Abstract

This research aims to find out the composition of the coral and benthic organisms at Tiaka Oilfield. This study was conducted in July 2015. Monitoring of coral and benthic organisms used line intercept transect and visual census method. The research results indicated that 16 coral species were consisting of 6 genera. Coral species dominated by the genus Acropora. Benthic organisms that live in symbiosis with coral reef ecosystems in the Tiaka Oil Field were found 11 benthic species consisting of 54 species

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keberhasilan transplantasi karang di Lapangan MinyakTiaka. Keberhasilan transplantasi dinilai dari perkembangan fragmen karang melalui sintasan danpertumbuhan karang. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni 2015 – April 2016, di perairanLapangan Minyak Tiaka, Teluk Tolo, Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah. Jumlah fragmen karang yangdigunakan pada penelitian ini sebanyak 1600 pieces. Prosedur kerja transplantasi karang dimulaidari pembuatan tatakan, pemilihan bibit karang, fragmentasi, dan perawatan. Karang yangdigunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu karang jenis family Acrophoridae, (1) Acropora formasa; (2)A. nobilis; (3) A. grandis: (4) A. nasuta. Media transplantasi ditata pada lokasi transplantasidengan kedalaman 5-7 m di bawah permukaan laut saat surut terendah. Hasil penelitian inimenunjukkan pertumbuhan optimum anakan karang hasil transplantasi mencapai 33 cm, terutamajenis karang Acropora formosa dan A. nobilis. Sebesar 61,94% koloni telah mencapai ukuran 25-33 cm, 31,06% berukuran 20-25 cm, 6,43% berukuran 15-20 cm; dan 0,56% berukuran 10 cm.Kisaran nilai sintasan fragmen karang tergolong tinggi dengan nilai 97 – 99,44 %. Sintasan yangtinggi ditemukan pada monitoring terakhir sedangkan terendah pada monitoring kedua. Kondisiperairan sangat optimum untuk mendukung perkembangan dan pertumbuhan terumbu karang.Kata kunci: transplantasi karang, pertumbuhan, sintasan, lapangan minyak Tiaka

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan ekstrak temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) pada pakan komersil terhadap pertumbuhan dan sintasan benih ikan nila (Oreochromis niloticus). Organisme uji yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu benih ikan nila dengan bobot rata-rata 1,55 gram sebanyak 200 ekor yang diperoleh dari Balai Benih Ikan Tulo, Kecamatan Dolo, Kabupaten Sigi. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari empat perlakuan dengan lima ulangan. Perlakuan A: tanpa penambahan ekstrak temulawak; Perlakuan B: penambahan ekstrak temulawak 4 g/kg pakan; Perlakuan C: penambahan ekstrak temulawak 8 g/kg pakan; dan Perlakuan D: penambahan ekstrak temulawak 12 g/kg pakan. Ekstrak temulawak yang telah siap kemudian dimasukan kedalam botol semprotan sesuai dosis yang telah ditentukan. Biomassa dan bobot organisme uji ditimbang pada awal dan akhir pemeliharaan. Pengukuran kualitas air meliputi suhu, pH, oksigen terlarut, dan amonia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan berpengaruh nyata (p<0,05) terhadap bobot mutlak benih ikan nila. Persentase bobot mutlak dan sintasan pada benih ikan nila tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan D, masing-masing sebesar 1,423 g dan 94%.

Abstract

Human activities are believed to have caused significant damage to ecosystems. In fact, a healthy ecosystem must always be maintained so that it can continue to provide its services to humanity. The research aims to assess the health of the coastal ecosystem in Palu Bay, Central Sulawesi. Ecosystem health is measured by establishing an ecosystem health index (EHI) using McKinnon's framework for environmental health. The indicators set to measure the EHI are, first, the habitat (coastal water connectivity, mangrove forest stand condition, and pollution/clarity). Second, the biological resources/species (catch diversity and catch quantity). Third, the socio-economic conditions (fishermen's income and willingness to participate in coastal ecosystem management). Overall, the obtained EHI value is 0.47. The index falls into the moderate category. However, three indicators fall into the poor category, i.e., pollution, mangrove forests, and fishermen's income. To improve this health index, long-term efforts are needed, including, first, maintaining the integrity of the coast by reducing physical development; second, raising environmental awareness about cleanliness; third, implementing rules for the use of fishing gear and environmentally friendly fishing methods; and fourth, strengthening environmental awareness among the society.

Abstract

Research on coral reef biodiversity within oil and gas operational areas remains limited, as most previous studies have focused on coastal ecosystems adjacent to urban environments. This study aims to assess coral reef condition and reef fish community structure in the Senoro–Toili Block, and to examine the relationship between coral cover and reef fish abundance. Field data were collected using Manta Tow and Line Intercept Transect (LIT) methods for coral reef conditions, while reef fish data were obtained through the Underwater Visual Census (UVC) method. Coral reef observations included percentages of live hard coral, dead coral, algae, and abiotic substrates. Fish data comprised species composition and abundance, which were analyzed at the family level. The relationship between reef fish abundance and live coral cover was tested using Pearson correlation analysis. The study results indicated that dead corals dominated the Senoro-Toili Block coral community, ranging from 17.62 to 52.68%. Evaluation of coral reef conditions shows moderate to high levels of damage, with a high mortality index, indicating that reef health is significantly compromised and may negatively impact associated reef fish populations. The reef fish community comprises 195 species across 37 families. The abundance of reef fish ranges from 1605 to 3105 individuals/500 m². The Pearson correlation showed a significant association between reef fish abundance and coral cover (p < 0.05). The diversity index was high, and the evenness index indicated a stable fish community. A low dominance index supported this. These conditions indicate that the reef fish community in the Senoro–Toili Block exhibits relatively high ecological resilience in response to both natural and anthropogenic disturbances. These results highlight the need for continuous management interventions, especially coral transplantation initiatives implemented in the study region.

Abstract

The Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni Koumans, 1933) is a conservation priority species in Indonesia. To date there has been no effort to rear Banggai cardinalfish on a commercial scale, so that fish are still mainly captured from the wild. Therefore, efforts are being made to develop ex-situ Banggai cardinalfish culture using different types of natural feed. This research aimed to determine the best type of natural feed to promote the growth and survival of juvenile Banggai cardinalfish. The research was conducted during December 2021-January 2022, at the Central Sulawesi Provincial Marine Affairs and Fisheries Service Hatchery, in Mamboro Village, Palu City. The study used 3 treatments with 6 replicates each: A (Artemia), B (Cullex), and C (Tubifex). The use of different natural feeds had a significant effect on net weight gain but did not have a significant effect on daily growth rate and net growth in length. Treatment B (Cullex) gave the highest net weight gain and daily growth rate of 0.08 ± 0.3 g and 0.25 ± 0.1 % respectively; treatment A (Artemia) gave the highest net growth in length of 0.5 ± 0.2; and survival rate was highest (100%) under treatment B (Cullex).
