Abstract

The objective of this research is to assess the impact of PGPR, Trichocompost, and MOL on the growth and quality of production, as well as the incidence of disease-causing microorganisms in tomato plants. This study will be conducted by comparing the use of beneficial organic microorganisms namely PGPR, Trichocompost, and MOL with inorganic farming systems that utilize synthetic fertilizers and manure as sources of nutrition for tomato plants. The research method employed a randomized block design consisting of three treatments as follows: Treatment A involved a combination of PGPR, Trichocompost, and MOL; Treatment B utilized inorganic fertilizers N, P, K along with foliar fertilizers Gandasil D and B; Treatment C consisted of chicken manure. Each treatment was replicated five times, with 50 plants per plot, resulting in a total of 750 plants for observation. The results indicated that the application of PGPR, Trichocompost, and MOL positively influenced the average flowering time, the average weight of 50 fruits, and the duration until fruit decay during the growth, development, and production phases of tomato plants. Furthermore, the use of PGPR, Trichocompost, and MOL effectively reduced the incidence of the fungal pathogen P. palmivora on leaves, the bacterial disease Erwinia sp. on leaves, and the fungal disease P. palmivora on fruit stems.

Abstract

Postharvest damage to potatoes can occur due to plant physiological disorders, such as evaporation (transpiration), respiration (respiration), tubers sprouting, and tubers becoming too ripe. This research aims to design, manufacture, and test an evaporative cooling device using a direct spray method from a fan into a room or box by conducting technical tests about temperature, humidity (RH), signs of potato damage, weight loss, and water content. The test was carried out using an evaporative cooling device (evaporative cooler) for 30 days.    This research tested the effectiveness of the evaporative cooling system compared to room outside storage on potato quality for 30 days observationally. The results show that evaporative cooling equipment can prolong the shelf life of fresh potatoes in tropical areas according to physical parameters such as signs of damage to potatoes during storage, water content, and percentage of weight loss. For future development, increasing the fan and cooling pad to medium size is necessary for more effective equipment. An evaporative cooler is a cost-efficient and sustainable method for preserving agricultural produce in rural areas far from urban centers.

Abstract

Oil-free cooking technologies are increasingly important for promoting healthier diets, reducing dependency on volatile oil markets, and enabling sustainable food processing—particularly in rural and resource-constrained environments. This study presents the design and evaluation of a low-cost air fryer prototype powered by incandescent bulbs (60–150 W), constructed using locally available materials. Thermal performance testing showed that the prototype achieved stable chamber temperatures up to 115 °C, enabling effective oil-free frying of potato slices, banana slices, and chicken nuggets. Frying performance, measured through cooking time, moisture reduction, and sensory evaluation, demonstrated acceptable product quality with significant energy savings: only 25–75 Wh per cycle, roughly one-tenth the energy use of conventional commercial air fryers. The prototype also offers potential as a multifunctional device for dehydration and defrosting, supporting broader postharvest applications in smallholder agritech. These results highlight a promising pathway for low-power, low-cost, and sustainable food processing technologies suitable for deployment in rural communities. Future work will focus on optimizing performance, expanding product capabilities, and validating user acceptance in real-world agritech settings. Keywords: Low-power Air fryer, incandescent bulb heating, oil-free cooking, energy-efficient food processing, sustainable technology.

Abstract

Problems in developing the coconut-based creative industry in North Sulawesi Province include limited business capital and modern processing technology, inconsistent product quality, and weak promotion and marketing. As a result, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector is unable to maximize the potential of coconuts as a significant source of added value. This study aims to examine the added value of coconut-based food products and formulate policy strategies for the development of coconut-based creative industries MSME level. The research method is added value analysis using the Hayami (1987) approach and SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) for policy strategy formulation. The results of the study show that the output value of coconut-based food products reaches IDR 250,000 per unit, with an added value of IDR 25,214 per product and an added value ratio of 71%. Labor compensation is recorded at IDR 3,044 per kilogram or 12% of the added value, while the profit obtained is IDR 22,170 per product or 88%. SWOT analysis recommends a development strategy oriented towards a combination of S-O (Strengths–Opportunities) and W-O (Weaknesses–Opportunities), through improving production capacity and quality, strengthening promotion, and building partnerships with stakeholders, facilitated by the local government
