Abstract

The study in this the drama of The Bear by Anton Chekov. This drama depicts a widow and debt collector. The problem in the drama of The Bear is on personality and character changes. This research uses observation method with note-taking technique and uses interpretation in analyzing data. For this reason, the theory of Sigmund Freud's (Id, Ego, Super-ego) is used. From the results of this study the authors found the characters of Popova and Smirrnov, in which Smirnov was actually a kind, young, beautiful, and Popova who was kind, romantic but rude. The cause of the change in Popov's character is based on his loneliness and Smirnov is based on economic needs. In Psychology Smirnov's personality who wants money (Id) and Popov want to force himself to duel with Smirnov (Ego) regardless of people in the surrounding environment, especially Luka as a helper of Popov (Super-Ego) in their quarrels and unwittingly emerge a feeling of love between Popova and Smirnov and finally they fall in love.

Abstract

This research is focused on revealing the character that has an affair that appears in novel The Girl on the Train. The purpose of this study is to (1) To describe the cause of affair and betrayal in the story the Girl on the Train (2) To explain the affair and betrayal in the story the Girl on the Train (3) To reveals the murder investigation that expose the characters’ affair and betrayal in the story the Girl on the Train.This research analyzes about the main character, they are Rachel, Anna, Megan, and Tom. The theory used is psychology theory by Sigmund Freud which explains that the life of the human soul has three levels of consciousness namely; id, ego and superego. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method in which this research does not require statistical data to obtain reality or phenomena that occur in the community.The writer found that the protagonist character in this research was Rachel. In the beginning the story, Rachel is not like the protagonist in general, at the beginning of the character's story Rachel is an alcoholic, has severe depression because she has problems with her fertility so she cannot have children, unemployment, often lost consciousness (black out). But at the end of the story, Rachel's character changes where Rachel is involved in a murder case, when she realizes, she relentlessly tries to uncover the truth of Megan's murderous night, turning her into an unusual detective hunting for clues in her blurred memories. Finally facing the truth of her abusive marriage to Tom, she overcomes her emotional dependence, finally rejects victimization, and resumes control over her life, revealing herself to be the strongest female character in the novel. Despite her flaws, she is guided by a strong moral compass and empathy.

Abstract

This research is aimed at finding the suggestion forms of verbal hypnoterapist language and its nonverbal reaction to cigarette suffering (clients). In collecting data is used observation method and non-Participant observation technique followed by recording and note taking method. The data is collected at one of hypnoteraphy clinic in Padang. In analyzing the data, the writer uses referential and pragmatic identity method. To finding data clearly, valuable, and easy to read is used descriptive statistic in order to know client condition and how far verbal hypnotherapist can influent to the client. Data is served in the formal and informal method. Based on the analysis is concluded that, somnabulistic is an important section in giving hypnotherapy suggestion. Using word “belatung” to AM client, “tikus” to WW client, and “ular” to IR client have a different reaction to each client. Client AM in the 21-27 scale, is a good suggestion. He is a Physical Sugestible who has right hemisfer domain. Client WW is an Emotional Sugestible, in the 21-27 also but she has dificulty in the open eyes trance, she is a middle suggestion who has left hemisfer domain and client IR has Intelectual Sugestible, who has critical analysis, in the 28-35. Beside that suggestions must have given reapeatly short, clear and motivation understandable langguage. Suggestions are in the plural and active sentences which avoid in using words “dont”, “will”, “no”. Overall, cigarette suffering is a person who suffer from unconsious mind or psychomatis that can give negative effect to his healhty. Giving suggestion motivation sentences in hypnotherapy can hamper the critical factor of client and finally, can solve client suffer problems.

Abstract

This research contains the title "Code Switching in Sigapokna language changed by Minangkabau people in Sigapokna" viewed from a structuralism perspective, this research discusses language contact occurring in bilingual or multilingual communities, because in this society it uses more than one language. The occurrence of language code switching in Sigapokna is due to the mixing of two languages ​​between the Sigapokna language and the Minangkabau language, native speakers of the Minangkabau people who settled in Sigapokna. Limited to some basic ideas related to observation into three questions as follows: (1) What is the form of code switching in the Sigapokna language, (2) What is the Sigapokna matrix in Minangkabau speakers, (3) What are the causes of code switching in the Sigapokna language. used is from Nababan about sociolinguistics used to answer the purpose of this research. For data analysis methods, the research used is a qualitative and quantitative approach. This approach emphasizes the meaning and understanding of the mind, reasoning, definitions of certain situations (in some contexts), more to examine matters relating to daily life such as the culture of an area. The purpose of research is usually related to practical matters. Data analysis is also a process of simplifying data into forms that are easier to read and interpret to look for broader meanings and implications from the results of research over language codes in Sigapokna. Data collection techniques in this research, to get the data and information needed, researchers used literature research techniques. In literature studies, researchers use techniques that are played with interviews and record data, materials, or references related to the problem and purpose of the research. Using library research techniques in finding data relevant to the subject of analysis. From the data collected amounted to 563. Data in the Minangkabau language form was mixed with 280 and the language while in the Sigapokna language form was 283. From the collection, the matrix language was 280/283×100% of the Minangkabau language. Sigapokna language is mixed with Minangkabau 283 so, it can be concluded that the mixed Sigapokna language is 283/280 × 100%. The occurrence of language contacts or code switching depends on the location or where someone lives. If someone is in an area with different languages ​​and cultures, there will automatically be a code transfer between the speaker, the speech partner and the speech partner in order to avoid a misunderstanding. From the conclusion of the code switching data above, native Minangkabau speakers are more dominant using the Sigapokna language.

Abstract

Code-mixing and code-switching can effectively deal with the complex communicative demands that arise when participants have varied levels of linguistic ability. This paper aimed to examine the functions of code-mixing and code switching uttered by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Bang Denny Sumargo Interview Show on August 18th 2021 entitled “Terjebak Toxic Relationship'' (In A Toxic Relationship). The design of this study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were gathered from the interview in written data. An explanatory sample was used to analyze the collected data.Cinta Laura is a bilingual person who has the ability to use two languages with the same good manner. It means that there is not more dominant between one language to another.Furthermore, the most dominant function of code-mixing was incompetence and the most dominant function of code-switching was covering the ability to speak a specific language. Study results are expected to contribute to students and lecturers of English and researchers engaging in sociolinguistic research to explore further the purpose of using code-mixing and code-switching in conversation.
