Abstract

Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in children in the world, as well as in Indonesia. To reduce mortality due to diarrhea, it needs fast and appropriate management. Probiotics have been widely used in cases of acute diarrhea in children but have not been recommended at the Klungkung Regional General Hospital. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of prebiotic administration on the duration of diarrhea in pre-school children. This type of quantitative observational research uses a comparative study design. This study involved 40 respondents who were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria with purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the duration of diarrhea in pre-school children given prebiotics averaged 23.74 or 24 hours 14 minutes, while the duration of diarrhea in pre-school children given standard therapy was on average 47 hours 49 minutes. The results of the Independent T Test obtained p value = 0.001 <0.05, which means that prebiotic administration is more effective than giving standard therapy to the duration of diarrhea in pre-treated children. Suggested to the Hospital so that prebiotics can be used as standard therapy for pediatric patients who suffer from diarrhea. Keywords: Prebiotics, Duration of Diarrhea, Pre-school Children

Abstract

Introduction: Post-caesarean section wound pain is one of the most common complaints experienced by mothers and may hinder early mobilization, breastfeeding, and the recovery process. In addition to pharmacological management, husband-assisted support as a form of emotional and social support is considered to play an important role in reducing pain perception. This study aimed to determine the effect of husband assistance on wound pain among post-caesarean section mothers at Grha Bhakti Medika General Hospital. Method: A quantitative study with a quasi-experimental posttest-only control group design was conducted involving 30 post-caesarean section mothers selected using a consecutive sampling technique. Participants were divided into an intervention group (n = 15), who received husband assistance, and a control group (n = 15), who received standard hospital care without husband assistance. Pain intensity was assessed 24 hours after surgery using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Result: Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test. The intervention group had a mean rank of 12.37, while the control group had a mean rank of 18.63. The Mann–Whitney test showed a Z value of −2.225 and a p-value of 0.026 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Husband assistance significantly reduced postoperative wound pain in mothers following caesarean section. Conclusion: There is an influence of the role of husband assistance on reducing wound pain in post-sectio caesarea mothers at Grha Bhakti Medika General Hospital.
