The presence of flies on fish indicates that the level of freshness and cleanliness is not good in a fish market. Of course, it was made worse by the large piles of garbage. Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the density of flies and identify the types of flies at the fish selling point in Peunayong Market, Banda Aceh City.Method: This descriptive study used an experimental design by measuring the density of flies and identifying flies. The research was carried out at the Peunayong Market, Banda Aceh, in 2020. Snippets of using flies through the fly identification process at the Microbiology Laboratory of Aceh Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health. The data collected is the density of flies using the fly grill method and catching flies using fly traps. Data analysis was carried out univariate, with frequency distribution and descriptive. Results: The results showed that the average fly density was 4.52 at the fish selling point in the Peunayong market, Banda Aceh, which was in the medium category. The types of flies in fish selling places at the Peunayong market in Banda Aceh are Musca domestica and Crysomya megachepala. Conclusion: The fly density level in the Peunayong fish market was in the medium category, and the most common fly found was the Crysomya megachepala.

Abstract

Background: Blood screening of donors has been routinely conducted to anticipate various infectious diseases transmitted through blood transfusion. However, screening for malaria has not been a top priority at the Blood Transfusion Unit (BTU), despite Banda Aceh City being a malaria-endemic area. Screening for malaria is essential to reduce transmission risk and ensure recipient transfusion safety. Objectives: The study aimed to determine the results of the Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) examination of malaria in blood bags at the BTU in the Indonesian Red Cross (IRC)  branch in Banda Aceh. Methods: The study used an experimental design with the RDT method, which was conducted at the IRC Banda Aceh in December 2021. This study uses a descriptive research design through a cross-sectional approach. The total sample in this study was 30 donor blood bags taken by simple random sampling. Results: The results showed that malaria was found positive in 1 donor blood sample (3.33%) and 29 (96.67%) negative for malaria. Conclusion: The frequency of malaria screening results is predominantly negative. However, there are some positive ones in donor blood at the Banda Aceh branch of the Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit.

Abstract

Background: Diagnosis of typhoid fever can be done by tubex examination. Hematological changes occur in typhoid fever due to bone marrow suppression. The patient's hemoglobin decreased slowly to the point of anemia. Erythrocyte indices, namely mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), are used to classify anemia. Objectives: To determine the correlation between the degree of tubex positivity and the erythrocyte index in patients suffering from typhoid fever at the Aceh Regional General Hospital in 2023.Methods: Observational analytic with cross-sectional design. The sampling method was purposive sampling, inclusion criteria: respondents who underwent tubex examination and erythrocyte index. The research data is secondary data from regional general hospital medical record. Results: Based on Spearman's correlation, MCV has a very weak relationship with a positive patterned correlation, and MCHC has a very weak relationship with a negative patterned correlation where MCHC values decrease with an increase in the degree of tubex positivity. Conclusion: Typhoid fever sufferers may experience changes in the size of their erythrocytes to become larger, even though typhoid fever sufferers do not experience anemia.
