Abstract

English Learning is a process where a learner expanding his/her knowledge about English and its implementation. Speaking Difficulty is the inhibition that a learner used to face when they learn to use language orally. The purpose of conducting this research is to know about the difficulties that the students have in English spoken learning. Design of this research uses Qualitative research. Abstract

This research use quantitative research. This research use purposive sampling to take sample. This research uses one class to interview and test. This research took XII Tourism as a sample, XII Tourism consist of 33 students. After interview and test the result of the research there is students who take an external English course and students who don’t. From all 33 students 15 of them take an external English course and 18 do not take an external English course. In percent form, approximately 45, 45% of students take an external English course and approximately 54, 54% of students don’t. The result of test and interview is the students speaking ability does not completely relate to weather they take an external English course or not. Because when it comes to language, we have to use it to master it. The students have to use it even when they not in class so they will used to using it. The other factor that determined students ability, and there is circle and habits.  It can be conclude that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. It is suggested to the future researchers who are interested in deeper studying about how to make the students more excited to learn English especially speaking. The future researchers can use this research as a reference.

Abstract

AbstractThis research used 40 students of English Language Education Study Program of Faculty of Teachers Training and Education of Batanghari University Jambi year 2014 as the sample. Their Microteaching score and their supervisors’ assessment of their teaching performance in teaching practice in the form of 40 questions questionnaire were analyzed using statistical method. The result of correlation test showed that there is a positive influence of Microteaching score to the teaching skills of the students. The result of the coefficient of determination is 0.419, which means that variable Microteaching influenced the teaching skills of the students by 41.9% while the other 58.1% was influenced by other factors outside the scope of the research.Keywords: Microteaching, Student teacher, Teaching skills

Abstract

The purpose the of the research is to find out what are the communication strategy used by teacher in teaching English at SMPN 19 Kota Jambi in academic year 2017/2018. The method applied in conducting this research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is four English teachers at SMPN 19 Kota Jambi. In collecting the data, the researcher use classroom observation and interview. The result of this research there are two communication strategies used by teachers while teaching English, namely two-ways communication and transactional communication. Based on the observation and interview result the researcher have concluded that the teacher often using various communication strategy in teaching English, namely two-ways communication and transactional communication. Moreover English teacher often use two-ways communication in teaching English rather than using transactional communication. It will make it easy for the students to understand the subject.Keywords: Communication Strategy, Teaching English

Abstract

This research was done to analyze the grammatical error in writing descriptive text made by tenth grade students in SMA N 8 Kota Jambi Academic year 2018-2019. The method of the research was qualitative method. The sample of the research was tenth grade students of science at SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. Then to get sample of this research, the researcher used random sampling technique. The data was collected by using written test. The finding of the research showed that  tenth grade students of science often make grammatical error in their writing, the error are analyzed based on four types, there are Omission, Addition, Misformation and Misordering. After analyzing the data that got from 37 students, the researcher found out 147 total errors white decide to highest frequency and lowest frequency. The result showed that the highest frequency grammatical error made by students is Omission which 46,93% and the lowest frequency grammatical error made by students isaddition which is 6%. The cause of error in grammatical because learning a foreign language is not the same as learning the mother tongue, it is not the difficulty of the new forms of the language, but mainly by the specific conditions created by customs in native language.Keywords: Analysis, Grammatical Error, Writing, Descriptive Text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to measure the difficulty level of the English semester test items for the tenth grade students at SMA N 3 Jambi City in the academic year 2016/2017. The sample is 40 students of tenth grade science two and taken by random sampling with lottery. This study is conducted to analyze the test items whether it is conclude in easy, moderate, or difficult items. This study is categorized in mix method research, those are quantitative and qualitative. The instrument used in this study is documentation. The researcher take 40 students’ answer sheets as the data that will be counted how many respondents can answer of each item and has been counted by using formula. The research find that there are 35 items in easy level, 2 items in moderate level, and 3 items in difficult items. And all the items can be said in easy level with the result 0,85 index of difficulty. The researcher also find that there are 12 valid items, and 28 invalid items.Keywords: English Semester Test, Item Analysis, Difficulty Level.

Abstract

This research used qualitative research. The researcher used personality traits teory to analysis main character in Cinderella movie. After watching movie and read the script, the reseacher concludes four points from five points of personality traits that areoppeness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness of Cinderella as main character in the movie. That are likes to meet the new people, independent, humble, friendly, enthusiastic, keep the spirit, loving, care, seccumb, helpful, forgiving. It can be concluded that Cinderella is only classified into four types out of five, and it is explained by the behavior and dialogue in Cinderlla movie. It is suggested tofor the future researchers who are interested in deeperstudying about character and characterization of the movie especially on the similar movie. The future researchers can use this research as a reference.

Abstract

AbstractThe objective of this study was to find out the influence of learning motivation towards English learning achievement. This study involved 269 students of eleventh grade, the sample was 40 students of eleventh grade science six at SMA N 3 Jambi City academic year 2017/2018 and taken by random sampling with lottery. There were two variables in this study, they were learning motivation and English learning achievement with 6 total indicators. The method of this study was survey method of quantitative research. Instrument used in this study was questionnaire and documentation. The research found that mean of students motivation from the questionnaire was valued 81,6 in good category. From the findings, it showed that there was no significant influence of learning motivation towards English learning achievement. Based on the analysis of data, the value of tcount is -0,052 ˂ ttable 2,024 in significance 0,025 line 38 counted by SPSS for Windows Version 16.Keywords: Learning motivation, English learning achievement

Abstract

This research was done to analyze the translation methods used by the tenth of social grade students at SMA N 3 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2018/2019.  The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The sample of this research was the tenth of social grade students at SMA N 3 Kota Jambi. Then to get the sample of this research, the researcher used random sampling technique. The instrument of this research was a translation test. In translation analysis processes, the researcher used theory of translation method based on Newmark Theory. The findings of this research showed that there are only four methods used by the students in translating the text. They are Word-For-Word Translation, Literal Translation, Free Translation, and Communicative Translation. It can be seen from the table that the most dominant method used by the 26 students was literal translation method. The second dominant was word-for-word translation method. Meanwhile, the third and fourth translation method applied by the students was free translation and communicative translation. Then, there are four methods which did not applied by the students in translating the story. They were faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation translation, and idiomatic translation method. Here, the students used more than one method to translate the narrative text. Based on the data, literal translation method is the most dominant method used by the students. It happens because the students just translate the words by its literal meaning and they tried to achieve the nearest equivalence meaning in the target language.Keywords: Analysis, Translation Methods, Narrative Text.
