Abstract

This article uncovered the instructional strategies used by Junior High English teacher to assist students to achieve the determined Minimum Criterion of Mastery Learning (MCML) or KKM (Kriteria Kompetensi Minimal). The subjects of the study were 4 English Teachers of Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools in Surabaya. They were assumed to have had enough experiences in teaching EFL to the students. The main instrument of the study was a semi structured questionnaire. There were ten strategies used by English Teachers of Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools to assist their students to meet the Minimum Criterion of Mastery Learning. They are (1) Conducting short review, (2) Teaching step-by-step, (3) Giving a large number of questions, (4) Giving a large number of questions, (5) Guiding the students’ practices, (6) Checking the students’ understanding, (7) Obtaining high success rate. (8) Providing scaffolds for difficult tasks, (9) Assessing independent practices, and (10) Conducting weekly and monthly review. Keywords: Minimum Criterion of Mastery Learning (MCML), strategies

Abstract

The aim of this community service activity (Abdimas) is to provide training to PPT Mutiara Bunda Ondomohen teachers to get to know the basic concepts of Computational Thinking (CT) and to infuse them in the subjects taught so that they can provide CT skills to solve complex problems in everyday life -student day. The partners in community service activities are the mothers of PPT Mutiara Bunda Ondomohen PAUD, totaling 4 people. The implementation of this community service activity was carried out over 8 meetings within one month and consisted of 2 stages, namely the stage of introducing CT and making educational game tools (APE) that support CT in learning as well as the stage of using CT-based APE media in the classroom. The conclusion is that the training carried out for PPT Mutiara Bunda Ondomohen teachers can improve the teachers' skills in infusing CT into subjects.

Abstract

This community service program aims to guide early childhood education teachers in integrating Computational Thinking (CT) principles into classroom learning using English as the language of instruction. The implementation method of this community service activity consisted of workshops and mentoring sessions. The target participants of this program were PAUD teachers at PPT Mutiara Bunda Ondomohen Surabaya. The data collected through observation sheets and documentation was analyzed to know teachers' ability to incorporate CT principles into teaching and implement them in the classroom. The results of this community service program indicated an improvement in teachers' teaching skills through their efforts to integrate critical thinking skills and CT principles into the learning process.
