Abstract

This research discussed about “The Use of Spelling Bee to Improve Students’ English Vocabulary Mastery at SMPN 11 Makassar”. The objectives of this research are to find out the improvement and interest of the students’ English vocabulary after using spelling bee. The researcher used quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. The population of this research of the seventh year students at SMPN 11 Makassar. It consisted of 40 students which divided into two group of class where 20 students from VII A as experiment class and 20 students from VII B as a control class. The independent variable of this research is spelling bee and the dependent variable of this research was students’ vocabulary mastery. The instrument of this research was vocabulary test used pre-test and post-test. This research used purposive sampling technique. The results of the research showed that score test spelling bee on pre-test in experiment class is 64.80 and score test pre-test in control class is 53.55. The score post-test in experiment class is 78.85 and score post-test in control class is 50.75. Based on the result of the questionnaire, the researcher concluded that H1 was accepted and H0 is rejected it means that using spelling bee was affective to improve the students English vocabulary of the seventh grade students at SMPN 11 Makassar. Therefore, the rating mean score questionnaire is 62.75, put in the category fairly

Abstract

The focus of this research is the Low SBdP Learning Motivation in Class V SD Al-Khairat Solonsa during the Covid 19 Pandemic. This study aims to determine the factors causing the low SBdP Learning Motivation in Class V SD Al-Khairat Solonsa Students during the Covid Pandemic. 19. The subjects of this study were 19 grade students of SD Al-Khairat Solonsa. Data collection techniques in this study using observation, questionnaires, interviews and documentation with the technique "Descriptive Analysis" with the formula. Of the 19 students who became respondents, there were 84.21% who had high learning motivation and 3 students or 15.78% who had low learning motivation. The low SBdP learning motivation is due to 2 factors, namely internal factors including physical and psychological factors, while external factors are influenced by family factors, school factors and community factors.

Abstract

The objective of the research; (1) To find out the improvement of students’s speaking skill by using Community Language Learning (CLL) method at the first grade SMPN 16 Makassar(2)To describe the teaching speaking by using Community Language Learning (CLL) method implemented at the first grade SMPN 16 Makassar. The first grade student in junior high schools are expected to be able to speak the simple utterances in English. The subject of this research was 32 students of VII.6 in SMPN 16 Makassar. The research method used was Classroom Action Research. The intruments used in this research were speaking tests and observation checklis. The result of the study showed that the students’ responses in learning speaking was good. They enjoyed the activities using Community Language learning (CLL) method in class by having a discussion, sharing, and cooperating well. It means that there is an improving of students speaking skill after being CLL method. The students’ improvement was proved by their speaking test results which increased from all test. In cycle one, all of students final scores were under 60. In the cycle one , no one of them got final score less than 60. From the cycle two, most of the students got final score more than 70. Then, the data of cycle three showed that all of the students got score more than 70. The researcher suggests the teachers to use a topic variation to make the learning process more enjoyable. Then, for the next researchers, they could use this study as a reference to do deepest research about teaching method. Finally, for the English learners, they should keep practicing speaking English every day to make their speaking skill better.
