Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemampuan guru pada SMA di Tulungagung khususnya pada bahasa Inggris melalui bentuk TOEFL. Materi pelatihan ini meliputi: Listening, Structure and Written Expression, dan Reading Comprehension. Pelatihan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 16 September 2013- 30 September 2013 dengan diikuti 30 peserta. Pelatihan dilaksanakan dengan metode ceramah, pemberian tugas dan bimbingan. Kemudian para peserta dituntut untuk mengikuti tes TOEFL pada akhir pelatihan, selanjutnya dikoreksi dan diberi skor serta mendapatkan sertifikat. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa Guru pada SMA di Tulungagung masih membutuhkan pelatihan semacam TOEFL untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam bahasa inggris. Pelatihan mempunyai efektivitas dan efisiensi yang tinggi karena para guru dituntut untuk memahami Bahasa Inggris untuk penerepan sehari hari. Untuk Guru mereka dituntut untuk bisa supaya dalam penyampaian dan pemahaman dalam topic tertentu mereka meggunakan bilingual.

Abstract

English as one of international language is really important in current life. That is the reason why English given to students. Not only high school students but also it is given to elementary students. First year of high school students are deemed necessary to master of class of words or part of speech to know the meaning and the function of words in English structure. One word can be categorized in more than one different function. For example “book” it can be categorized as noun which means “buku” and verb wich mean “memesan”. Ing English, a noun can be converted into adjective by adding affixes. Students consider that it is difficult to convert them. They need to memorize the words. In this study, the writer wants to describe the comic strips used in learning process in classroom. The writer wants to describe how teacher use comic strips as a media to teach adjective in classroom. The population of this study is the first grade students of one of Junior High School in Tulungagung. By utilizing the comic strips, students seemed more interested and more enthusiastic in learning.

Abstract

Teaching writing is not easy. Teacher needs to think the appropriate and effective medium that will be able to attract the students’ interest. Due to this case, an animated video was chosen as a medium to facilitate students' learning process to be more interactive and attract students' interest for composing, particularly to write Descriptive Texts. The research explored the use animated videos to teach descriptive text in grade seventh academic year 2023/2024 at MTsN 6 Tulungagung. The type of experiment utilized is a Quantitative with Pre-Experiment Designs. The sample consisted of 31 students as control group. There are three steps conducting this research: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The expert formed the validation of the questions. Based of the data analysis results, the pre-experimental class’s mean scores 76.35 and 86.32 in the post-test. Researchers found that the score of Sig. (2-Tailed) is 0.001 less than 0.05, therefore H0 is denied by acceptance of Ha. So in this case it was concluded that the differences in the analysis of the mean between the results of the pre and post-test meant that there were effects of using the animated video as the medium of learning in writing Descriptive Text in class VII in the 2023/2024 school year at MTsN 6 Tulungagung.

Abstract

Vocabulary is an important element in language acquisition. However, currently many students lack vocabulary knowledge and many teachers still have not implemented technology in learning. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Memrise application in teaching English vocabulary and the differences in students’ vocabulary mastery before and after treatment. The method used is quantitative with a pre-experimental design. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test on 35 students of class X-TSM 2 SMK Sore Tulungagung in the 2024/2025 academic year. The results showed that the average score increased from 66.14 to 86.71 after using the application. The paired t-test showed a t value of -11.031 with a significance of <0.001, which means there is a significant difference. Cohen's d effect size value of -1.865 and Hedges -1.844 showed a large effect. These results prove that the Memrise application is effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery. The implication is that application-based learning such as Memrise can be an interesting and useful alternative in the English learning process at the vocational school level

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perspectives of sixth-semester students regarding the implementation of the English Camp Parade (ECP) Season 5 at Universitas Bhinneka PGRI. ECP is an activity-based learning program designed to promote contextual English use through interactive activities such as drama performances, quizzes, and group discussions. Using a qualitative approach, the study involved 14 purposively selected sixth-semester students and 2 key informants (the ECP coordinator and the chairperson of the English Student Association). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, open-ended questionnaires, and observation, and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that most students responded positively to the program, particularly in terms of increased speaking confidence, vocabulary development, and cross-semester collaboration. However, some students perceived the activities as more entertaining than academically structured. These results highlight the need to improve the program design by balancing educational content with engaging activities. The study contributes to the development of activity-based English learning strategies in higher education contexts.
