Abstract

The usefulness of the addition of fermented herbs (katuk/Sauropus androgynusplus bay leaves) onfat accumulation, and chemical, amino acids and fatty acids composition ofbroiler meats was investigated.At 15 days of age, 280female broilers were divided into seven treatments, as follows:T0) the control;T1) broilers were given a ration with 2.5% fermented katuk plus bay leaf mixture formula 1;T2) broilerswere givena ration with 2.5% fermented katuk plus bay leaf mixture formula 2;T3) broilerswere givena ration with2.5% fermented katuk plus bay leaf mixture formula 3;T4) broilers were given a rationswith 5% fermented katuk plus bay leaf mixture formula 1;T5) broilers were givena ration with 5% fermented katuk plus bay leaf mixture formula 2;T6) broilers were givena ration with 5%  fermented katuk plus bay leaf mixture formula 3. The results of this study showed that the administration of fermented herbs to the ration significantly reduced abdominal fat, gizzard fat, total fat deposition, meat fat, and cholesterol contents. Their inclusions changed calcium, iron, moisture, serine, threonine, arginine, valine, lysine, methionine, myristic acid, pentadecanoic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, linolenic acid, cis-11,14-eicosadienoic acid, cis-5,8,11,14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid, and n-3 unsaturated fatty acids of female broiler meats. It can be concluded that administration of fermented herbs formula 2 at5% levels producedchicken meat with lowerfat and cholesterol levels, but higher protein, minerals and n-3 unsaturated fatty acidslevels.

Abstract

Some fatty acid supplements in concentrate containing Curcuma xanthorrhiza, ROXB wereevaluated for effects on milk yield, milk fat and protein, including milk fatty acid. Four lactating (4 ± 1.5months ) Fries Holland (FH) cows were allocated into four treatments of concentrate containing 4.5%palm oil (CP0), 4.5% corn oil (CP1), 4.5% roasted ground corn (CP2), and 1.5% corn oil and 3% roastedground corn (CP3), respectively, in 4 x 4 Latin Square experimental design with 3 d-period. Resultsshowed that there were no significant (P>0.05) effects on milk yield, milk fat and protein, and milk fattyacid. However, the highest average of milk production was found in CP2 (8.63 kg/d). Milk fat wasdecreasing to 3.81% in conjunction with the more potential total PUFA (71.81%) in CP3 with corn oiland roasted ground corn. Ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 in milk was the same in both, CP2 and CP3, itwas 2.14. However , since the objective of this research was to improve milk yield as well as milkcomponents and health concern, therefore the CP2 with roasted ground corn was considered as theoptimal one.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtain enriched eggs with low cholesterol content. Forty-eight laying hens (strain Dekalb Warren) aged 72 weeks were distributed into six treatment groups as follows: 1) Laying hens fed diet without Sauropus androgynus leaf extracts (SALE), fish oil and vitamin E (P0) as the control; 2) Laying hens were fed diet with 27 g SALE/kg diet, but without fish oil (P1); 3) Laying hens were fed diet with 27 g SALE/kg diet, 1.5% fish oil (P2); 4) Laying hens were fed diet with 27 g SALE/kg diet, 1.5% fish oil and 60 mg vitamin E/kg diet (P3); 5) Laying hens were fed diet with 27 g SALE/kg diet, 3% fish oil (P4); 6) Laying hens were fed diet with 27 g SALE/kg 3% fish oil and 60 mg vitamin E/kg diet (P5). Experimental results showed that the treatments affected (P <0.05) egg production, thick eggshell, egg white height, yolk color, the odor of eggs after the split (P <0.05). It was shown that the treatments had no effect on the contents of protein, fat, β-carotene of eggs but affected the contents of cholesterol and vitamin E of eggs. In conclusion, the treatments improved egg quality and increased egg Vitamin E but reduced egg cholesterol.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to identify the effect of the concentration of hydrochloric acid (HCl) on yield and the characteristics of gelatin from buffalo hide. A completely randomized design was used with various concentrations of HCl treatment 0.3M, 0.6M, 0.9 M, 1.2 M and 1.5M, and four times replication, followed by least significant difference test. The HCl concentration gave significantly effect (P<0.05) on yield, viscosity, pH, gel strength and redness of gelatin. The highest yield (29.17%) was obtained at a concentration of HCl 0.9M. The highest gel strength and viscosity at concentration of 1.2M, were 293.41g bloom and 22.17 cp, respectively. The pH of the gelatin were 5.08 to 5.52. The lightness level (L*) was 69.92-70.97, whereas the redness ranged (a*)  from 0.55 to 1.54 and the yellowness ranged (b*) from 17.54 to 19.59. The moisture, protein and ash concentrations of gelatin were 7.05±0.07-8.92±0.06%, protein content of 83.38±0.06 -91.11±0.03%, and the ash content 0.53 ± 0.04 to 1.23 ± 0.09%, respectively. Based on the spectra absorption of infrared were detected four areas amides: amide A (3402.43-3448.72 cm-1), amide I (1635.65 cm-1), amide II (1527.62 cm-1) and amide III (1242.16 cm-1). The differences in the concentration of HCl had impact on yield,characteristics and secondary structure of buffalo hide gelatin. The HCl concentration at 0.9M was the optimum condition to obtain the highest yield. The characteristics of buffalo hide gelatin after pretreatment using hydrochloric acid had met the standards of GMIA (2012).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze of Sauropus androgynus (SA) leaves powder supplementation on kampung hens reproductive traits. Forty kampung hens aged 4-5 months were distributed randomly into 4 treatments with 10 replications. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used as research design. Samples were placed in individual postal-litter system cages. The four groups were fed diets supplemented with 0, 4, 8, and 12% SA leaves powder for 8 weeks, respectively. The supplementation of SA leaves powder affected serum steroid hormone progesterone (P4) metabolite (P < 0.05), serum steroid hormone estradiol-17β (E2) metabolite concentration and a number of medium follicles yield significantly (P < 0.01). Concentration levels of serum steroid hormone E2 and P4 metabolites were 1 to 5-fold and 2 to 14-fold higher in supplemented hens than non-supplemented, respectively. In conclusion, supplementation of SA leaves increased serum steroid hormone E2 and P4 metabolite concentration, number, and weight of follicles. The role of precursor contained in SA leaves powder detected on Indonesia kampung hen’s reproductive traits.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of vitamin E supplementation to diet containing herbal mixture on performance, meat quality, hematological status and fat deposition of broiler chickens. Eighty 15-day-old female broilers were distributed into 2 treatment groups with 4 replications (10 female broilers of each replication) as follows. Feed with FSBL plus 1 g of turmeric and 2 g garlic (P1) and Feed of P1 plus vitamin E (P2). Vitamin E supplementation had no effect on performance, carcass weight, meat bone ratio, drip loss and cooking loss, gizzard, spleen, proventriculus, gallbladder, heart, caecum, intestine, fat depot in abdomen, sartorial, neck, heart, proventriculus, and liver as expressed by fatty liver score, blood triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL and HDL concentrations, moisture, and fat and ash contents of meats.  However, it reduced liver weight, toxicity score, gizzard fat depot and meat protein. In conclusion, vitamin E supplementation to  diet containg herbal mixture reduced meat protein, toxicity score, and gizzard fat depot.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the impact of modified rice bran tempeh on performance, carcass quality, organoleptic properties, fat deposition, and nutritional meat composition in broiler. This research used a completely randomized design. Two hundred broilers (a male to female ratio of 1:1) were divided into 4 treatment groups with 5 replications for each treatment, as follows: P1 = Feed without modified rice bran tempeh; P2 = Feed with 20% rice bran tempeh; P3 = Feed with 20% modified rice bran tempeh; and; P4 = Feed with 25% modified rice bran tempeh. The experimental results showed that all treatment groups had similar performance. The treatments significantly reduced (P<0.05) abdominal fat and total fat deposition. In addition, the treatments also significantly reduced meat fat and ash content (P<0.01), but it significantly increased (P<0.01) moisture contents. It was concluded that feeding 20% or 25% modified rice bran tempeh reduced meat fat content and fat deposition without reducing broiler performance.
