Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of giving katuk (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) to increase breast milk production. The method used is a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent control design for breastfeeding mothers in Lubuk Batang District, determined by quota sampling technique for as many as 60 people. Data analysis was performed by independent t-test to see the difference in breast milk production changes in the intervention and control groups. The results showed that the increase in breast milk production in the intervention group was 262.96 ml, while in the control group, it was 126.46 ml. The vegetable katuk intervention increased breast milk production by 107.9% more than the control group with an -value of 0.000. In conclusion, giving katuk vegetables to breastfeeding mothers is proven to increase breast milk production. Keywords: Breast Milk Production, Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.

Abstract

Anxiety is a response that often appears in children undergoing hospital treatment. The impact of anxiety on children is refusing treatment and slowing recovery. One of the nursing interventions to help reduce anxiety in preschool-aged children is the application of medical play. Medical play is medical play that gives children the opportunity to play and explore medical equipment such as stethoscopes, penlights, thermometers, and others regarding the actions they experience while in the hospital. The aim of the research is to get an overview of the application of medical play to the anxiety response of preschool-aged children who are undergoing hospitalization. The research used the case study method by providing direct application of medical play to respondents which was carried out from February to June 2022 in the Inpatient Room of Dr.Noesmir Baturaja Hospital. Respondents were 2 pre-school children who experienced anxiety due to hospitalization. The results of the study revealed that after nursing interventions in the application of medical play there was a decrease in anxiety levels marked by decreased verbalization of confusion in children, decreased verbalization of worry due to the conditions faced by children, decreased anxiety in children, decreased tension in children, decreased pulse frequency, , and the child does not look pale. Then the pattern of behavior in children improves, marked by the child's concentration improving, the child's sleep patterns improve, and eye contact improves. In conclusion, the application of medical play is an alternative to play therapy that can be used to reduce anxiety levels in pre-school children due to hospitalization

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Breast milk is the optimal method to fulfil the nutritional needs of infants for optimal growth and development. However, limited milk production and ejection in the first days after delivery is often a barrier to exclusive breastfeeding. Breast engorgement in breastfeeding mothers is also a common challenge, which can hinder breastfeeding. This study used a case study design with a nursing process approach. The subjects were two breastfeeding mothers over 25 years old who experienced breast engorgement. The interventions provided included a combination of breast care and acupressure, which was carried out for four consecutive days with a duration of 20-30 minutes per session. Data were collected through observation, interview, and cheque sheet. The results showed a significant decrease in the intensity of breast engorgement and an increase in milk production in both subjects. In client I, the frequency of breastfeeding increased from 5 times to 9 times per day, and the frequency of baby's BAK increased from 5 times to 7 times per day. In client II, the frequency of breastfeeding increased from 6 times to 10 times per day, and the frequency of baby's BAK increased from 5 times to 7 times per day. Both clients reported decreased pain and increased comfort while breastfeeding. The combination of breast care and acupressure intervention is effective in overcoming the problem of breast engorgement and increasing milk production in breastfeeding mothers. The researcher suggested the combination of breast care and acupressure as part of breast care management in breastfeeding mothers.
