Abstract

The word “person” is generally used to refer to the existence of both humans and God. For humans, being a person means being able to think logically, have self-awareness, make free choices, and therefore be recognized morally and legally. The Christian faith believes in God as a Divine Person. The Dogma of the Trinity teaches faith in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Three Persons of one nature. Christological dogma teaches that Jesus is a Person who has both divine and human natures. However, what is a person? Specifically, what is the Divine Person? The answer to those questions is found not in the Bible but in the philosophical and theological tracts. This article presents Richard of Saint Victor’s argument on the Divine Person. In his De Trinitate, he sees that the definition of the Divine Person can explain the mystery of the Trinity. Richard borrows this existing understanding, especially from that of Boethius. However, he also offers novelty, which is still relevant today, namely the Trinitarian God as a Divine Person with summa caritas, perfect co-love that is unselfish, non-exclusive, and embraces diversity.

Abstract

Seperti beberapa buku Delio yang lain, The Ours of the Universe mengusung tema umum ‘dialog antara teologi dan sains’.

Abstract

Abstract. The holiness of the Church, in the Scripture and magisterium, could be explained in its depiction as the bride of Christ. With the same depiction, Hans Urs von Balthasar was observantly concerned with the sins of the Church as summarized in his essay, “Casta Meretrix.” This research is a literature study with a historical-critical approach, seeking to explore Balthasar's perspective and its novelty. The study found a new angle offered by Balthasar in understanding the reality of the sinful Church, which centered on the figure and saving action of Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom. Balthasar's view influenced the renewal of the Church in real life, especially during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II. The Church confessed and asked for forgiveness for sins that have been committed as the way of the cross. Finally, we offer two antinomies to understand the nature of the Church. At the same time, the Church: is made up of sinners, but is always called to holiness; and she is historical on earth, but seeks her holiness in union with God in heaven.

Abstract

This study explores Ilia Delio’s thought on a new paradigm of “catholicity” within the context of dialogue between faith and science. This topic is significant because the Catholic Church is frequently challenged to reassess the relevance of its teachings amid the rapid advancement of scientific knowledge and the global ecological crisis. The research employs a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach and literature review of Delio’s works. The main findings indicate that “catholicity” should not be understood merely as an institution or doctrinal system, but as a spiritual consciousness that unites all of creation in the love of God. The holistic dimension highlighted includes the interconnectedness of the universe, humanity, Christ, and the Church as part of a cosmic evolutionary process directed toward unity. The implications of this thought are relevant for the development of contextual theology, especially in addressing technological and ecological challenges in a more inclusive and sustainable way. This study offers added value through a systematic synthesis of Delio’s ideas and their potential application in renewing theological understandings of the identity and mission of the Catholic Church in the contemporary era.
