Abstract

Abstract— Processing of natural fibers as a support material for composite materials has been widely carried out. Some studies use chemicals as a medium for processing fiber while the treatment with natural ingredients has not been done much. This study discusses the ability of the matrix to penetrate the coconut fiber. Coconut fiber that has been cleaned soaked in a solution of limestone water. Immersion is done with a variation of the lime mass percentage of 0; 2.5; 5; 7.5; 10% with 8 hours soaking time. The matrix used is unsaturated polyester yucalac 157 BQTN-EX. Wettability testing by dripping a matrix on coconut fiber. Coconut coir fibers that have been dripped with a matrix in the photo to determine the contact angle. The results of measurements and observations that with variations in mass percentage of 5% limestone with an immersion time of 8 hours have a contact angle of 11O˂Φ˂31O. Immersion with a percentage of 2.5% shows the surface of the fiber has not changed. Immersion of 7.5% and 10% of the surface of the fiber has been damaged, so the matrix can not absorb the coconut fiber to the maximum. Keywords—: coconut fiber; limestone water; contact angle; wettability; SEM.

Abstract

Abstract— The use of biomass from mahogany wood waste briquettes as a substitute fuel for oil and gas requires briquette technology. Mahogany wood briquette is able to convert into fuel with a fairly good conversion efficiency, high density and ease of storage and distribution. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pressure variations on the density, moisture content and rate of burning of mahogany wood waste briquettes. The process of making charcoal biobriquettes begins with the carbonization process with a temperature of 400 ̊C, then smoothed and sieved with a size of 80 mesh - 100 to get the same size, and using tapioca adhesive 30% of the weight of the mixture. The mixture is put into a molding machine and then printed with a pressure of 80 kg/cm2, 115 kg/cm2, 150 kg/cm2, and 185 kg/cm2. Charcoal biobriquettes are dried in an oven at 105 ̊C for 1 hour. In this research, the mass density and moisture content of the mahogany wood waste met the Indonesian biobriquette standards, the results of this study obtained the higher density of 0,55 g/cm3at a pressure of 150 kg/cm2. The results lowest water content of 47,2% at a pressure of 185 kg/cm2. The lowest combustion rate is 0,257 g/min at a pressure of 185 kg/cm2. Keywords—: mahoni wood waste; pressure; moisture content; combustion rate.

Abstract

Abstract— The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the composition of the material using the wlingi fiber fraction with polyester resin on tensile strength. The materials used in this study were Wlingi fiber and BQTN polyester resin. Making was done by hand lay up process. After reaching the desired holding time, the mold is put into the oven and processed and the specimen is removed from the mold. After obtaining four specimens of wlingi fiber variations, the tensile strength testing process was carried out according to ASTM 638. The results of this test indicate that the composition of the material with a wlingi fiber weight fraction of 40% Tensile strength of 118.76 MPa, a strain of 1.32 mm / mm, and a modulus of elasticity of 12355 MPa. Keywords—: tensile strength; wlingi fiber; BQTN resin.

Abstract

One alternative energy that can be developed is hydrogen. To obtain hydrogen gas by decomposing water compounds (H2O) into hydrogen hydrogen oxygen gas (HHO) through electrolysis. The solution used in this electrolysis process uses sodium chloride (NaCl) with electric current energy. In this research, a dry cell type HHO generator was used, the electrode used was a type 304 stainless steel plate with a catalyst percentage (NaCl) of 8%, 10%, 12%, 14% and 16%. The aim of this research is to determine the hydrogen content in a solution of vinegar and sugar water which can be used as an alternative fuel. This research produced the highest hydrogen volume at a percentage of 16% of 367 mL at the highest temperature of 547 C, the lowest 317 C and the lowest hydrogen volume of 198 mL. The highest flame height is 5.72 cm and flame width is 2.98 cm and the highest flame brightness level (Red Green Blue) is 16 RGB and the lowest brightness level is 2 RGB.

Abstract

The use of natural fibers as alternative materials continues to attract attention because they are environmentally friendly, economical, and readily available. Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) is one natural fiber with potential for such applications. This study investigated the effect of different immersion times in potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution on the tensile properties of single elephant grass fibers. We used an experimental method with 10% KOH alkaline treatment and immersion times of 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours. Tensile testing was conducted using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) to determine tensile stress, strain, and elastic modulus. The results showed that immersion time affected the mechanical properties of the fibers. The highest tensile stress, strain, and elastic modulus were obtained after 8 hours of immersion, reaching 8868.11 MPa, 14%, and 63523 MPa, respectively the alkaline treatment removed impurities from the fiber surface, improving its ability to withstand tensile loading. Therefore, 8 hours of immersion in 10% KOH provided the optimum result and demonstrated the potential of elephant grass fiber as reinforcement for environmentally friendly composites.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in luffa (Luffa acutangula) fiber length on the tensile properties of Polyester resin matrix composites. The composites were made by hand lay-up using a volume fraction of 90% resin and 10% fiber, with fiber lengths of 5 mm, 7 mm, 9 mm, and 11 mm, and tested using a UTM according to ASTM D638. The results showed fluctuating mechanical properties, with the highest tensile strength and maximum stress at 9 mm (0.816 kN and 20.31 MPa) and the lowest at 7 mm (0.681 kN and 17.27 MPa). The highest strain occurred at 9 mm (0.019) and the lowest at 5 mm and 7 mm (0.015), while the highest modulus of elasticity was at 5 mm (1387.610 MPa) and the lowest at 11 mm (970.5158 MPa). Overall, a fiber length of 9 mm is the optimum condition because it produces the best balance between strength and deformation.
