Abstract

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world and is one of the biggest causes of cancer deaths every year. Measurement of the quality of life in breast cancer patients could improve treatment and become a prognosic factor along with medical parameters for the patients. This study aims to measure the life quality of breast cancer patients and observe how it affects the life quality based on patient characteristics. The study was conducted on 93 breast cancer patients. Data were collected form patients in several breast cancer comunities in Denpasar which were carried outh within 3 months (January – March 2019). This study used a cross sectional design using a snowball sampling technique involving breast cancer patients in several cancer communities in Denpasar. The patient's life quality data was obtained using the EuroQol-5 Dimension-5 Level (EQ-5D-5L) generic instrument and conversion to health utility (utility) used the Indonesian value set. The entire data was analyzed using the independent t-test and multivariate regression. The results showed that pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression were the most dominant problem in breast cancer patients (82,7%). The utility value of breast cancer patients was 0.821±0.123 and the VAS value was 74.41±11.67. There was a significant difference in utility value based on patient characteristics of occupation (p=0.035), symptoms (p=0,003), and cancer stadium (p=0.015). Affected 20.5% of the quality of life of breast cancer patients in Denpasar city.

Abstract

Background: The pediatric cancer was reported that they got worst pain and 40% weren’t managed well. The impact of untreated cancer pain is low quality of life and poor pain experienced. Therefore, it is important to know the best analgesic for improving the clinical outcome of pain.Objectives: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using opioid combined with adjuvant analgesics based on WHO analgesic ladder in pediatric cancer pain.Methods: PubMed and Science Direct were searched for randomized controlled trials and retrospective studies by the keyword’s “opioid”, “adjuvant analgesic”, “pediatric”, “cancer” within 2014-2024. The primary outcome was using Faces Pain Scale, or visual analog scale (VAS), or numerical rating scale (NRS).Results: A result of 556 studies were reviewed. After further inspection of collected studies, only 5 studies achieved all inclusion criteria. The final studies consist of two prospective studies with randomized trial and three retrospective studies. Combination gabapentin or pregabalin as adjuvant analgesic with opioids was better reduced pain intensity and less adverse events than other combinations.Conclusion: This study supports the increased effectiveness of analgesic opioid combined with adjuvant analgesics, compared with single opioid, in the treatment of pediatric cancer pain. Further study inspires researchers to conduct studies using the randomized trial method and continue meta-analysis study especially in pediatric population and developing countries.

Abstract

Background: Efficient drug inventory management in hospitals is crucial for ensuring the availability of necessary medications while avoiding excessive costs and storage challenges. In developing countries, pharmaceuticals account for 40–50% of total hospital expenditures, highlighting the importance of inventory control. The Minimum-Maximum Stock Level (MMSL) method is a straightforward approach to managing hospital drug inventory that prevents overstocking and causes reorders to avoid shortages.Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the impact of the MMSL method on drug inventory control efficiency in hospitals in Indonesia.Methods: This systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA Statement guidelines. Articles were identified from PubMed, Scopus, Garuda, and Google Scholar databases. Studies conducted in hospitals in Indonesia that evaluated the implementation of the MMSL and reported efficiency indicators such as inventory value, Inventory Turnover Ratio (ITOR), stockout, and dead stock were included. The methodological quality of the selected studies was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tools.Results: A total of seven reviewed articles showed that the MMSL method positively influenced the efficiency of drug inventory control in hospitals, as evidenced by reductions in drug inventory values, increases in ITOR, decreases in stockout frequency and value, and a reduction in dead stock. In another study, ITOR decreased at a government hospital, although it remained within the ideal value range.Conclusion: The MMSL method enhances the efficiency of drug inventory management and can be implemented in hospitals in Indonesia.
