Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical problem solving ability of eighth grade students at MTs al-Munawarah using the Polya procedure on the material of two-variable linear equation systems. Data collected through problem solving ability tests and interviews. Indicators of problem solving ability based on Polya include; understanding the problem, planning problem solving, implementing the solution and rechecking. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The data analysis used is descriptive statistics. The results of the analysis show that subjects with high ability are able to fulfill the Polya procedure indicators well and show significant improvement. Furthermore, subjects with moderate ability are only able to fulfill three indicators in the Polya procedure, namely the fourth indicator is rechecking the subject does not recheck the answers that have been completed. While low ability subjects can only fulfill one indicator, namely the subject is able to understand the problem in the question, but low ability subjects still have difficulty in compiling and implementing problem solving and do not recheck the answers.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of designing integral calculus teaching materials assisted by the Maple application is to create materials that use mathematical applications to help users solve problems related to integral calculus. The 4D development model consists of several stages, with the first stage being the definition stage. This stage involves beginning-to-end analysis, student-related analysis, concept-related analysis, task-related analysis, and specifications related to learning objectives, all of which are based on the curriculum. The design stage of the 4-D development model involves creating a teaching material template, followed by designing Maple-assisted integral calculus teaching material. The teaching material template includes learning objectives for each integral calculus material/content. The material/content is presented concisely, with example questions and their solutions, example questions and their solutions using Maple, and final evaluation questions. The teaching materials consist of typing drafts and Maple videos, which are used to create a final draft consisting of 22 sub-materials/content related to integral calculus. This video contains an audiovisual tutorial explaining how to solve problems using the Maple application. As a result of this activity, 20 Maple videos were produced, each of which demonstrates how to solve problems related to integral calculus material/content

Abstract

This research aims to test the effectiveness of cognitive style on students' mathematics learning difficulties at the Jambi City Laboratory Madrasah Aliyah and obtain the results of an analysis of mathematics learning difficulties in terms of cognitive style. This research is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach. This research was conducted at the Madrasah Aliyah Laboratory in Jambi. The research subjects were 24 students in class XI Science 1 Madrasah Aliyah Laboratory Jambi City. Data collection techniques used the GEFT test (Group Embedded Figure Test), interviews, and observation. The results of this research are (1) Students with a field dependent cognitive style are 14 subjects out of 24 students who tend to have difficulty breaking down complex information into simpler parts and experience obstacles in determining problem solutions independently, (2) Students with a field independent cognitive style are 10 subjects out of 24 students who have better abilities in understanding, planning and solving problems compared to field dependent students. Apart from that, they also tend to think analytically until they get the right results. (3) The results of interviews with students indicate that students with a field independent cognitive style tend to be superior in identifying hidden patterns and solving problems based on visual analysis, while students with a field dependent cognitive style need more contextual learning strategies and clearer visualization assistance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of teaching materials in the form of student worksheets assisted by grattage techniques in the context of local culture using bar chart material. This study uses a research and development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection techniques in this study include documentation, questionnaires, observation, and interviews. The validity test results obtained 96.7% for the “very valid” category of material, 96% for the “very valid” category of language, and 98.1% for the “very valid” category of media. The practicality test results were 96.7% in the “very practical” category by educators, 89.7% in the “very practical” category by small group students, and 84.3% in the “very practical” category by large class students. The results of the effectiveness test showed that all students in the small group achieved the Minimum Passing Grade (MPG) of 6 people, while in the large class, 14 people (70%) achieved the MPG and 6 people (30%) did not achieve the MPG. The results of the effectiveness questionnaire for small group students obtained 89.4% and large group students obtained 83.3% in the “very effective” category. It can be concluded that these mathematics worksheets are valid, practical, and effective for use in mathematics learning.
