Abstract

The tries to reveal the role of Muslim women (Muslimah) to mitigate conflict. The reason is that conflict resolution is often associated with males, while females have been seen hitherto as being incompetent to take a part within such important matter. One could pose a question whether women are less potent?than men?to be actors and mediators to conflict resolution or they become merely victims of every emerging conflict? Departing from this point, this article which employs bibliographical approach, attempts to expose the extent of Muslimah?s role in resolving and mitigating conflicts. It has been known that women share equal rights and responsibilities with men. However, when women deal with wide spectrum within their social activities, they have been always subordinated under the role of men. The author argues that women possess less domination than men in a number of social realms such political, educational, economical aspects. Consequently, women are viewed as biologically and socially weaker than men. Therefore, they tend to be neglected from taking role in conflict resolution.

Abstract

Many studies on pesantren in Indonesia put more emphasis only on the aspect of pesantren as the oldest Islamic educational institution in the archipelago, instead of any other aspects related to this type of educational institution. Recently, a growing number of studies have shifted their topic into one particular focus, namely radicalism or Islamism in pesantren. This paper aims to examine the responses of pesantren teachers and students to the term Islamism. This study has been conducted at Pesantren Mawaridussalam, an Islamic boarding school located in Batang Kuis village, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Specifically, this article elaborates on the responses of teachers and students to the issue of the Islamic state, shariazation (make Islamic law as the law of the state), democracy, and jih?d (a struggle or fight against the enemies of Islam). The findings of this study indicate that the teachers and the students have varied understandings of Islamism. Some argue that the term is close to Islamists, while some others believe that it is identical to Islamists. Despite such understanding, most of the teachers and the students reject the use of violence in fighting for the ideals of Islam.

This research used qualitative method with the sample of approximately 45 preachers determined by purposive sampling which then analyzed descriptively. The author concluded that the perception of preachers to justice and gender equality has not been entirely appropriate. There is incorrect understanding to religious creed which raises wrong perception to the gender equity and justice in matters of religious teachings. On one hand, they tend to to impress the gender awareness on one of theme in one of indicator that was not consistent with other themes that exist in the same indicators. Thus, counter argument appears, for example the majority of them agree that a leader should not be a man, but they also do not agree that a woman having higher positions than men. There is relationship between preachers perception with disposition of genders which woman like to show her side while the men from 50% still show gender bias. Kata Kunci: gender, kesetaraan, keadilan, muballigh, muballighah

Abstract

Abstract

Kata Kunci: ustaz, ustazah, ketidakadilan, gender, suku Abstract: The Perception of Islamic Preachers about Gender Bias Reviewed From Ethnic Group Backgrounds. The existence of various studies and literature on gender does not automatically change the society's opinion about gender equality. As such, supporters and opponents of the idea are readily found. One opinion goes as far as saying that gender studies try to alter the teachings of religion itself. In the gender studies has been found that many contributed to the emergence and development of gender biased ideology in Muslim societies, especially in Indonesia. Among those responsible to discriminatory preservation of women are religious leaders who are represented by ustaz and ustazah where they play the role of religious teachings to the Muslim community. This article examines the opinions of ustaz and ustazah on gender inequality realized from the background of each ethnic group, so it will be revealed about whether there is a link between ethnic background of an ustaz and ustazah to their perception of gender injustice. Based on field studies, where the research data was obtained from questionnaires and interviews, this study found that there is an understanding of gender bias in ustaz and ustazah perceptions in Medan city. This study is expected to contribute to gender studies in Indonesia. Keywords: ustaz, ustazah, injustice, gender, ethnic group

Abstract: The aim of this research is to look at the Shia educational movement in Indonesia as it develops its philosophy. Document study activities, observation, and interviews were used to gather data. Two findings were offered in this study. The first is marriage, which is a technique for expanding the number of Shiites in Indonesia by allowing a husband and wife to establish an Islamic family structure based on Shia beliefs. In this setting, the family serves as the primary educational institution in Indonesia for the young Shia generation. The second, internalization of information, attitudes, and abilities, takes place in activities created by Islamic organizations and foundations founded by Shia groups in Indonesia. The many organizations and foundations involved in education and religion have formed a venue for Shia community education in introducing and propagating their schools of thought. Keywords: educational institutions, shia, minority groups
