Abstract

SDN Kedungmlati is the only public elementary school in Kedungmlati village. The school lacks the infrastructure to support the teaching and learning process. They do not have adequate teaching aids to help the students learn abstract concepts in mathematics. We carried out this community service to introduce the PERIODIK teaching aid to respond to their needs. PERIODIK teaching aids are aids in learning basic mathematical operations, which include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers. This activity, conducted in the academic year of 2019/2020, aimed to increase the students' soft skills in using the PERIODIK teaching aid and thus develop their understanding of basic mathematical operations. The soft skills we expected the students to gain include the skills to use the teaching aid, be persistent, and be able to cooperate with others. This activity was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and reporting, and evaluated using two instruments: a questionnaire and a written test. The questionnaire was distributed to the students before and after the training, whereas the written test was conducted only at the end of the activity. We used paired samples t-test to measure the students’ soft skills and independent samples t-test to examine whether the students had reached achieved the minimum score of 80. The results show that teaching aids can improve students' soft skills and understanding of the four basic mathematical operations. The PERIODIK then became an inventory of SDN Kedungmlati for learning mathematics.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan konseptual peserta didik dalam menyelesaiakan soal nilai mutlak berdasarkan Teori APOS (Aksi, Proses, Objek, Skema). Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas X SMAN Ploso tahun ajaran 2019/2020 yang diambil berdasarkan tingkat kemampuan matematika tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Metode pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode tes dan wawancara. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan tes tertulis dan wawancara. Pengecekan keabsahan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan triangulasi waktu. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu (1) peserta didik berkemampuan matematika tinggi telah membentuk aksi, proses, objek dan skema pada setiap jenis kemampuan konseptual, (2) peserta didik berkemampuan matematika sedang membentuk aksi, proses, objek dan skema pada kemampuan klasifikasi dan kategori, serta kemampuan prinsip dan generalisasi, membentuk aksi, proses, dan objek pada kemampuan teori, model, dan struktur, (3) peserta didik berkemampuan matematika rendah membentuk aksi pada setiap jenis kemampuan konseptual. The research aims to describe students conceptual abilities in solving absolute value question based on APOS Theory (Action, Process, Object, Schema). The subject of this research were student of class X SMAN Ploso for the academic year 2019/2020 which were taken based on high, medium, and law levels of mathematics abilities. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection methods this research uses the methods of test and interview. Technique data collection this research using written test and interview. Checking the validity data this research using triangulation time. The result of this research indicate that (1) student with high mathematics ability have formed action, process, object, and scheme for each types conceptual abilities, (2) student with medium mathematics ability is forming action, process, object, and scheme on the ability of classification and categories, the ability of principles and generalizations, forming action, process, and object on the ability of the theory, models, and structures, (3) student with law mathematics ability formed action for each types conceptual abilities.
