Abstract

As an international language, English is important in globalization era and therefore taught in secondary schools, including MTs as one of the Islamic ones. However, the students of this Islamic school might feel bored and even they avoid of having English. And, therefore, this study is to describe students' difficulties in learning English during limited offline Teaching Learning Process (PTM) Period and to describe the factors that cause learning difficulties in English during limited PTM Period. Then, the method used in this study is a descriptive research design. The subjects in this study were 33 students who are all in class IX-A MTsN Gresik for the academic year 2021/2022. Data collection techniques used in thisstudy were interviews, questionnaires and documentation, then the analysis used is a qualitative approach. Based on the analysis, the results are that there are two factors that affect the difficulty of learning English for students of class IXA MTsN Gresik, that are internal factors and external ones. The internal ones includes less motivation and interest in attending English lesson, while the external ones consist of the less attractive medias and the less various and innovative methods. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that, first, the students of class IX-A MTsN Gresik still have difficulty in learning English lessons, because of internal and external factors.

Abstract

To improve students' ability to speak passively especially in teaching asking and giving instructions material, supporting devices are needed since students need media or teaching strategies that are relevant. The purpose of this study was to discuss more deeply in the context of students’ perception about the use of Smart TV on the learning process in the classroom which is also related to the problems experienced by students and also to the output produced by students. The design of the study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study were 19 students from 34 students in MTsN Gresik at 8 th grade. The data was collected through a questionnaire, interview and the student’s own performance. The study revealed that students responded to Smart TV as a media in learning speaking on the material asking for and giving instructions are positive: they strongly agreed that by using Smart TV, the learning process more lively, fun and meaningful.

Abstract

The advancement of technology nowadays has impacted contemporary society in many sectors. One of them is the education sector. The 21st century is regarded as the era of technology. It has helped many things in education and made teaching more exciting and effortless. Technology plays an essential role in human life. Teachers can use technology to make teaching media that can increase students’ attraction to follow the class. The research focused on analyzing digital tools that English pre-service teachers use, how it functions, how it benefits teachers and students, and how students respond to certain digital tools. This research was done by analyzing five recorded micro-teaching videos of English pre-service teacher teaching internship programs, four lesson plans, and clarified by interviewing four related English pre-service teachers. This research found that English pre-service teachers did facilitate students’ digital literacy. Students are also left with good responses towards the activity, which is shown by the recorded video where the students actively participate.
