Abstract

This writing is aimed to discuss about Indonesian history that is described and interpreted by Suparto Brata in his novels, written in Indonesian and Javanese, mainly Sala Lelimengan (1965), Surabaya Tumpah Darahku (1978), November Merah (1984), Kremil (2002), Saksi Mata (2002), Donyane Wong Culika (2004), Gadis Tangsi (2004), Mencari Sarang Angin (2005), Kerajaan Raminem (2005), Dom Sumurup ing Banyu (2006), and Mahligai di Ufuk Timur (2007). The course of Indonesian history in the novels ranges from Dutch colonialism era up to new sociopolitical order era. If the formal history records famous person only (usually men only), the history of Suparto Brata’s version presents the role and struggle of people from various social class, profession, gender, age, and the victims of Indonesian regime all with its humanistic perspective. Indonesian history is interpreted as the struggle against stupidity and betrayal of people who didn’t learn from the past. The choice of using historical subject can be read and interpreted as an effort of the writer to question and ask readers to understand and appreciate the history of their nation as a meaningful thing, a valuable lesson for a better future.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan hubungan Suparto Brata dengan cerita detektif tradisional Barat dan mendeskripsikan pengaruh cerita detektif tradisional Barat terhadap novelnya yang berjudul Kremil dan Mencari Sarang Angin. Kajian ini termasuk ke dalam studi sastra bandingan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan bahwa Suparto Brata merupakan pembaca cerita-cerita detektif tradisional Barat. Pengaruh bacaan tersebut terhadap novel Kremil dan Mencari Sarang Angin yang ditulisnya teridentifikasi dari fakta cerita berupa alur (yang terdiri atas tiga bagian: kejahatan, pelacakan, dan pembongkaran misteri), penokohan (penjahat, korban, pelacak, dan tokoh lainnya), dan latar terisolasi. Akan tetapi, dalam beberapa hal, novel Kremil dan Mencari Sarang Angin menunjukkan penyimpangan atau modifikasi dari cerita detektif tradisional Barat.Abstract:This study focuses on describing the relationship between Suparto Brata as a writer and western traditional detective stories. It also examines their influence on his works: “Kremil” and “Mencari Sarang Angin”. The research is under comparative literary study. The result of the re- search shows that Suparto Brata is the western detective stories reader. Their influence on his works, “Kremil” and “Mencari Sarang Angin”, can be identified from their plot, character, and isolated setting. Firstly, the plot is divided into three parts: criminality, tracing the story, and un- covering the mystery. Secondly,  the characters consist of criminal, victim, and other characters. In some cases, however, “Kremil” and “Mencari Sarang Angin” indicate the deviation or modification of the western traditional detective stories.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bentuk dan perubahan resepsi pembaca terhadap Tjerita Njai Dasima dengan teori resepsi sastra dan metode resepsi diakronis. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan bahwa sejak era kolonial hingga era reformasi Tjerita Njai Dasima telah mendapat tanggapan berupa karya-karya baru dalam bentuk puisi, prosa, teks drama, skenario film, film, sinetron, dan drama musikal. Perubahan resepsi terjadi dari generasi ke generasi seiring dengan perubahan zaman dan perubahan horison harapan pembacanya. Resepsi pada masa sebelum kemerdekaan menunjukkan ideologi prokolonial dan pada era awal kemerdekaan sebaliknya, antikolonial. Resepsi pembaca yang muncul di era Orde Baru berisi kritik sosial terhadap pembangunan dan di era reformasi memperlihatkan semangat pluralisme dan kebebasan.Abstract:This paper is aimed  at  describing the  form and the change reader reception  toward Tjerita Njai Dasima by using reception of literary theory and diachronic reception method. This research  revealed that since colonial period until reformation period, Tjerita Njai Dasima got appreciation  in the form of new literary works such as poem, prose, drama text, film scenario, film, series, and musical drama. The change of reception  can be seen  from generation to generation, together with the development  and reader ’s horizon  expectation. The reception before indepen- dence showed procolonial ideology. While,  in the early independence period tended to be  antico- lonial. Reader reception emerged  in the new era period showed  social critic toward development, while  in the reformation period was  in the form of  spirit of pluralism and freedom.

Abstract

Tulisan ini dilatarbelakangi fenomena dominannya kritik sosial dalam puisi-puisi berbahasa Jawa dialek Surabaya karya Budi Palopo dan Trinil tetapi penelitian tentangnya sangat langka.Penelitian yang ada baru dari aspek kebahasaannya. Oleh karena itu, masalah yang menjadi fokus tulisan ini adalah bagaimanakah kritik sosial dalam puisi-puisi Budi Palopo dan Trinil? Tujuannya mengungkap dan memaparkan kritik sosial yang ada dalam puisi-puisi Budi Palopo dan Trinil denganperspektif teori sosiologi sastra. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kritik sosial dalam puisi-puisi Budi Palopo ditujukan pada moral masyarakat dan aparatur pemerintahan dalam berbagai lini di Indonesia, sedangkan kritik sosial dalam puisi-puisi Trinil ditujukan pada masyarakat dan aparatur pemerintah di wilayah Surabaya dan menyoroti persoalan-persoalan masyarakat Surabaya. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah meskipun ditulis dalam bahasa Jawa dialek Surabaya, persoalan yang diangkatbukan hanya persoalan yang ada di wilayah penutur dialek tersebut. Sastra memanglah bersifat unik sekaligus universal.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap dan memaparkan nasionalisme dalam cerpen-cerpen majalah Panjebar Semangat dan kontribusi majalah Panjebar Semangat dalam perkembangan nasionalisme di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan perspektif nasionalisme menurut Ben Anderson dan Kahin dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah majalah Panjebar Semangat tahun 1937?1940 dan terbitan perdana tanggal 2 September 1933. Pengumpulan data dilakukan di kantor redaksi majalah Panjebar Semangat, di Surabaya dengan metode dokumentasi yang ditopang dengan teknik baca, simak, dan catat. Analisis data diawali dengan interpretasi nasionalisme dalam teks cerpen dilanjutkan dengan membahas majalah Panjebar Semangat sebagai penerbit dan media publikasinya. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa cerpen-cerpen majalah Panjebar Semangat menokohkan pemuda-pemuda harapan bangsa yang aktif dalam pergerakan dan senantiasa rela berkorban demi kemerdekaan dan kemuliaan bangsa. Majalah Panjebar Semangat membawa semangat nasionalisme pada mayoritas rubriknya. Nasionalisme dalam majalah Panjebar Semangat menggambarkan nasionalisme kultural dan nasionalisme politis. Kata kunci: nasionalisme, Panjebar Semangat, nasionalisme kultural, nasionalisme politis Abstract This research aims to reveal and describe nationalism in the short stories of Panjebar Semangat magazine and the Panjebar Semangat magazine contribution to the development of nasionalism in Indonesia. This research uses the perspective of nationalism according to Ben Anderson and Kahin by using sociology of literature approach. The data source of this research was Panjebar Semangat magazine in 1937?1940 and it rst issued on September 2nd 1933. Data collection was done at Panjebar Semangat editor?s of ce in Surabaya by using documentation method supported by reading, listening and note taking techniques. Data analysis was started with interpreting nationalism in the short story texts and then discussed about Panjebar Semangat magazine as the publisher and publishing media. The results showed that the short stories in Panjebar Semangat magazine decisived young people, the hope of nation who active in the movement and always willing to sacri ce for the independence and glory of the nation. Panjebar Semangat magazine brought the spirit of nationalism to the majority of its rubrics. Nationalism in the Panjebar Semangat magazine illustrated cultural nationalism and political nationalism.Keywords: nationalism, Panjebar Semangat, cultural nationalism, political nationalism

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan peta komunitas sastra Indonesia di Jawa Timur dan melihat jaringan antarkomunitasnya dengan perspektif makro sastra. Berdasarkan latar belakang kelahirannya, komunitas sastra di Jawa Timur dapat dikelompokkan menjadi empat, yaitu komunitas yang lahir sebagai perlawanan terhadap hegemoni pusat, sebagai pernyataan ekspresi dan eksistensi diri, sebagai wadah kreativitas dan komunikasi, dan sebagai gerakan lite- rasi. Berdasarkan basisnya, komunitas sastra Indonesia di Jawa Timur dapat dikelompokkan menjadi tiga, yaitu komunitas berbasis kampus, nonkampus, dan pondok pesantren. Mereka membangun jaringan dengan komunitas di Jawa Timur dan di luar Jawa Timur Abstract: This paper is aimed to describe Indonesia literary community map in East Java and to see intercommunity networking with macroliterary perspective. Based on background of birth, literary community in East Java can be devided in to four grups: community that was born as resistance to hegemony of center, as statement they are expression and self existence; as creativity and communication media; and as literacy movement. Based on its basis, Indonesian literary community in East Java can be devided in to three groups, they are literary community based on campus, literary community based on noncampus, and literary community based on pondok pesantren. Abstract

The existence of military in a country does not automatically mean militarism. However, during the New Order era, militarism was used to dominate political life and became a power shield as an excuse to maintain national stability. The military practice could be seen, among other things in Indonesian literary works, particularly in Wiji Thukul's, Rendra's, Eka Budianta's, and K.H. A. Mustafa Bisri's writing as a reflection of his period. These poems depict military action in the New Order power such as in the land reform case, workers protest, and the 27th of July incident. Military action has become a violent pattern to silence these unpleasant incidents. Some critical activists experienced these violent actions such as terror, kidnapping, and torturing,

Abstract

Nyai Dasima story accurately reflects some problems deal with the politics of identity and the complexity of relation between colonized. The politics of identity strategy which is implemented by colonizers could be traced in literary works. Th. Manusama Njai Dasima that is written in colonial era reflects its strategy in the representation of pribumi or 'native' as a villainous and greedy character. Claiming for Islamic value, the native is portrayed as a bandit who greedily holds up the white's wealth. The natives are also depicted easily killing each other merely due to material goods. In order to influence the readers, colonizers strive to destroy the native reputation and Islamic value. As a part of colonialist, Th. Manusama, as a part of the colonizer, has an intention to enhance the hegemonic colonial power by represents that the natives voluntarily accept colonial power by represents that the natives voluntarily accept colonialism.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perempuan­?perempuan pengarang Jawa Timur, karya­?karyanya, dan citra perempuan yang tergambar di dalamnya dengan perspektif feminis. Sumber data tulisan ini adalah tujuh perempuan pengarang Jawa Timur dan karya­?karyanya. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi kepustakaan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan sebagai berikut. Perempuan pengarang Jawa Timur yang cukup produktif adalah Totilawati Tjitrawasita, Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim, Yati Setiawan, Sirikit Syah, Lan Fang, Zoya Herawati, dan Wina Bojonegoro. Karya­?karya Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim, Sirikit Syah, Wina Bojonegoro, Lan Fang, dan Yati Setiawan berada pada garis yang sama meskipun dalam spektrum yang berbeda dalam menghadirkan atau mencitrakan perempuan, yakni menampilkan perempuan yang berada di bawah bayang­?bayang laki­?laki. Citra perempuan yang tidak tergantung pada laki­?laki tampak pada karya­?karya Totilawati Tjitrawasita dan Zoya Herawati. Abstract: This study aims to describe the East Javanese woman writers, their works, and woman image using the feminist perspective. The sources of data are seven East Javanese woman writers and their works. The data was collected through librarian research. This study found the following findings. The East Javanese woman writers who are still productive are Totilawati Tjitrawasita, Etik Minarti, Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim, Yati Setiawan, Sirikit Syah, Lan Fang, and Wina Bojonegoro. Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim, Sirikit Syah, Wina Bojonegoro, Lan Fang, and Yati Setiawan are on the same way in presenting women who are under the shadow of men although in the different spectrum. The women positive image can be seen in the proses of Totilawati Tjitrawasita and Zoya Herawati. Key Words: woman writer; literary work; woman image; feminist

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan citra perempuan Jawa dalam cerita pendek ma­ jalah berbahasa Jawa dengan pendekatan feminis. Sumber data yang digunakan dipilih secara purposive, yaitu cerita pendek yang menokohkan perempuan dan membicarakan persoalan perempuan dalam majalah berbahasa Jawa Panjebar Semangat yang terbit setelah bergulirnya re­formasi tahun 1998. Pemilihan terbitan sejak tahun 1998 karena sejak itulah terjadi perubahan sosial budaya yang cukup signifikan di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan sebagai berikut. Majalah berbahasa Jawa Panjebar Semangat yang terbit di era reformasi menampilkan citra perempuan aktif, citra perempuan pelawan, citra perempuan materialis, citra perempuan korban, dan citra perempuan penggerak pembangunan. Abstract: The aim of this paper is to describe Javanese women image in the short story of Javanese magazines using feminist approach. The source of data used are purposively selected, those are short stories characterizing woman and discussing the woman issues in the Javanese magazine Panjebar Semangat published after the reformation in 1998. Publication since 1998 was selected because, in Indonesia, it was the period that the significant social­cultural change took place. The study found the following findings. Javanese magazine, Panjebar Semangat, published in the reformation era showed the image of active women, rebellion women, materialistic women, victim women, and the image of development mover.
