Abstract

In the development process of primary school students, physical activity plays an important role in supporting this development. Several factors, including school type and student gender, can cause differences in physical activity levels. This study sought to review how physical activity levels are based on school type and how physical activity levels differ between male and female students in public and private primary schools. This study was conducted in Purwakarta Regency, Wanayasa District, and took a population of 3 public and three private elementary schools, with a sample of 60 people. This type of research is descriptive quantitative and uses the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children (PAQ-C) research instrument. From the results of the study, it is known that public primary schools have better physical activity levels compared to private primary schools. Male and female students in public primary schools have better physical activity levels than private primary school students.

Abstract

The low level of physical fitness among Indonesian children with 77.12% falling into the “inadequate” category calls for strengthening physical literacy from an early age, particularly among early-grade students (Phase A) in rural areas, which have been understudied. This study aims to describe the physical literacy profiles of Phase A students in elementary school, analyze differences in achievement by gender, and identify achievement levels in each domain. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, the study involved the entire population of first- and second-grade students at SDN 2 Sukakarya and SDN 2 Sukalaksana, Samarang Subdistrict, Garut Regency, with a total sample of 206 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using the adapted Physical Literacy in Children Questionnaire (PL-C Quest) and analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentages). The results showed that the majority of students (54%) fell into the moderate category, 43% into the high category, and 3% into the low category, with no significant difference between boys and girls (t=0.847; p>0.05). Achievement by domain showed that the social domain was the highest (88%), followed by the psychological (80.1%), cognitive (78.4%), and physical (67%), which was the lowest. The study concluded that Phase A students already possess a basic foundation in physical literacy; however, the development of the physical domain still needs to be encouraged through a fun, child-centered learning approach.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ limited understanding of the basic concepts of futsal, such as passing, kicking, positioning, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This situation highlights the need to implement a more appropriate and effective learning model in physical education. This study aims to determine the effect and level of effectiveness of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) learning model on students’ understanding of futsal. The research method used was quantitative with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 17 third- and fourth-grade students in the futsal extracurricular program, selected using purposive sampling. The instrument used was the GPAI (Game Performance Assessment Instrument), which measures seven components of game understanding, while data analysis included the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired-sample t-test, N-Gain Score, and Cohen’s d effect size. The results showed an increase in the average score from 15.18 on the pretest to 24.71 on the posttest, a difference of 9.53 points. The paired-sample t-test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), an average N-Gain Score of 0.58 (moderate category), and a Cohen’s d effect size of 2.37 (large category). The conclusion of this study is that the TGfU learning model has a significant effect and is highly effective in improving students’ understanding of futsal gameplay.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing modified large-ball games on the improvement of Positive Youth Development (PYD) among elementary school students. The method used was a quantitative approach with an experimental method employing a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were elementary school students selected through purposive sampling. The treatment consisted of implementing modified large-ball games over 14 physical education sessions, involving adjustments to rules, number of players, game duration, and the integration of values such as responsibility, cooperation, empathy, and sportsmanship. The research instrument used was the Positive Youth Development Inventory (PYDI), which measures five main dimensions of PYD: competence, confidence, connection, character, and caring. Data were analyzed using prerequisite tests and hypothesis testing through the Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed a significant improvement in all aspects of Positive Youth Development after the implementation of the modified large-ball games. The significance value obtained was less than 0.05, indicating a positive and significant effect on the development of PYD among elementary school students. In conclusion, the implementation of structured and developmentally appropriate modified large-ball games in physical education learning is proven to be an effective strategy for enhancing students’ competence, self-confidence, positive social relationships, character, and social caring. Abstract

This research aims to increase students' level of enjoyment in taking physical education lessons, to improve elementary school students' basic movement skills through the application of the TPSR learning model, to determine the effect of the TPSR learning model on increasing the personal responsibility of elementary school students in physical education learning. The research uses a quantitative approach with experimental methods. The sampling technique used was total sampling, involving all class IV students at SDN 11 Lembang, totaling 40 students. The research instruments were the Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) and the TPSR (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility) questionnaire test, the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES) questionnaire test. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and cross-sectional comparative studies. The results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the data was not normally distributed (p < 0.05), so hypothesis testing was carried out using the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that the enjoyment data was not normally distributed (p < 0.05), so the analysis was continued with the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The Wilcoxon test results show a value of Z = -5.356b with Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05 for enjoyment. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the TPSR (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility) learning model in PJOK learning provides a significant increase in the enjoyment and basic movements of elementary school students. These findings indicate that the TPSR model can be an effective teaching strategy for teachers to develop students' movement skills and character in a more balanced manner.   Keywords: Basic Movement, Enjoyment, Responsibility, TPSR (Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility)

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of audio-visual media on improving the forward roll floor exercise skills of Phase B deaf students in adaptive physical education. Students with hearing impairments face challenges in receiving verbal instructions, which often hinders their understanding of motor skills, especially in complex movements such as the forward roll. This quasi-experimental research used a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 10 students from a special education school. The intervention was conducted over 12 sessions using instructional videos accompanied by visual cues and progressive movement stages. Data were collected using an observation sheet and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ motor performance after the implementation of audio-visual media. The integration of visual-based instruction helped students to better observe, imitate, and internalize movement techniques. This study confirms that audio-visual media is an effective strategy for supporting the learning needs of students with disabilities, especially those with sensory impairments. Moreover, it contributes to the development of inclusive and adaptive physical education practices by encouraging the use of technology to enhance instructional delivery and student engagement.
