Abstract

Regarding the important element of human interaction with the physical and social environment, the Qur'an in a number of verses explains the importance of thinking about the universe and social life to gain knowledge about it which in turn can instill and increase faith in Allah SWT the Creator. In terms of intelligence in the element of human success in achieving goals, the Qur'an explains the main purpose of human life in the world is to serve or obey Allah SWT. This goal certainly does not prevent humans from determining good goals in their life in this world; even the Qur'an and Hadith remind people not to forget the importance of world affairs.

Abstract

This research was to test alternative of learning by mass media clippings in order to increase the creativity and learning achievement of students at MTsN 2 Tanah Laut. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design for the experimental class who received learning by making mass media clippings and the control class who did not make clippings. Data were analyzed using t-test of SPSS version 23. The results proved that the learning achievement of social studies in the experimental class which made mass media clippings as a source of social studies learning was higher than the control class who did not make mass media clippings. The results of interviews and field observations also show that the attitudes and interests of students and even teachers are more positive so that it has a positive impact on improving student learning achievement.

Abstract

Social studies education has a role to develop students' abilities so that they can use their reasoning in deciding every problem they face. The low quality of social studies learning and various student problems as part of the community in their environment encourage innovative efforts from social science teachers to optimize learning, especially discussions about the relationship between humans and their environment. Social studies teachers try to help students in solving the problems they face while trying to improve the quality of learning. The goal is to make it easier for students to understand social studies material and get applicable solutions to various problems in their social environment. This article attempts to describe the results of the literature review, the results of observations and the reality of social studies learning. The ideas presented for the problems in this study are Science, Technology and Society (STM)-based social studies learning. This alternative is expected to be solutional and applicable to the social problems of junior high school and madrasah tsanawiyah students.

The choice of strategy depends in part on the forms of thinking aimed at the student-whether the goal is for students to think critically, for example, or to think creatively, or to solve problems.
