Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganilisis strategi penerjemahan dan pergeseran kata dalam penerjemahan frasa kata depan Bahasa Indonesia ke dalam Bahasa Inggris. Metode  yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian qualitatif deskriptif. Data yang digunakan diambil dari novel Bahasa Indonesia, Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk, oleh Ahmad Tohari, dan novel terjemahannya, The Dancer, oleh René T.A. Lysloff. Data diklasifikasikan ke dalam dua kategori utama, yaitu padanan dan pergeseran kata, yang kemudian diklasifikasikan lagi ke dalam padanan formal, padanan dinamik, unit shift dan cohesion shift. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa padanan dinamik paling sering terjadi, sebanyak 48% dari data keseluruhan.  Abstract This research aims to analyze the translation strategy and shift in translating Indonesian prepositional phrases into English. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The data used in this research are taken from the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari, and its translated version, The Dancer, by René T.A. Lysloff. The data are classified into two main categories, namely equivalence and shift, which are then classified into formal equivalence, dynamic equivalence, unit shift, and cohesion shift. The result shows that dynamic equivalence is most often used in the translation, about 48% of the overall data

Abstract

This research examined the classification of translation method of Newmark (1988) used by the translator in translating “We All Are Perfectly Imperfect” speech by Muniba Mazari (2018) and the translation quality assessment by referring to Nababan’s theory. This research used descriptive qualitative word. The data were collected through documentation, because the data were taken from Muniba Mazari’s “We All Are Perfectly Imperfect” speech translation by Paja Tapuih (in form of article). The result of this research indicate that six out of eight translation methods were applied in this research with Literal Translation as the most dominant method used. There are 277 data with Literal Translation method, 48 data with Communicative Translation method, 31 data with Faithful Translation method, 29 data with Word for Word Translation method, 10 data with Semantic Translation method, and 6 data with Free Translation method. Besides, the researcher also assess the quality of its translation with the methods used by the translator which refers to this three aspects, namely aspects of accuracy, aspects of acceptability and aspects of readability.
