Abstract

Abstract One aim of this article is to show through a concrete example how speech function and speech role used in movie. The illustrative example is taken from the dialogue of  Up movie. Central to the analysis proper form of dialogue on Up movie that contain of speech function and speech role; i.e. statement, offer, question, command, giving, and demanding. 269 dialogue were interpreted by actor, and it was found that the use of speech function and speech role.   Keywords: movie; speech function; speech role

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research deals with the analysis of illocutionary act on Alex’s dialogue in movie Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. The objectives of the study are to find types of illocutionary act, the most dominant type, and the reason why the most dominant type occurs. The research on this thesis was carried out on descriptive qualitative design. The sources of data were derived from the script of Alex’s dialogue. The data were analyzed based on Yule’s theory and they were classified into five types namely; representative, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative. The most dominant type of illocutionary act used there is representative. The total percentage is: representative 42.90%, directive 38.26%, commissive 3.19%, expressive 12.75%, and declarative 2.90%. Representative becomes the most dominant type because there are many elements of representative used such as arguing, asserting, denying, informing and describing. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research focuses on metaphor used in Nightwish`s Dark Passion Play album. The research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data are collected from the song lyrics in Nightwish`s Dark Passion Play album. The findings of the study show that there are 83 occurrences of eight types of metaphor. They are active metaphor (8), inactive metaphor (3), subjective metaphor (3), mimetic metaphor (17), phenomenalistic metaphor (4), precision metaphor (7), symbolism metaphor (18), and approximate metaphor (23). The most dominant type used in Nightwish`s Dark Passion Play album is approximate metaphor (27,71%). It means that the point of this album is a description of the idealism of the band about life. Approximate metaphor is a kind metaphor that has no clear ground and topic, it create smany interpretations from reader and hearer and made this album never stopped being discussed. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with the types of deixis in Raja Campur Sari of Didi Kempot’s Song. The objective of this study are to describe the types of deixis that are used in Raja Campur Sari of Didi Kempot’s song, finding out the dominant types, and finding out why the type of deixis is dominantly used in Raja Campur Sari of Didid Kempot’s Song. This study applied descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were taken from VCD of Raja Campur Sari of Didi Kempot’s song. There were 10 song lyrics taken as the samples. The findings of this study show that there are five types of deixis were found in Raja Campur Sari of Didi Kempot’s song, there are person deixis 33.7%, spatial deixis 16.6%, temporal deixis 16.4%, discourse deixis 20.3% and social deixis 13%. The most dominant type of deixis found is person deixis. Person deixis is dominantly used because hemostly wrote her own experiences into the song lyrics. Keyword: Pragmatics, Deixis, Song
