Abstract

One of the criteria of a good mosque is a good quality of building acoustic for some ibadah purposes, such as prayer and Friday speech. Mosques with medium size actually need no reinforcement system yet. Unfortunately, most of Indonesian mosques’ typological form were given very little attention about their acoustical problem. Such problems have found in almost every mosques. Therefore, some strategies are needed to fix the problem. Those strategies can be practiced on mosque’s interior surfaces such as ceiling, walls, and floor. One of the strategy is using the absorption material on the wall and the floor, beside using the reflection material on the ceiling. The placement of those materials depends on the path of the sound. The strategy can be used in every form of mosque with only  little different treatment in each mosque’s form. With this strategy, it is expected that mosques with medium size will no longer use the reinforcement system, yet the voice still can reach all of the jamaah. Thus this strategy can be used to reduce the use of energy in these buildings.

The aim of this study is to find a recommendation design for mualaf center based on the issue in Malaysia. The discussion uses literature study method which will be analyzed descriptively. So the result of the discussion is a summary of design criteria that proper with the issue. This design criterion will be integrated using relevant design theme approach, i.e. sustainable architecture. The design criteria that is already integrated is the availability of guidance and consultation facilities, also entrepreneur practice facility toward psychological and economical effects. With by the guidance in this mualaf center, the mualaf will be capable of adapting to the social environment around them and also can rebuild their economic life as before in islamic ways.

Abstract

Tahfidz Islamic boarding school is a traditional boarding school that focuses on learning Islam and Quran. Recently, the need for this kind of school for junior and senior high school is increasing in Indonesia. One of the cities that has a high demand for that kind of education is Nganjuk. Nganjuk has many traditional Tahfidz boarding schools that are already running for decades. The design of the existing tahfidz schools is not suitable for modern life, while people nowadays search the school in a contemporary design. There is a paradox in this statement that people want a modern design for a traditional education method. The extending tradition design approach is the appropriate answer to this problem. This study aims to find the proper design for tahfidz boarding school using extending tradition design approach. The method for this design approach used tradition as the basic idea for the design and modified it to be suitable for modern society. The concept of the design is a tradition of togetherness, the culture of continuity, and tradition of socializing. The idea is appropriate for the tahfidz and the Islamic tradition values in modern life.

Abstract

As one of the prominent public spaces for the community, Mosque is considered one of the high energy consumption buildings. Many modern mosques are designed and built without respecting the contextual environment, resulting in a non-environmental friendly Mosque. In Malaysia, the operating cost of mosques is majorly relying on public funds, and statistically are high specifically for electricity usage. Due to the use of air conditioners in cooling down the huge prayer hall due to the non-environmental design consideration. Hence, it is crucial to justify sustainable design approaches in mosques to develop environmentally friendly mosques. On the other side, the environmentally friendly mosque design is important as one of the monumental Islamic symbols that shall manifest Islam's values and philosophies towards the benefits of 'Alam' (world). The main objective of this study is to analyze the principles of Islamic methods in attaining the attributes of sustainable mosque design. It systematically reviews the existing publications to discover the concepts, definitions, and issues regarding the sustainable design approach-es for Mosque. Based on the conducted reviews, sustainable design strategies for mosques are suggested at the end of this paper. The Mosque can use some renewable technologies to save energy and be concerned about the climate condition for its design. Furthermore, it can also use sustainable materials, use natural ventilation and daylighting to provide good indoor air quality and be concerned about the social life of Muslim's religious activities.

Abstract

This research is significant to fill the gaps in the development of green building concepts that give an emphasis to the technical strategies or solutions. This study used the thematic Quranic interpretation method (maudhu'i). It was done by collecting verses from the Quran related to the environment in general, specifically using quantitative content analysis. The result shows that there are two significant main categories stated for greenship based on thematic, mainly ASD and WAC. It reaches the most vital points. It is 56.1% points of ASD and 28.5% of WAC. It is expected that, by applying this approach, the green building concept will be much easier to be accepted, understood by human being as caliphs, and implemented as well as possible.

Abstract

This research investigates the influence of extrinsic motivation on intrinsic motivation during worship at home and its implications for designing worship spaces within residential settings. The study explores the interplay between extrinsic and intrinsic motivations by employing a mixed-method approach, including qualitative and quantitative methods such as sequential mixed methods and factor analysis. The findings reveal that extrinsic motivation significantly shapes intrinsic motivation during worship at home. The research highlights the significance of privacy in fostering intrinsic motivation during home worship, where private spaces create a conducive environment for individuals to attain solemnity in their worship. In contrast to public spaces like mosques, designing dedicated worship spaces at home becomes essential to ensure a disturbance-free and enhanced worship experience. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the relationship between extrinsic and intrinsic motivations during worship at home. The identified tranquillity, spatial comfort, privacy, and spatial dimension can serve as essential considerations in designing worship spaces to enrich the worshippers' solemn experience within residential settings by architects or designers.
