Abstract

The most essential thing that every human in the world has is freedom. With freedom humans can display their existence as a result of reason and character. Freedom is a source of individual freedom to develop and develop their potential. But often humans are shackled by their freedom or independence by others. Likewise a nation that changes colonialism will be deprived of its freedom. The colonizing nation would oppose imposing its authority on its colonial state. The occupation of the Serbs against the Sarajevo nation was one of the cruel forms of colonialism on earth. Serbia commits terror against the citizens of Sarajevo. One form of horrific terror is the rapes committed by the Serbian army on Muslim women in Sarajevo. Serbia considers rape terror as the most effective weapon to kill the people of Sarajevo. The women of Sarajevo war victims recovered from the trauma that had escaped. Many of the victims of rape gave birth to children of Serbian soldiers. On the contrary, those who oppose the atrocities of the Serb-Sarajevo war are not only women but also innocent children as a result of rape. The psychological and sociological influence was very much accepted by the victims at the end of colonialism. Although the war is over, these victims of rape terror support life with unforgettable dark shadows. Both the mother and the child will continue to be haunted by these bad memories. These children would be difficult to accept in the community because they thought the children of the colonizers. They will be ostracized in the association and of course will resolve social discomfort.

Abstract

Hamlet adalah seorang pangeran di negara Denmark. Ayahnya baru meninggal dan pamannya Claudius naik tahta. Selain itu pamannya juga menikahi ibu Hamlet, Gertrude. Bahkan dikisahkan pula bahwa Hamlet sempat berpura-pura menjadi gila dan bahkan ia juga sempat membuat suatu panggung pementasan dan mengundang sejumlah aktor untuk memainkan sebuah kisah yang ia karang sendiri, terkait dengan pembunuhan seorang raja. Semua tindakan tersebut jelas Hamlet arahkan untuk mencari perhatian pamannya. Suatu sikap yang dapat dinilai pengecut, seolah Hamlet takut untuk berhadapan langsung dengan pamannya. Pada saat yang sama, beberapa teman Hamlet melihat hantu yang mengaku dirinya ayah Hamlet. Ketika Hamlet juga melihat hantu ini, ia disuruh untuk membalas dendam karena Claudius telah membunuhnya. Hamlet pura-pura gila untuk menjebak Claudius. Dalam terminologi sastra teori semiotik sangat penting karena sistem bahasa dalam sastra merupakan sistem bahasa kedua, sisana terdapat penanda dan petanda, sistem bahasa adalah lambang/tanda, sehingga dalam sastra , bahasa yang di konsumsi bukan bahasa biasa terutama bahasa puitika. untuk lebih jelasnya kita akan melihat teori semiotik ini meliputi; historitas, pendekatan, teori, prosedur (metode), asumsi tentang tentang karya sastra dan kelibihan juga kekurangannya. Semiotika dalam tindak penelitian sastra menjadi salah satu pendekatan, yang terhitung kerap digunakan dalam ragam penelitian sastra. Penggalian nilai dan makna melalui tanda-tanda yang terdapat pada karya sastra tentunya akan terkait erat dengan semiotika yang memilki fokus pada sistem tanda. Terkait dengan tindakan analisis semiotik terhadap karya sastra, pada fokus pembicaraan buku ini, maka penelitian sastra (semiotika) akan melibatkan bahasa yang dianggap sebagai media komunikasi dalam bentuk bahasa yang memuat banyak sistem tanda.

Abstract

Masyarakat sebagai pembaca akan mengidentifikasikan dirinya sebagai tokoh dalam cerita. Mereka akan cenderung merasakan apa yang karakter rasakan dan melakukan apa yang karakter lakukan. Tampaknya pembaca hidup dalam cerita dan membayangkan diri mereka sebagai aktor fiksi. Meskipun sebuah fiksi adalah karya pengarang, bukan berarti cerita hanyalah seorang penulis imajinatif individu. Ini adalah produk dari suatu masyarakat. Jadi sastra dan budaya masyarakat merupakan satu kesatuan. Penelitian ini akan menganalisa plot pada novel Rebecca. Kisah pada novel Rebecca ini diatur secara menggugah di belantara Cornwall, di sebuah rumah pedesaan besar bernama Manderley. Terdapat lima tahapan plot yang terdiri atas tahap penyituasian (situation), tahap pemunculan konflik (generating circumstances), tahap peningkatan konflik (rising action), tahap klimaks (climax) serta tahap penyelesaian (denounment). Tahap penyituasian (situation), yaitu tahapan pelukisan dan pengenalan situasi latar dan tokoh-tokoh cerita. Tahap pemunculan konflik (generating circumstances), yaitu tahap munculnya masalah-masalah dan peristiwa yang menyulut terjadinya konflik. Tahap peningkatan konflik (rising action), yaitu tahap perkembangan konflik yang ada sebelumnya serta makin mencekamnya peristiwa-peristiwa yang ada. Tahap klimaks (climax), yaitu konflik dan peristiwa yang terjadi mencapai intensitas puncak. Tahap penyelesaian (denounment), yaitu penyeleisaian konflik yang terjadi, pengendoran ketegangan, serta pemberian jalan keluar dan atau pengakhiran cerita. Penelitian ini akan membahas tentang lima tahapan plot pada novel Rebecca. Dengan adanya analisis plot pada novel Rebecca, maka akan diketahui alur cerita novel tersebut dengan terperinci. Abstract

Literature is an imaginative works of an author. Literature is also part of culture. In a fiction or story there are some norms, values, attitude, and behavior that reflects the society in which the writer live in. There are normative function of literature in a society . So literature can also influence social change. Fiction can change economic, family, lifestyle, or attitude of a community. Society as the reader will identify themselves as the characters in the story. They will tend to feel what the characters feel and do what the characters do. One -or maybe two - values contained in the short story entitled The Gift of the Magi are social and moral values. The explanation of social and moral values itself is well known. Where social is interaction and moral is an assessment of the good and bad of a particular thing. It can be seen that moral and social values are bound to each other. It seems that reader live in the story and imagine themselves as fictional actors. Even though a fiction is an author works, it doesn’t mean that story is only an individual imaginative writer. It is the product of a society. So literature and culture of society is a unity. They influence for each other.

Abstract

The outbreak of the covid-19 virus in Indonesia has had major consequences for the world of education, which has issued a government policy through the ministry of education and culture regarding the prohibition of universities from holding lectures in order to break the chain of the spread of the covid-19 virus. One alternative learning method that is considered appropriate to replace face-to-face lectures with lectures held online by the campus as a facilitator of learning media providers as used on the STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang campus is by using zoom meeting media. In English courses, especially in speaking and listening classes, they have difficulty in giving lectures in online lectures. This will result in the level of mastery of students' speaking and listening skills. Therefore, the authors apply interactive multimedia learning methods using English films that are played during lectures. The purpose of this study was to analyze students' abilities in speaking and listening classes using interactive multimedia learning methods held online. The research method used is quantitative using questionnaires distributed by sampling to students related to the learning method by watching movies in English online classes. This method describes an interactive multimedia learning method held online at STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang in English courses (speaking and listening classes), with STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang students as research subjects. With the application of learning methods with interactive multimedia in speaking and listening classes in English courses, students can experience a fun learning process so that they can improve students' speaking and listening skills.

Abstract

English courses at STIKOM Uyelindo are given in semesters 1 and 2. In implementing English courses at STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang, there are still several obstacles in the teaching and learning process. One of them is the lack of absorption of English language material by students. This is because the method used in teaching is still teacher centered. The lecturer delivers the material and students listen and take notes. After delivering the material, the lecturer provides students with several exercises to do. During English lectures using this method, the results achieved were not optimal. Students' abilities in five English skills are less than optimal. The five skills referred to include: reading, writing, listening, translating, and speaking. In studying, a student is usually supported by several aspects to achieve maximum results. Several aspects that support learning include students being able to collaborate with other students. Apart from being influenced by learning methods, student learning outcomes are also influenced by student participation. The results obtained from the research are that there is a correlation between the group discussion method and increased student learning achievement in English courses, in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The correlation between group discussions and student test results in class A is 0.60 which means that the two variables have a strong relationship, while in class B the correlation between group discussions and student test results in class B is 0.71 which means that The two variables have a very strong relationship.

Abstract

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized English language proficiency test which is a prerequisite for continuing study or work. There are still many people who experience difficulties in carrying out the IELTS test to achieve a score above 6. The aim of the research is to know what are the factors that affect the result of students IELTS test. This research wants to find out what factors influence students' mastery of IELTS material. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Qualitative descriptive research uses a series of methods to specify and describe data findings that occur in the field without providing experimental treatment. There are four IELTS materials given during the test, including: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. These four materials require strategies in their implementation and each has their own difficulties in mastering them. This research will be conducted at STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang with the research object being students of the Informatics and Information Systems Engineering Study Program Semester 2. It is hoped that this research will provide readers with an understanding regarding the success factors in carrying out the IELTS test.
