Abstract

Local and modern acculturation architecture in P-House building, Salatiga Local and modern acculturated house concept is widely applied, one of which is the P-House by Budi Pradono in Salatiga. Understanding about of the existence of local and modern elements in building design method is necessary to cultivate and strengthen the local value to be preserved in the modern era and to enrich the culture itself. In the case of this P-House study we can describe the existence of local and modern values in the building into the concept of tread, shape, space, structure, and material and then to find out the dominating aspect between local and modern values of the three building segments. The results of the process will demonstrate the dominance and placement of local and modern elements chosen by Budi Pradono in designing the P-House. The study used a descriptive method to describe the study object, analytic method to dissect the study object with theory, and interpretive method in drawing conclusions in an attempt to understand the dominance of local and modern values in the design method as well as to define the form of acculturation used or classified through the design of residential buildings. © 2020 Adityo Purnomo, Bachtiar Fauzy

Abstract

Domination of local-modern acculturation in Casablancka residence, Bali The phenomenon of local-modern architecture acculturation is important to explore because it can be used as a concept of contemporary architecture (kiwari architecture). The research object in this study is Casablancka Residence building in Bali. The object of research is a new building which is still rarely studied, especially from the aspect of architectural acculturation. This research aims to uncover various forms of acculturation of local and modern architecture in terms of various aspects of the form of acculturation, also to see which one is more dominant between local and modern architecture in the Casablancka Residence building. The Archetype Theory is then used to uncover the architectural phenomenon of Casablancka Residence building. Through a descriptive-analytical-interpretative approach, the characteristic of the acculturation will be revealed. The results of this study found a stronger dominance of local elements whose outlines appear on the roofs and floors of buildings that use strong local forms and materials, while modern elements are more dominant on the walls of buildings dominated by modern glass materials. The benefits of this study are expected to contribute positively for the community to raise the awareness of the importance of locality in building and preserving local culture and architecture. The other benefits are to increase architectural knowledge for academics and practitioners.

Abstract

Globalization is being experienced throughout the world with its impact also observed in architecture, even in traditional villages of Indonesia. Some of them have, however, been able to maintain their identity such as the mass-space pattern of the customary village of Bali Aga Mountains in Bali which is discovered not to have changed. This research was, therefore, conducted to determine the relationship between the activities of the traditional society and their mass-space patterns using the customary village of Bali Aga Tenganan Pegringsingan as the case study. This involved the selection of respondents purposively and collection of data using cross sections by identifying unchanged buildings, taking photos, videos, drones, and through direct interviews in the field. The data obtained were analyzed qualitatively based on structuring theory or ordering principles and the results confirmed the mass-space pattern in Tenganan Pegringsingan village was built due to the close relations with the traditional activities of the society. The findings can be used in developing architecture by local governments as policymakers as well as academic architects and practitioners, and the wider society. © 2020 Lydia Dewi Setiawan, Purnama Salura, Bachtiar Fauzy
