Abstract

Until now, Indonesia does not have any dynamics exhaust pollution test standard, which is customized to Indonesian traffic and climate. On the other hand, the air pollution problem in Indonesian big cities has reached a critical level.Some researches done by some institutions (including ITB) show that the air pollution level in Jakarta and some other big cities is mainly caused by transportation, industry, domestic, and trash burning. Among those four pollution sources, transportation (motorized vehicles) is the most significant. Therefore, in order to solve the air pollution problem effectively, it has to be started from the transportation sector, and It is very important to do an intensive research which leads to a establishment of a test standard for exhaust gas pollution that is designed based on Indonesian condition.The application of a suitable dynamics exhaust gas pollution test standard is expected to support the pollution monitoring and control activities all over Indonesia, especially in big cities, so that the Indonesian air pollution can be reduced and maintained in a save level.

Abstract

The thermohydraulic aspect utilization on a nuclear reactor is very dominant, because the system gives limitation on the reactor operation. Regarding the problem, theoretical analysis of thermohydraulic aspect is done for a research reactor of 2 MW with hexagonal configuration of fuel elements With an assumption that the power generation each fuel element is the same and the other facilities are neglected, the output of FLUENT V4.25 program gave information that theoretically this research reactor can be operated on thermal power of 2 MW.

Abstract

Sub-channel analysis is a method for analyzing thermal hydraulic aspects of nuclear reactors or heat exchangers. The analysis calculates distributions of fluid temperature, pressure, axial velocity, transverse velocity, and fuel rod temperature or heat flux. This paper deals with efforts for improving the accuracy of the sub-channel method. Three numerical schemes for evaluating transversal advective heat rates, i.e.: up wind, exponential, and central difference schemes, were compared. The differences among calculation results obtained by programs that apply these schemes were insignificant. The paper also seeks the best definition of averaged temperature for evaluating physical properties of control volume. It was found that accuracy of the sub-channel method can be improved if the volume-averaged and area-averaged enthalpy in the energy equation, and the volume-averaged density in the axial momentum equation were evaluated based on the fluid temperatures at the middle of control volumes.

Abstract

Untuk kondisi tertentu seperti di tempat penambangan bawah tanah, atau pada pemadam kebakaran, pengkondisian udara individual sering sangat diperlukan untuk dapat menjagatiap individu pada tingkat yang optimal. Untuk tujuan ini, sistem pengkondisian udara yang konvensional tidak lagi tepat untuk diterapkan. Sistem pendinginan tabung vorteks meskipun ditinjau dari segi COP kurang, tampaknya mempunyai pelluang yang cukup besar untuk dapat memenuhi tujuan tersebut. Dalam tulisan ini, dibahas tentang gejala-gejala yang terlibat dalam pendinginan tabung vorteks. Realisasi perangkat pengujiannya bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan kepada para mahasiswa tentang efek pendinginan vorteks serta berbagai penerapannya melalui suatu praktikum percobaan.

Abstract

In this research, a simulation method has been developed for designing a solar air conditioner and predicting its perfomances. This simulation based on solar irradiation data, solar collector performance data, LiBr-H2O absorption chiller single effect performance data, Phase Change Material (PCM) data as its inputs. Napthalene is used for HTTS and acetic acid is used for TTS. Energy balance, mass balance, and characteristic equations of each component are used in the solar air conditioning simulation. Validation of the developed simulation model was done with experiment data for solar air conditioning system with HTTS and LTTS without auxiliary heater. Generally, the tendency of the simulation and experiment results are similar. The application of HTTS and LTTS make the system can be operated more in 100 minutes.

Abstract

Di bidang teknik pendingin terbitnya kesepakatan Protokol Montreal, mencetuskan masalah yang cukup besar, Karena R12 (CCl2F2,) dan refrigeran sejenis lainnya yang selama ini menjadi refrigeran andalan, tidak akan lagi dapat dipakai dan perlu segera dicarikan penggantinya. Dalam tulisan ini dibahas mengenai peluang pemakaian campuran propana/n-butana sebagai alternatif subtitusi sementara R12 hingga refrigeran pengganti yang lebih baik dan ekonomis dapat diperoleh di pasaran. Untuk prediksi sifat termodinamika campuran tersebut. dalam tulisan ini diusulkan sebuah persamaan tingkat keadaan termodinamika yang dapai dievaluasi dari sifat masing-masing unsurnya. Pembahasan dititik-beratkan pada penjabaran dan pengembangan persamaan tersebut serta hasil yang diperoleh dikaitkan denganusaha untuk mendekati sifat termodinamika R12.

Abstract

Lingkup studi eksperimental dalam makalah ini mencakup aspek termohidralik berkas empat pipa susunan sebaris pada fasilitas NILO I. Aspek termohidrolik dalam reaktor nuklir memegang peranan yang sangat penting ,karena berkaitan dengan keselamatan reakto. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengamatan secara eksperimen aspek termohidrolik sub-buluh denganmempergunakan tabung pipa uji yang terdiri dari empat pemanas. Sub-buluh pada penelitian ini dibagi ke dalam tiga bagian, sub-buluh tengah, sub-buluh pinggir, dun sub-buluh pojok. Setiap sub-buluh dibagi ke dalam delapan uni! sel dalam arah aksial. Data hasil pengamatan eksperimental distribusi temperatur yang didapatkan dibandingkan dengan hasil analisis numerik sub-buluh. Distribusi koefisien perpindahan panas lokal pada setiap sub-buluh dihitung berdasarkan data percobaan, kemudian dicari korelasi antara bilangan Nusselt, ReynoIds dan Prandtl. Distribusi temperatur dari hasil percobaan lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan hasil simulasi numerik, sedangkan korelasi antara bilangan Nusselt, Reynolds dan Prandtl yang didapat dari hasil percobaan tidak sesuai dengan korelasi yang ditunjukkan oleh Dittus-Boelter.

Abstract

The FLUENT V4.25 program is the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation. It can be used for fluid flow and heat transfer analyses and others. Regarding the program, the test is needed to know the validity, to verify that the program will give good output. Based on the test using experimental data on four heated parallel rod bundles, the output FLUENT V4.25, it gave a good result, where the differences between calculation and experimental data are not significant. It is expected that the FLUENT V4.25 program may achieve success in thermohydraulic analysis on other similar systems.

Abstract

In this experiment, the study focusses on reactor core thermohydraulic aspects especially the distributions of fuel surface temperature, fluid temperature and fluid axial velocity. Simulation data were obtained in the middle, at the edge and at the comer sub-channels. In this experiment, modeling of hexagonal configuration of reactor core and reflector was carried out. The power generations were assumed constant at 250 kwatt, 375 kwatt and 5 00kwatt for each filel element. This model was prepared and analyzed using Fluent Version 4.25 package program available at the Thermodynamic Laboratory of IURC-ES. The result shows that this reactor core model gives low fuel surface and fluid temperatures.
