Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of language within President Jokowi's Game of Thrones speech in opening Annual Meetings IMF-World Bank Group. The research method is descriptive qualitative. Data and sources data in the form of speech transcript published in TribunJabar.id. The results of the analysis showed that overall using official language style, mixed codes, medium language, high pitch, anaphoric reps, mesodiplosis reps, long analogies, rhetorical questions, hyperbole, metaphors, fresh humor, antithesis, and climax in closing. In substance and packaging, President Jokowi's speech was so good. The speech was able to amaze the audience. The listeners of the speech will understand better if they also master the Game of Trones reference series. Further research on the language style of President Jokowi's speech in different forums will reveal different language styles according to the forum that was delivered. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penggunaan gaya bahasa dalam pidato Presiden Jokowi Game of Thrones saat pembukaan Annual Meetings IMF-World Bank Group. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Data dan sumber data berupa transkrip pidato yang dimuat di Tribun Jabar.id. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhan menggunakan gaya bahasa resmi, campur kode, bahasa menengah, nada suara tinggi, repetisi anafora, repetisi mesodiplosis, analogi yang panjang, pertanyaan retoris, hiperbol, metafora, humor-humor segar, antitesis, dan klimaks sebagai penutup.  Secara substansi dan kemasan, pidato Presiden Jokowi begitu baik. Pidato tersebut mampu memukau hadirin. Bagi pendengar pidato tersebut akan lebih memahami apabila juga menguasai referensi serial Game of Trones. Penelitian lanjutan tentang gaya bahasa pidato Presiden Jokowi dalam forum yang berbeda akan mengungkapkan gaya bahasa yang berbeda sesuai dengan forum yang disampaikan.

Abstract

The proverb of Melayu Kutai language is the manifestation of the nature and natural characteristics in Kutai people's homes in Kutai Regency. The proverb is used as a form of satire that contains advices for its speakers. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that examines metaphors and cultural values in Kutai Melayu proverb. In the proverb, there are metaphors referring to animals and cultural values representing the working mentality, attitudes, perceptions, behaviors, ethics, and morals. It shows about the use of language metaphorically as an expression that contains the values of culture that has long existed in Kutai community.
