Abstract

The COVID-19 epidemic has impeded tourism activities worldwide. Pancoh Ecotourism Village is an instance of a tourist destination that was compelled to cease its operations amid the pandemic. Nevertheless, that does not imply that nothing can be accomplished.   Amidst the pandemic, it is imperative to create tourism offerings that are more inventive in order to adapt to the new normal period. The Pancoh Ecotourism Village offers an innovative tourism package that combines art and culture based on the concept of storynomics. This study employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method to engage village communities as active participants, rather than just sources of information. The aim is to involve them in the process of gathering, organizing, and presenting narratives about the local arts and culture that define the Ecotourism Villages of Pancoh.   This study discovered that the PAR technique is beneficial for students who are examining the extent of community involvement in developing a work plan, namely in this case, the creation of tour packages based on storynomics. However, PAR encounters challenges such as extended research duration, varying levels of informant motivation, and the researcher's requirement for considerable adaptability in terms of time and ability to engage with informants.

Abstract

As the name might suggest, a hybrid event is a mix of live and virtual events. Starting its popularity in the middle of 2020, it emerged as a response and survival strategy for the creative community and the tourism industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in urban areas. This form of adaptation was acknowledged several months after the virus outbreaks. Following the title, hybrid events during the pandemic may be seen merely as a non-permanent solution or a novelty for further development. This research believes that the transformation influences four fundamental aspects—technology, institution, people, and environment. Those aspects are essential in shaping a new form in the global era. Based on the ideas of transformation in the globalization era and tourist experience theory, the discussion focused on the people involved in the events industry, how the hybrid events have been carried out to date, and how they relate to urban tourism. This research aims to discover the existence of hybrid events for urban tourism years after the COVID-19 pandemic. The results highlight how hybrid events during the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impact the tourist movement and directly affect the tourism industry. Unlike the conventional event, the participant did not gain the utmost tourism experience in the urban destination. Following that, some patterns have been found in the hybrid event. Those patterns indicate the existence and hybrid event’s potential for further development.

Abstract

Following the announcement by the national government of the cases of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, tourism activities in various destinations in Indonesia, including the Pancoh Ecotourism Village, as one of the partners of the UGM Tourism Studies Program, were immediately postponed. This condition impacted the local economic circulation as the income of the population decreased. In the background of this pandemic scenario, tourism operations will hopefully be resumed as soon as possible. The Community Service Program was therefore carried out in order to achieve the key objective; to create a promotional video for the Pancoh Ecotourism Village in preparation for re-operation under a new health protocol via collaborative work. The other goal of this Community Service Program is to fulfill the commitment to higher education through Tridarma. In addition, a Community Partnership was formed to assist the Pancoh Ecotourism Team in particular and the Village Community in general in the planning of post-pandemic tourism activities to encourage the sustainability of tourism in the village concerned. This program used Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) which consists of five stages, from project design to reporting, as an approach. The results of the program include a video training program and a virtual video promotion of the Pancoh Ecotourism Village. Public engagement and institutional collaboration have been important and considered to be the key to success of this program. By the end of the program, video promotion will be released via the social media of Pancoh.
