Abstract

Olimpiade matematika merupakan sebuah kegiatan yang rutin diikuti oleh setiap kabupaten/ kotasetiap tahunnya khususnya dinas pendidikan kota Medan. Oleh karena itu, setiap SMP Di KotaMedan mempersiapkan siswa-siswinya untuk mengikuti kegiatan OSNMatematika tersebut dimanasalah satunya SMP Swasta Namira Islamic School Medan. Pelajaran matematika di SMP SwastaNamira Islamic School Medan hanya diperoleh siswa pada saat jam pelajaran sekitar 4-6 jampelajaran kemudian ditambah dengan kegitan les matematika tambahan sekitar 2 jam pelajaransetiap minggunya. Dengan demikian, kemampuan siswa SMP Swasta Namira Islamic SchoolMedan untuk mengikuti kegiatan olimpiade matematika masih kurang. Hal ini berdasarkan masihminimnya partisipasi dan prestasi siswa dalam mengikuti kegiatan olimpiade matematika. Olehkarena itu, perlu dilakukan pembinaan khusus olimpiade matematika bagi siswa-siswi SMP SwastaNamira Islamic School Medan. Adapun jenis pembinaan olimpiade matematika yang akandiberikan yaitu program pembinaan dengan struktur program 30%pemantapan teori, 50%latihansoal, dan sisanya 20% wawancara atau moderasi. Tujuannya adalah untuk meningkatkankemampuan siswa dalam memahami dan menyelesaikan soal-soal olimpiade matematikasehingga dapat meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam kegiatan olimpiade matematika yang akandiadakan tahun depan.

Abstract

This study explores the ethnomathematical elements in the architecture of the Kabanjahe Grand Mosque. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with an ethnographic lens, data was collected through observation, interviews, and visual documentation. The findings reveal that the mosque’s architecture incorporates geometric shapes, such as squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles, which reflect both mathematical and cultural significance. These elements demonstrate how mathematics can be integrated into local culture and used as a teaching resource. The research highlights the value of ethnomathematics in educational contexts, reinforcing the importance of incorporating cultural elements into mathematics learning.

Abstract

Mathematics plays a vital role in developing students’ cognitive and creative thinking skills. However, conventional learning approaches often fall short in stimulating students' mathematical creativity. This study investigates the effect of the open-ended learning model assisted by animation videos on students’ mathematical creative thinking ability. Using a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach, the study involved an experimental class taught with open-ended learning and animation videos and a control class with conventional instruction. Results showed that the experimental class outperformed in generating original, flexible, and diverse mathematical ideas. This indicates that integrating open-ended learning with visual animation support positively influences students’ creative mathematical thinking.
