Abstract

This research is aimed at finding how the students of English Department of State University of Gorontalo perceive the thing as revealed in the metaphor they used in their English Poem and, as well, interpreting the metaphor. This research was designed in qualitative research methodology. The subject of research was the poems written by the students in 2010. It is found that the students used metaphor to express their feeling. The metaphor reflects the students’ perception of the reality categorized in semantic fields. In terms of the intended meaning of the metaphor, the researcher inferred the meaning by finding the metaphor predications based on the researcher knowledge of the predication.

Abstract

This article discusses how to build positive classroom interaction through positive classroom discourse. This article is focused on lecturers’ utterances that consist of lecturers’ sentence construction and speech acts. The lecturers’ speech acts were discussed based on Sinclair and Coulthard’s theory of classroom speech acts and Austin’s speech acts that were developed by Searle. Both sentence construction and the lecturers’ classroom speech acts affect classroom interaction. Positive discourse builds positive classroom interaction. In terms of sentence construction, the lecturer constructed Designedly Incomplete Utterance (DIU). This was designed to drive the students to complete them. In terms of lecturers’ speech acts, the lecturers performed elicitation and the students responded to it. The lecturer’s negative speech acts were an expressive illocutionary act of anger that built the classroom negatively. The DIU and elicitation were categorized as positive discourse and the anger expression was negative.

Abstract

This is the discourse analysis of the text of radicalism. The analysis is aimed at how the texts issue radicalism. The data are obtained from the internet. They were analyzed by applying the theory of relevance developed by Sperber and Wilson. The research shows that the texts contain explicature, higher-level explicature, and implicature. The research shows that the texts implied the accusing Islam the religion of radicalism and that Muslims are a radical group of people.

Abstract

Due to the importance of technology in pandemic, Indonesias government had prepared education using technology by cooperating with Google to make Akun Pembelajaran to accesses online learning media for teachers and students. However, since the regulation number 23 in 2021 was released and other regions used Akun Pembelajaran, government of Boalemo regency implemented the regulation after 4 months. Additionally, the purpose of this research was to investigate the implementation of Akun Pembelajaran by English teachers in Botumoito junior high schools. There were six schools taken at this research, those were SMPN 1, SMPN 2, SMPN 3, SMPN 4, SMPN 5 and SMPN 6. This research used case study as the method of research. This research focuses on phenomena (Akun Pembelajaran) that are real in Botumoito sub-district junior high schools. This research also used qualitative research as the approach of research and unstructured-interview as the technique of collecting the data. Based on the results of the research, it was found that all the teachers in Botumoito had not implemented Akun Pembelajaran optimally. The implementation was on the subject of storing the data, calculating the students scores, accessing Canva for education, and collecting teaching materials. It was implicated that there was barely facilitation which support the teachers in getting information and practically train the teachers on how to implement Akun Pembelajaran. Therefore, a further training on how to implement Akun Pembelajaran is wisely expected. Adapun mengingat pentingnya teknologi di masa pandemic, pemerintah Indonesia telah menyiapkan pendidikan menggunakan teknologi dengan menggandeng Google untuk membuat Akun Pembelajaran guna mengakses media pembelajaran daring bagi guru dan siswa. Namun, sejak perpres 23 Tahun 2021 dirilis dan daerah lain menggunakan Akun Pembelajaran, pemkab Boalemo baru mengimplementasikannya selama 4 bulan. tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan Akun Pembelajaran oleh guru di SMP Botumoito. Terdapat enam sekolah yang diambil dalam penelitian ini, yaitu SMPN 1, SMPN 2, SMPN 3, SMPN 4, SMPN 5 dan SMPN 6. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian studi kasus sebagai metode penelitian. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan wawancara tidak terstruktur sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa semua guru di Botumoito belum mengimplementasikan Akun Pembelajaran secara optimal. Implementasinya pada pokok menyimpan data, menghitung nilai siswa, mengakses Canva untuk pendidik, dan mengumpulkan bahan ajar. Hal ini berimplikasi pada minimnya fasilitasi yang mendukung guru dalam mendapatkan informasi dan secara praktis melatih guru dalam mengimplementasikan Akun Pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, pelatihan lebih lanjut tentang bagaimana mengimplementasikan Akun Pembelajaran secara bijaksana diharapan.

Abstract

This article is aimed at discussing the language creativity of students of the English Department in creating English poems. The is article is based on the analysis of students who created English poems enrolling at the English Department of the State University of Gorontalo. The analysis was conducted from a linguistic perspective. The research has found that the students were creative in creating diction, repetition, and metaphor.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the role of discourse analysis in literary analysis. For this aim, the writers apply Sperber and Wilson’s theory of relevance. This theory says that the meaning of utterance might be analyzed in terms of explicature, higher-level explicature, and implicature. The drama analyzed is Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. The writers suggest that discourse analysis can function to analyze the language used in the context of drama and that this analysis should be applied in studying literary works.

Abstract

Penyelenggara kegiatan adalah SMP Negeri 2 Sumalata Timur, Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara, Provinsi Gorontalo. Peserta kegiatan adalah pata guru, baik yang berasal dari Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara maupun dari luar Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara. Materi Kegiatan adalah ”Strategi Membangun Novelty dalam Karya Ilmiah”. Kegiatan ini didadasrkan pada fenomena di mana para guru diminta membuat karya tulis ilmiah, baik dalam bentuk lapoan penelitian tindakan kelas mauoun artikel ilmiah. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dalam bentuki penyajian materi oleh penulis dan tanya jawab. Dalam penyajian penulis menjelaskan hakekat novelty dan pentingnya novelty. Novelty adalah temuan terbaru dalam karya tulis.pentingnya novelty adalah untuk memajukan pemikiran ilmiah dan syarat dimuatnya artikel dalam jurnal terakreditasi. Hasil kegiatan adalah dalam bentuk jangka pendek dan jangka panjang. Jangka pendek adalah para guru memiliki pengetahuan yang memadai tentang novelty. Hasil jangka panjang adalah diharapkan para guru nanti bisa membuat novelty.

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengenai kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh penulis. Penulis melakukan kegiatan penyuluhan tentang hakekat plagiat dan cara menghindari plagiat bagi para guru. Kegiatan disponsori oleh SMP Negeri 2 Sumalat Timur, Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara, Provinsi Gorontalo, pada tanggal 5 Mei 2023. Para peserta kegiatan adalah guru, baik yang berasal dari Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara maupun diluar Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara. Hasil dari kegiatan ini terbagi dua, hasil jangka pendek dan hasil jangka panjang. Hasil Jangka pendek adalah antusiasnya pata guru dalam mengikuti kegiata. Hasil jangka panjang adalah harapan bahwa para guru akan menhasilkan banyak karya ilmiah yang bebas dari plagiat.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal how positive character is revealed in children’s poems. This is based on the phenomenon that mostly it is the adults that teach positive character to children by writing poems for children. We seldom find analysis that reveals how children perceive the positive character and express it in their poems. For this aim, the writers analyzed three poems that consist of two Indonesian poems and one English poem. The poems were analyzed in two steps, i.e., by skimming and intensive reading. Skimming is to get the general impression and intensive reading is to have an intensive understanding of the poems by analyzing the keywords, key phrases, and key sentences of the poems. The result of the analysis shows that Indonesian poems put a positive character on honoring heroes. English poem puts a positive on praying and feeling empathy for those who are suffering and criminals. This indicates that children have their own perception of positive characters as reflected in their poems.
