Abstract

This study was conducted to determine whether organic waste from the substrate of Tubifex sp. can be used as inoculants to produce them through culture.   Substrate used was the mix of mud and chicken manure by ratio of 1:1, placed on the container 80×20×15 cm, water elevation 2 cm, and water debit 300 ml/min.  Inoculants number was ranged from 57 to 60 Tubifex sp. per container. The length of Tubifex sp. body was ranged from 0.9 to 3.5 cm and an individual mean weight of 2.78 mg.   Organic waste applied was 500 g, 1000 g, and 1500 g.  Rearing was performed for 50 days.  During experiment chicken manure of 0.075 g/m2 was added into culture every day.  The results of study showed that higher population of Tubifex sp. (174,227 tails/m2; 413.7 gram wet weight) was obtained by using 1000 g of organic waste.  Thus, organic waste derived from the substrate of Tubifex sp. from the nature can be reused to culture Tubifex sp. at the controlled container. Keywords: Tubifex, organic waste, population   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah limbah organik sisa hasil penangkapan cacing sutera dari alam dapat digunakan sebagai inokulan untuk memproduksi cacing sutera melalui kegiatan budidaya.  Substrat yang digunakan berupa campuran lumpur dan kotoran ayam dengan perbandingan komposisi masing-masing 1:1, ditempatkan dalam wadah berukuran 80×20×15 cm, debit air 300 ml/menit/wadah, dan tinggi air 2 cm.   Jumlah cacing yang ditebar antara 57 - 60 ekor, panjang cacing 0,9 - 3,5 cm, dengan bobot individu rata-rata 2,78 mg. Limbah organik sebagai inokulan awal cacing sutera masing-masing seberat 500 g, 1.000 g dan 1.500 g. Pemeliharaan dilakukan selama 50 hari.  Selama pemeliharaan dilakukan pemupukan menggunakan kotoran ayam sebanyak 0,075 g/m2 setiap hari.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa populasi cacing tertinggi diperoleh dengan menggunakan limbah organik sebanyak 1.000 gram (174.227 ekor/m2; 413,7 g).  Dengan demikian, limbah organik substrat cacing sutera dari alam dapat digunakan kembali untuk budidaya cacing di wadah terkontrol. Abstract

Chironomus sp. larvae or called as bloom worm contains high nutrient and caroten that are important to support fish and shellfish culture, especially ornamental fishes.  Larval Chironomus is abundant in environment rich of organic and inorganic compounds. This study was carried out to examine growth and productivity of Chironomus larvae reared in water containing 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 g of chicken manure per liter water.   The growth of chironomus larvae for 4 weeks rearing was reached a peak at the third week. Larva Chironomus banyak terdapat di perairan yang mengandung bahan organik tinggi sehingga diperlukan pemupukan baik organik maupun anorganik untuk merangsang petumbuhannya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan produktivitas larva Chironomus yang dipelihara dalam air yang mengandung 1,0, 1,5, 2,0 dan 2,5 g kotoran ayam per liter air. Pertumbuhan larva yang dipelihara selama 4 minggu pada media yang dipupuk menggunakan kotoran ayam sebanyak 1,0; 1,5; 2,0 dan 2,5 gr/l masing-masing mengalami puncak pada minggu ke-3. Populasi terbanyak mencapai 19680 ekor terjadi pada media dengan dosis pemupukan tertinggi. Pertumbuhan panjang maupun berat larva Chironomus yang dipelihara dengan pemupukan media yang berbeda tersebut masing-masing tidak berbeda nyata. Abstract

Demand of "dumbo" catfish is going to increase every year so that fry production should be increased in order  to support intensification culture system to meet market demand. Intensification in fish culture system may cause decreasing of dissolved oxygen content  and producing high level waste in the pond culture.  The effort to control inorganic nitrogen in intensive culture system can be performed by adding wheat powder into fish culture media.  This can support metabolic process of nitrogen by microbe and then produce protein in terms of bacteria biomass production, so that inorganic nitrogen in the water decreases.  Fish can utilize protein from  microbe efficiently. This study was conducted to examine effect of rearing density on "dumbo" catfish fry production in the culture system by controlling nitrogen content in water through addition of  wheat powder.  "Dumbo" catfish fry of 12-day old in average body weight of 0.046±0.006 gram and length of 1.7±0.9 cm were reared for 28 days in density of 400, 800 and 1200 fish/m2.  The results of study showed that weight and body length of fry reached 1.35 gram and 5.1 cm, respectively. Average of daily growth and production were 10.47 - 11.48% and 2.49 - 3.54 g per day, respectively. Increased of rearing density was insignificantly (p>0.05) affected growth rate and daily production.  Average growth in absolute length, survival rate and feed efficiency was about 2.7-3.2 cm, 36.20 - 53.88% and 147 - 172%, respectively.  Increased in rearing density was followed by decreased growth in length (p0,05) terhadap laju pertumbuhan dan produksi harian. Nilai rata-rata pertumbuhan panjang mutlak, kelangsungan hidup dan efisiensi pakan masing-masing berkisar 2,7-3,2 cm, 36,20 - 53,88% dan 147 - 172%.
