Abstract

This research aimed to uncover collective memory denial of the victims’ families of Students who died in Trisakti and Semanggi Tragedy 1998-1999. We described how this pattern of collective memory denial works. This research used the qualitative approach to the instrumental case study. The participants were three mothers of students who died in Trisakti and Semanggi tragedy. We carried out interviews and field note as data collecting technique. This data was analysed using thematic analysis technique. The result showed that there is a denial of collective memory which is experienced by victims’ families of students who died at Trisakti and Semanggi tragedy. The pattern is formed systematically, orderly, and deliberately. This denial showed that the government deliberately prevented the people to remember this tragedy. Collective memory denial causes so many negative effects, such as conspiracy of silence on the people and second victimization for victims’ families. Moreover, these effects included the form of prejudice, mistrust, aversion, and vengeance between the people. When social sharing continuously assembles, it will finish the emotional problem of a negative event. On the other hand, social sharing will develop subjective well-being of the people in that community, not only in short-term but also in long-term. Collective memory which is healthy distributed, motivates the community to discuss, express, and cope the painful trauma in the past.

Abstract

In the last two decades, Indonesian higher education system has expanded rapidly in regards to the number of new established institutions and the number of students enrolled in higher education. However, the participation rate within university level is stated as low. In 2016, it only reached 31 percent. It means, although massification has been implemented within higher education system, it is not in line in ensuring equal access to pupils from disadvantaged social groups such as women, lower socio-economic statuses, and students from outer or periphery areas. Rather, it has been evident as a daunting task. Widening participation is not the end of story, since Indonesia should be dealing with another problem which is non-continuation. By performing secondary analysis on several datasets released by World Bank, Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, and Indonesian Statistics Bureau, this paper explores several major findings on accessibility and retention problem of Indonesian higher education.

Abstract

Excessive energy consumption is the main cause of high emissions in our atmosphere, so that energy conservation remains a vital issue in combatting climate change. This research aimed to investigate determinant factors that supported the conservation behavior of green electronic products and non-subsidised petrol consumer. Energy conservation behavior can be explained by two dimensions; psychological dimension, which is pro-environmental values and attitudes; and positional dimension, which is socioeconomic status. The research was conducted using a social survey design by employing a combination of the paper-based an online questionnaire. Involving 143 respondents, this research came into conclusion that key determinant factor which influenced energy conservation behavior in household sector is external motivation or reducing household energy costs, so that it can be categorized as a rational decision. Meanwhile, in the transportation sector, intrinsic motivation and pro-environmental values were important determinant factors that enticing energy consumption behavior. Therefore, energy conservation behavior in the transportation sector is determined by internal factors, so that it is mentioned as an idealistic decision. Abstrak. Konsumsi energi yang berlebihan merupakan penyebab utama menumpuknya emisi karbon di atmosfir, sehingga isu mengenai konservasi energi menjadi isu yang penting untuk mengatasi perubahan iklim. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi faktor determinan yang berpengaruh pada perilaku konservasi energi pada pengguna produk elektronik ramah lingkungan dan bahan bakar non-subsidi. Perilaku konservasi energi dapat dijelaskan oleh dua dimensi; dimensi psikologis, yaitu nilai dan sikap pro-lingkungan; dan dimensi positional, yang mencakup status sosioekonomi. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian survei sosial dan menggunakan kombinasi kuesioner cetak dan daring yang diisi oleh 143 responden. Faktor determinan perilaku konservasi energi pada skala rumah tangga yang utama adalah motivasi eksternal, yaitu penghematan biaya belanja energi, sehingga dapat digolongkan sebagai keputusan rasional. Namun pada sektor transportasi, faktor determinan yang utama adalah motivasi intrinsik dan nilai pro-lingkungan. Artinya, perilaku konservasi dalam sektor transportasi ditimbulkan oleh faktor-faktor internal yang idealis, sehingga dapat dikategorikan sebagai keputusan idealis.
