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to UVB light and see histopathological changes due to carrot tuber extract given as a prevention of increasing the amount of melanin. This study is experimental with a post-test only control group research design. The test method used was testing the amount of melanin modified using a 13 watt Exoterra UVB 200 lamp. The animals tested were rats (Rattus norvegicus) male wistar strain aged 2-3 months, weighing ± 200 grams. Male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups. Each group consists of 5 male rats. The test area on the back of the back is 2x2 cm2. Group I male rats without cream administration as a negative control group, Group II male rats for Parasol Face Sunscreen Cream as a positive group. Group III is the group with the provision of basic ingredient cream and group IV-VI is the group with the administration of 25% carrot tuber extract cream; 50 %; 75 %. topically for 4 weeks.. The evaluation was performed by observing the amount of melanin at week 4 of histopathology analyzing in the test area. The results will be processed with IBM SPSS 21.0 and analyzed with the steps of Descriptive Analysis, Normality Analysis with data using Shapiro-Wilk test and Homogeneity using Levene's test, Comparative Analysis using one way Anova test, followed by Post-hoc test with LSD test. If the data is abnormal, use non-parametric analysis of the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that extra ethanol of carrot tubers can prevent the increase in the amount of melanin. This was shown by its ability to reduce melanin and histopathological changes in a group of male rats applied carrot tuber ethanol extract cream within 4 weeks
