Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari penggunaan model pembelajaran TGT terhadap hasil belajar kemampuan membaca mahasiswa IPTS semester 2 tahun akademik 2017/2018. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan menerapkan metode quasi experimental (one group pretest posttest desain). Berdasarkan hasil tes, kemampuan membaca sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan TGT diperoleh, a) nilai mean, median, modus, mengalami peningkatan dan berbanding terbalik dengan standard deviasi yang mengalami penurunan dan b) grafik histogram juga menunjukkan kategori baik (good) dan sangat baik (very good) mengalami peningkatan sebaliknya kategori cukup, kurang dan gagal mengalami penurunan. Selanjutnya berdasarkan inferesial statistik dengan menggunakan ttest one tail diperoleh nilai thitung lebih besar dari pada ttable (10.54>1.70). Artinya terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari penggunaan model pembelajaran TGT terhadap hasil belajar kemampuan membaca mahasiswa IPTS semester 2 tahun akademik 2017/2018. Abstract

This research aims to explain the students’ writing ability in term of cohesive writing and to analyze the factor that causes students’ problems in using cohesive devices in writing analytical expository text. This research is a mixed method research purpose to build on the synergy and strength that exist between quantitative and qualitative research methods to understand a phenomenon. The data were the fourth semester students of English department of Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan. The sample were consisting of 40 students. The finding shows that the quality of students’ writing was in the level of low category. They have problems in using cohesive devices. The problems are related to the use of reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion. The reason of the problems in using cohesive devices in writing is based on linguistic, pragmatic, cognitive and cultural factor. Four of them give influence that causes the lack cohesive writing. Therefore, an intensive attention should be given by the lecture to facilitate the students to practice writing in the classroom and do peer correction.

Abstract

Abstract

abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan hasil TOEFL dan menganalisis skill yang paling sulit dirasakan oleh mahasiswa IPTS semester VIII tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan 40 mahasiswa sebagai sampel dan mereka diambil dengan menggunakan purposive sampling dari 96 mahasiswa. Selanjutnya tes dagnostik dan wawancara digunakan sebagai alat pengumpil data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Listening Coprehension adalah bagian tersulit dirasakan oleh mahasiswa diikuti oleh Structure and Written Expression dan Reading Comprehension. Selanjutnya di bagian Listening Comprehensioan tergambar bahwa long conversation adalah skill yang tersulit dirasakan oleh mahasiswa kemudian talking dan short conversation. Di bagian Structure and Written Expression tergambar bahwa structure merupakan skill yang paling sulit daripada written expression. Selanjutnya di bagian Reading Conprehension tergambar bahwa mengidentifikasi makna kata- kata sulit merupakan skil yang tersulit dirasakan oleh mahasiswa kemudian mengidentifikasi topik, kalimat penjelas, dan reference merupkan skill yang paling mudah dirasakan oleh mahasiswa di bagian Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

The purposes of this research was compare the effect of using GI and Co-op Co-op learningmodels in teaching reading comprehension of report text at the eleventh grade TKJ students ofSMK Negeri 1 Lumut. The population of this research consist of 71 students. The sample consistof 33 students taught teaching reading comprehension of report text by using GI learning modeland 38 students were taught teaching reading comprehension of report text by Co-op Co-oplearning model. The researcher used total sampling technique to get the sample. The data wasgotten by giving the test included 25 questions of multiple choices. The result of the researchshowed 1) There is any significant effect of using GI learning model in teaching readingcomprehension of report text and the score N-Gain is 13.887 (low category), 2) There is anysignificant effect of using Co-op Co-op learning model in teaching reading comprehension ofreport text and the score N-Gain is 7.755 (low category),and 3) GI is better than Co-op Co-oplearning model at the eleventh grade TKJ students of SMK Negeri 1 Lumut because the score N-Gain of GI is more than score N-Gain of Co-op Co-op learning model.
