Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Iodine deficiency disorder (IDD) is one of health problems in Indonesia that has major impact on survival and quality of human resources. Iodine is an essential component of thyroid hormone, meanwhile thyroid hormone has an important role in reproductive function. Nutritional anemia is also a nutrition problem in Indonesia. Thyroid hormone deficiency may cause disorder in hemoglobin synthesis due to lack of thyroxine hormone and the incidence of intestine failure to absorb Fe. In hypothyroid condition, the amount of gastric acid secretion will decrease that disrupts absorption of nutrients, including Fe.Objectives: To identify association between goitre status and menstruation pattern and the incidence of anemia in legible women at IDD endemic area of Kenagarian Siguntur Subdistrict of Sitiung District of Dharmasraya Province of Sumatera Barat. Methods: The study was observational with cross sectional design that was carried out at Kenagarian Siguntur Subdistrict of Sitiung District of Tanah Datar. Subject of the study were 154 legible women with inclusion criteria 20-40 years old and willing to become respondent and have blood examination. Samples were taken using simple random sampling method. Data analysis used chi-square and logistic regression. Results: The result of data analysis showed that some respondents had goitre (29.9%), menstruation problem (35.1%), and were anemic (37.0%). The result of statistical analysis showed that there was association between goitre status and menstruation pattern (OR: 6.562, 95% CI: 3.076-13.99, p<0.005) and anemia (OR: 3.229, 95% CI: 1.577-6.612, p<0.005).Conclusions: Goitre status had significant association with menstruation pattern and the incidence of anemia.KEYWORDS: iodine deficiency disorder (IDD), menstruation pattern, anemiaABSTRAKLatar belakang: Gangguan akibat kekurangan yodium (GAKY) di Indonesia merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan.

Abstract

Stunting is a problem of malnutrition that is still experienced by toddlers in Indonesia. According to the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Study (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting in Bangka Belitung Province is highest in South Bangka Regency, which is 23%. One of the causes is the lack of knowledge and behavior of mothers in preventing stunting. The purpose of this study is to describe the knowledge and behavior of mothers in preventing stunting in toddlers in Serdang Village, South Bangka Regency. This research method uses a quantitative method with a descriptive research design which was carried out in April 2024 in the Serdang Village Area. This study involved 35 mothers who have toddlers aged 3-5 years who were selected using simple random sampling. The results of the study showed that the average age of toddlers aged 4 years was 66.9% with the most gender being female. Mothers of toddlers aged 21-64 years were 97.1% with a good knowledge category of 97.1%. All mothers have good knowledge regarding the characteristics of stunting in children with a percentage of 100%, but 40% of mothers do not know the category of healthy children assessed from their height with their age. As many as 88.6% of mothers have good behavior in preventing stunting by getting used to washing their hands before feeding their children. However, 31.4% of mothers never seek information about stunting. The conclusion of the study is that mothers' knowledge and behavior in preventing stunting are in the good category.

Abstract

The reduction in wasting prevalence in Pangkalpinang City from 5.1% in 2021 to 4.9% in 2022 was statistically insignificant, reflecting a marginal decline of only 0.2%, still near the threshold.Pangkal Balam Health Center allocated the highest budget to serve 59 undernourished children under five. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of a nutrition education model using the "Karamunting Genzi" Parenting Monitoring Card, an educational and self-assessment tool designed to support mothers and caregivers in planning and evaluating age-appropriate feeding practices. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents consist of 44 mothers/caregivers of U-5 children undernourished and receiving locally based supplementary feeding (PMT). The interventions consisted of cadre training, home visits, and using the Karamunting Genzi Monitoring Card as a monitoring tool. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using  Spearman's rank tests. The intervention engaged 10 community health (Posyandu) cadres to support 44 participating mothers across five urban villages, focusing on improving feeding knowledge and practices. Post-intervention assessments showed significant improvements in maternal knowledge (mean score increased from 65.9 to 67.6) and feeding practices (94.1 to 96.2). Spearman's rank test showed a strong relationship between pre- and post-intervention knowledge scores (rs = 0.775) and parenting practices (rs = 0.766). This study recommends replicating intervention in other areas, conducting long-term behavioral monitoring, developing more interactive educational media, and integrating the tool into broader nutrition programs through collaboration with the government and relevant stakeholders to address childhood malnutrition effectively.
