Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, the acoustic signal within an audio sonic range emitted by partial discharge (PD) in an oil-filled cylindrical tank was investigated. The PD was generated by point-to-flat electrodes subjected to a high-voltage DC. The PD source location, installation method, and sensor microphone, as well as the electrode gap distance, were varied. Subsequently, acoustic waveforms and their frequency spectrum, as well as the PD current, were analyzed. The results showed that transient acoustic signals indicated the emergence of PD. The acoustic sensor attached to the outer wall of the tank (contact type) was more sensitive than the sensor that had a distance from the tank (non-contact type). Sensor contact type acoustic signals placed parallel to the location of the PD source provided a more accurate signal form compared to those set nonparallel to the frequency spectrum, which was relatively flat. A closer electrode distance caused the duration, acoustic signal amplitude as well as the currents to be more considerable. For the identical variable, the acoustic signal form was not related to the current signal despite the same signal duration. Besides, locations of sources of the PD notably influenced the signal form, but it did not apply for the current signal. Keywords: acoustic, audio frequency, fast Fourier transform, high-frequency current transformer, oil transformer, partial discharge

Abstract

Three-phase induction motor is a motor type which is most often encountered in the household and in industry. This is due to the cheap price, easy maintenance and long age. One way to change the speed of three phase induction motor is by changing the number of poles. This research was conducted to determine the characteristic of three-phase induction motor when a change is done either by number of poles loaded and no-load.Characteristics of the motor which want to know are the rotor speed, slip, flow, power, and power factor when th number of stator poles varied. The study was conducted by modifying the number of poles three-phase induction motor squirrel cage. Motor induction of the results of modification has a the number of poles which can be changed so that the motor induction have the the number of poles 2, 4, 8 or 16. Characteristics of induction motor testing is done by changing the number of poles, and then the measurement is done on the velocity of the rotor speed, slip, flow, power, and power factor when th number of stator poles varied. The results showed that three-phase induction motor speed can be varied by changing the number of poles, but their work is less satisfactory in performance as demonstated by large slip of the induction motor, especially with 2 poles, 4 poles and 8 poles.

Abstract

Abstract— This research was based on high voltage equipment failure due to an increase in temperature and humidity on insulating materials. This can cause the power system reliability to decrease. On the other hand, paper is frequently found and used in everyday life. Paper can be categorized as a solid insulator even tough its use in the electric power system can be considered as minimum. This paper aimed to determine electrical insulation characteristics of three types of paper on market and to determine the amount of failed voltage and leakage current of test materials included with other factors such as temperature rise effect as well as humidity conditions in sample testing. The employed test samples were photo paper, duplex paper, and samson craft paper with a length of 7 cm and width of 7 cm with different thickness for each paper type. Tests were carried out with two paper conditions, i.e. paper was soaked in Shell Diala B oil and was not soaked in Shell Diala B oil, so that the significance of the oil on the paper used as an ingredient in testing could be known. The test results showed that temperature and humidity affected dielectric strength magnitude and test sample leakage current value. In addition, it was also found that test sample result impregnated with Shell Diala B had a higher dielectric magnitude compared to the unimpregnated test sample. Test samples impregnated with Shell Diala B oil had a leakage current value which tended to be smaller than the unimpregnated test sample.
