Abstract

This study aims to explain the rational choice of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Kerajinan Sandal Topeng Malangan in determining strategies to face the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). These MSME produce sandals and shoes combined with Malangan mask decorations and Yogyakarta’s batik. Because of its uniqueness, this product has been successfully marketed domestically to overseas. This study uses a qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. Informant consisted of MSME owners and three workers. The technique of collecting data is done through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that there are several strategies chosen by MSME owners as determinants in running a bussines. The strategy was chosen because it was considered rational, because it has more value than other strategies. Strategies that are used as rational choices include, among others, 1) incorporating culture elements, namely the Malangan mask and Yogyakarta ‘batik tulis’ on its products, the purpose of which is to be unique and to introduce regional local wisdom at national and international levels. 2) Promoting its products through exhibition activities, for marketing purposes. 3) Creating a comfortable atmosphere for works, because the work atmosphere determines the results of the work obtained. 4) Choosing to use reseller services to market the product rather than market is themselves , the goal of it is to focus more an production activities or product quality improvement, and consider the number of workers and the size of small business houses. 5) Completeness of thecnology so that work is more effective and efficient. Keywords: ASEAN Economic Community, MSME (Micro, Small, Medium Enterprise), Rational Choice, Strategy AbstrakPenelitian ini untuk menganalisis pilihan rasional Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah Kerajinan Sandal Topeng Malangan dalam menentukan strategi menghadapi Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN (MEA). UMKM ini memproduksi sandal dan sepatu dengan hiasan topeng Malangan dan batik tulis Yogyakarta. Produk ini telah berhasil dipasarkan di dalam negeri hingga keluar negeri. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Informan terdiri dari pemilik UMKM serta tiga orang pekerjanya. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, terdapat beberapa strategi yang dipilih oleh pemilik UMKM selaku penentu dalam menjalankan usaha. Strategi tersebut dipilih karena dianggap rasional, sebab memiliki nilai lebih dibandingkan strategi yang lain. Strategi yang dijadikan sebagai pilihan rasional antara lain, 1) memasukkan unsur budaya yakni topeng Malangan dan batik tulis Yogyakarta pada produknya, tujuannya agar memiliki keunikan serta untuk memperkenalkan kearifan lokal daerah di tingkat nasional maupun internasional. 2) Mempromosikan produknya melalui kegiatan pameran, untuk tujuan pemasaran. 3) Menciptakan suasana yang nyaman bagi pekerja, karena suasana kerja menentukan hasil pekerjaan yang diperoleh. 4) Memilih menggunakan jasa reseller untuk memasarkan produk dibandingkan memasarkannya sendiri, tujuannya agar lebih fokus pada kegiatan produksi atau peningkatan kualitas produk, serta mempertimbangkan jumlah pekerja dan ukuran rumah usaha yang kecil. 5) Kelengkapan teknologi agar pekerjaan lebih efektif dan efisien. Kata Kunci: UMKM (Usaha, Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah), Masyarakat Ekonomi ASEAN, Pilihan Rasional, Strategi.

Abstract

Village dignity is evident from the efforts of the village to mobilize all of its resources, including in strengthening the Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) sector. Strengthening MSMEs becomes important as an economic asset of the village, while at the same time reducing rural and urban inequality.This effort continues to be carried out and endeavored by the village of Gogodeso, Kanigoro sub-district, Blitar district. Since because they are aware of its great potential, unfortunately it has not been optimized. The vision of building a village changes. With the facilitation from team, it is optimized by first analyzing the potential situation of MSMEs through the Participatory Rural Appraisal approach based on Village-Driven Development, which means that it requires the active involvement of all village stakeholders. Followed by the alignment of vision and mission through the Building Village Workshop and finally through assistance in marketing through packaging branding as part of the problems of SMEs so far. These three steps are part of an effort to turn Gogodesa village into the MSME Goddess (MSME-based Tourism Village). The result is that the community who initially wanted to build an agriculture-based village changed and agreed to build an MSME-based village.
