Abstract

Partnership systems still become an interesting issue to discuss. Partnerships with beef cattle farmers can be carried out by several parties, including the private sector, universities, and local governments. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the partnership systems of regional governments and Hasanuddin university from the perspective of beef cattle farmers. This study was conducted in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, from September to December 2018. The samples comprised farmers who participated in the partnership system in Tanete Riaja Subdistrict, Barru Regency, amounting to 80 people. Farmer perceptions of the partnerships were assessed using descriptive statistics with a distribution frequency. The results showed differences in the partnership system between tertiary institutions and local governments, namely, from the system of sharing results and the different benefits obtained by farmers if partnering between universities and local governments.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify external and internal factors in community businesses in Alitta Village. The study was conducted in Alitta Village, Mattiro Bulu District, Pinrang Regency in May 2024. The analysis used in this study was a SWOT analysis. The results of the study showed that internal factors are management, finance, human resources, facilities and infrastructure, and legal umbrella while external factors are technology, business partners, government, village potential, community participation and competitors. BUMDes development is carried out with a focus on three main aspects: improving the village economy, developing existing potential, and managing this potential to meet the needs of the local community. Meanwhile, the lack of human resources for BUMDes management, the difficulty of maintaining the agricultural machinery owned and the supply of raw material inputs that are not smooth. Efforts to overcome obstacles through strategy development can be an option to be implemented, namely Increasing product availability, recruiting new members to run each business division and opening independent outlets. Significant impact because gasoline is an important commodity needed by rural communities. Most farmers who rely heavily on water pumps to irrigate their agricultural land. Gasoline supply shortages cause delays and disruptions in the operation of such equipment, hampering agricultural productivity.

Abstract

The tofu industry is growing because it is a cheap and nutritious food, but the production process produces liquid and solid waste that is harmful to the environment. The research aims to describe the community's perception of the social, economic, and environmental conditions of the tofu-making business and calculate the value of community losses to maintain ecosystem value. This research uses survey and interview methods with communities in tofu production centers. Data analysis using the CVM method (Contingent Valuation Method) to estimate the costs that the community will pay. The research results show that the community's response around the tofu-making business to the social environment is in the category of not providing employment opportunities and children's education. The community's response to economic aspects is in the disagree category, meaning that the tofu-making business has no impact on increasing people's income and purchasing power. Respondents disagreed that tofu liquid waste disturbed the surrounding environment. Before being discharged into waterways, liquid waste goes through a processing process in a wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) so that liquid waste discharged into rivers is free from chemicals and odor. Meanwhile, solid waste is sold for animal feed. Value of willingness to pay (willingness to pay) community to maintain ecosystem value of IDR 80,450/year/KK.

Abstract

Extension workers are among the contributors to agricultural activities. They are to provide guidance and knowledge through the latest information or innovation to enhance farming systems, which ultimately increases crop yields. Additionally, extension workers pursue to transform the behavior of farmers, for instance, their ability to adapt to continually changing situations and conditions. This research aims to analyze the role and effectiveness of agricultural extension in clove plantations in Enrekang Regency. The research was carried out in Buntu Barana Village, Curio District, Enrekang Regency, with 100 farmers as respondents. The results revealed that the extension process employing a group approach method attended by farmers and extension workers who provide knowledge regarding clove cultivation, starting from seeding, maintenance and fertilization, pest control, and postharvest, was successful, meeting farmers’ expectations. In this case, the instructor carries out his role well and effectively. The roles of agricultural instructors are facilitators, communicators, and motivators in the clove cultivation in Buntu Barana Village, Curio District, and they have been considered by the farmers effective in carrying out all roles, especially in clove cultivation activities.

Abstract

Beef cattle business development in Alitta Village, Mattiro Bulu Sub-district, Pinrang District, has great potential but also faces a number of challenges. In this context, this study aimed to assess resource accessibility in smallholder beef cattle farming based on the quality of farmers' human resources. Through qualitative methods and literature studies, primary data were obtained from interviews with farmers and business actors, while secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies. The results show that farmer characteristics, such as age, education, experience and training intensity, affect access to financial, technological and physical resources for beef cattle enterprises. Technology integration and innovation, smart marketing, and sustainable environmental maintenance are key strategies in developing this business. By implementing these strategies, Alitta Village can become a model for sustainable beef cattle enterprise development in the surrounding area, providing sustainable economic, social and environmental benefits to the community and surrounding environment
