Abstract

Background: Quality of life is an individual's perception of happiness in life, influenced by personal values, culture, and the environment. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a permanent kidney disorder that affected approximately 0.38% of the Indonesian population in 2018, with a high prevalence rate in West Java Province (over 52,000 cases). Understanding the risk factors for CKD in West Java is crucial for better prevention and management, as well as recognizing the impact of anxiety and compliance on the quality of life. Purpose: To investigate the influence of anxiety, compliance, and knowledge on the quality of life of patients in the hemodialysis unit of RSUD Cileungsi. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study included a total sample of 40 hemodialysis patients at RSUD Cileungsi. Results: Among the participants, 32.5% experienced moderate anxiety, 27.5% had mild anxiety, 30.0% had no anxiety, and 10.0% had severe anxiety. The majority of patients, specifically 35.0%, demonstrated a very high level of compliance, 30.0% had a high level of compliance, 27.5% had a moderate level of compliance, and 7.5% had low compliance. Regarding knowledge, 34.0% of patients had excellent knowledge, 22.5% had good knowledge, 32.5% had fair knowledge, and 10.0% had poor knowledge. There was a significant influence observed between anxiety, compliance, and knowledge on the quality of life of patients in the hemodialysis unit of RSUD Cileungsi (p-value 0.000). Conclusion: This study identified a significant influence of anxiety, compliance, and knowledge on the quality of life of patients in the hemodialysis unit of RSUD Cileungsi. It is hoped that these findings will enhance healthcare professionals' awareness of the importance of addressing these factors in hemodialysis patients.

The aim of this research is to analyze parenting patterns and environmental factors for SAD toddlers at risk of stunting in Muaro Jambi Regency. Method: This research uses qualitative methodology with an ethnographic research design. The aim is to study and collect data on environmental factors and parenting patterns based on daily cultural norms and activities adopted by the SAD community in Nyogan Village. Data collection used visual methods, in-depth interviews and FGD (focus group discussions), as well as anthropometric measurements. The informants for this research were 20 people consisting of the main informants, namely 15 mothers of toddlers and 5 key informants. Results: Inadequate maternal parenting and environmental factors are the causes of stunting in SAD toddlers. Conclusion: It is necessary to optimize the mother's caring role in the practice of providing food and hygiene and environmental sanitation to prevent the risk of stunting in toddlers with SAD.

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting among the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) in Nyogan Village, Muaro Jambi, reached 42.2%, far exceeding the district average. Ecosystem changes due to forest conversion forced the SAD to shift from nomadic to settled lifestyles, impacting household food availability. This study explored food availability in families of SAD toddlers at risk of stunting. This qualitative study, using an ethnographic design, was conducted from May–December 2023. Data were collected from 20 informants through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), observation, and anthropometry. Data analysis was conducted thematically using the Onion Diagram and Food Consumption Score (FCS) approaches. The stunted SAD toddlers came from households with "threshold" food availability (FCS score 35). Although cereal consumption was met, intake of animal protein, vegetables, and fruit was very low. Food availability was highly dependent on river fish caught, which were sold to buy market groceries, but low purchasing power limited access to a balanced, nutritious diet. Low household food availability is a major determinant of stunting in SAD. Nutrition education regarding affordable local foods and support for more stable food access for this marginalized community are needed.
