Abstract

Planning and designing Children Care and Education Centre in Surakarta, that running out inclusive education, is motivated by the importance of developing the potential of children at early age. But unfortunately, this is not supported by the availability of educational facilities in the early levels, especially those who are able to serve both children with and without disabilities. Inclusive learning method is chosen as the most suitable learning method for both children with and without disabilities. The main issue of this design is how building’s elements accommodate both children with and without disabilities and support inclusive environment. The implementation of psychology of architecture’s concepts is used to support the growth and development of both children with and without disabilities through internal and external stimulation. Those stimulations are given through activity and architectural element such as room’s layout, room’s interior, building façade and complementary elements like landscape. Those would support the interaction between both children with and without disabilities in creating inclusive environment that support the learning process and development of every child.

Abstract

Rabbits are classified as a mammal in the order Lagomorpha. Rabbit offers various potentials and benefits yet still unnoticeable by many. As cosmopolitan animal, the mammal adapts easily into wide range of habitats. Karanganyar is an example where one may find rabbits’ rearing and breeding industries. At the moment, such industries limit their operation to merely provide the demands of rabbits meat. Moreover, Directorate of Livestock and Animal Health of Karanganyar states rabbit farmers in the area (specifically Tawangmangu) once underwent livestock failure.Karanganyar Government plans to create several leisure- and education-based tourist attractions to diversify its tourism industry, which in turn directly contribute to people’s welfare. Based on the notion, a Taman Kelinci is proposed as a way to harness rabbits’ potentials. Its plan and design utilise sustainable architecture methodology since it fits the purpose of symbiotical relations between the environmental, economical, social, and cultural matters; the realisation of the design will benefit the people economically without neglecting other aspects stated beforehand. The Taman Kelinci is an effort to explore rabbits’ potentials  as well as to attract and benefit people – which covers four issues that is education, leisure, conservation, and marketing.  Keywords: Education, Leisure, Rabbit, Sustainable Architecture.

Abstract

There are some reasons in building Handicraft Market in Klaten. The reasons are; there are so many handicraft potentials around Klaten, unavailable places which can provide all of the handicraft potentials in Klaten, and government’s plan in developing facilities in Klaten. However, many young people start to leave and forget this heritage that should be protected. The problem that appears is how to design the facilities that can support and develop vacation industry in Klaten that consist of trading activity, giving information and promoting handicraft, and also recreation place. Therefore, it can make Klaten knowing by people. The method that is used in designing the market is architecture metaphor. The shape and meaning that is applied into the design is taken from Juwiring umbrella. The result is design of a Handicraft Market in Klaten which can provide place for trading activity, giving information and promoting handicraft, and recreation which its design and building adopts from Juwiring umbrella’s shape. Juwiring umbrella is one of Klaten special handicrafts, so the expression of building reflects the activity inside the market. Then, Juwiring umbrella can preserve its existence and become Klaten’s icon. Keywords: Market, Handicraft, Architecture Metaphor, Juwiring umbrella
