Abstract

Unit Pelaksana Teknis Dinas (UPTD) Griya Werdha Jambangan was established as an attempt to overcome the problem of increasing number of neglected elderly in Surabaya city. In this nursing home there are some interior design and facilities problems that are have not fully meet their needs. These interior problems make the elderly become dependent, also limit them in doing their activity. The purpose of this redesign is to accommodate and facilitate the elderly to be able to live and enjoy their old days independently, and provided with proper facilities to fill the leisure time and be more productive. The design method used in this process is design thinking by Sarah Gibbons, with six stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test and implementation.The redesign result is a nursing home with the concept of "Revive", which applied with the principle of accessible design and healing environment to create an adjustable interior of nursing home that adapts to the condition of the elderly who experienced the decrease of physical and psychological condition. Therefore, the elderly could live their life independently and productively. The designed facilities cover socializing, physical, recreational and spiritual activities

Abstract

Reading interest in Indonesia is needed to be developed by improving the infrastructure and library interior. Advancement in technologies also acts as a contributing factor in the cultural shift from physical collection to virtual ones. As such, the purpose of this project is to introduce technologies and modern cues to the designated library design. The design object is South Sulawesi Public Library and Archived which located in Jl. Sultan Alauddin km 7, Talasalapang, Makassar.The design method of this project adopt the design thinking process by Nielsen Norman which consists of; (1) Understand (Empathize and Define), (2) Explore (Ideate and Prototype) and (3) Materialize (Test and Implement). The project’s concept is SMART-Lib, where SMART-Lib stands for Sociable, Motivating, Adaptable, Refreshing, and Hi-Tech Library. The concept purpose is to present a modern library which supported by innovative technology that inspires and educate the user in the digital age.

Abstract

Problems that become the background of this design is because the people of Surabaya are less familiar with the existence of the mangrove ecosystem and the development of product’s potential by local SME’s in Surabaya. On the other hand, it is also due to inaccessibility and inadequate space to support these activities. The purpose of this design is to provide an alternative space to gather and introduce to the millennial generation to understand and experiment with the mangrove potential through educative, recreational, interactive, and local content approach, as well as the welfare of mangrove community. The design method used is the Disney method, which consists of 4 stages, which is spectator view, dreamers view, realists view, and critics view. The design result is a Mangrove Edu-Tourism Centre with the concept of Bound to Nature, with facilities include an open space lake, food stall, information and waiting area, SME product gallery, workshop studio, cultivation studio, staff room, lounge area, conservatory dome, sightseeing deck and teahouse. The author hopes that this design could provide solutions as well as being a global community space, with a micro efforts leads to a macro effects to help manage and save the mangrove environment in Surabaya.

Abstract

This theatre design is made due to the absence of proper musical theatre building in Surabaya. Musical theatre buildings require a special stage design that is flexible and can accommodate the rapid scene changes and various themes of the show. This theatre is made to not only accommodate musical theatre performances and activities but also provide a learning facility for the musical theatre communities. . In addition, the purpose of design is related to community recognition and education. This musical theatre design uses 6 steps Design Thinking approach which consists of understand, observe, point of view, ideate, prototype, and test. “Fantasia Theatre” is chosen as a concept for this theatre. The result of this design is a stage built with scenic design approach. Facilities available in the building include a lobby, box office, gallery, community space, merchandising area, auditorium and a holistic backstage area. This musical theatre design can be a solution as well as a center for concerts and musical theatre performances in Surabaya.

Abstract

Petra Christian University has various lecture and student activities. Lecture activities at Petra Christian University have adequate facilities, but other activities, such Student Organization, need better facilities to optimize the internal coordination process. The main objective of this design is to provide a place that accommodate student's social and recreation needs also to improve the coordination among Student Organizations. The design method for the Student Center design consists of Understand, Observe, Point of View, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Through Understand, Observe and Point of View stages, basic problems are found and design concept in Ideate stage is formed. The final design results a Student Center with CARE (Collaborative, Active, Respect, Educative) concept. The interior and furniture elements are designed to stimulate students to socialize, coordinate and play together. In addition, the design is expected to form a good behavior for students at Petra Christian University.

Abstract

Mall is one of the most accessible recreational places for all because of the variety of entertainment options. However, the lack of facilities that are accessible to the elderly plus their weak physical conditions caused the limitation of activities that they can do in the mall. The interior design of senior entertainment center in the mall in Surabaya can be an alternative option for recreational, educational, and socialization activity between elders. The design method used is Stanford School thinking of design method that has been developed. The method consists understand, observe, resolving needs, prototype, test, story telling, and business model. The design raised the Old but Gold concept which provides facilities to accommodate seniors’ activities, such as activity space, games, and exercise rooms with the aim of increasing happiness, socialization, and support good health both in body as well as their spirit.
