Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe whether or not using Board Game is effective in Teaching Speaking at The Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai. The researchers use Board Game in teaching speaking at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai. This is a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. In this research, the researchers take 25 at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai as the sample among 73 students for its population. Then the researchers give pre-test and post-test by employing instruments that is oral test. The test is to measure the students speaking skill. The result of the research is the highest score of pretest is 84 and the lowest is 58. The highest score of posttest is 88 and the lowest is 72. The mean score of pre-test is 71.04. The mean score of post-test is 80.72. The result of t-test is higher than critical value. The score of t-test is -6.273 and the score of t-table is 2.010, it means that t-test is higher than t-table (-6.273 < 2.010). The score of t-test is 2.010 and the degree of freedom (df) was 24. For 5 % significance level and 24 degree of freedom, the critical value on T table is – 6.273. So, it can be said that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. To sum up, the hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is effective of using board game in teaching speaking at the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai.

Abstract

This study deals with the effect of using mind mapping technique on students’ writing procedure text. The objective of this study was to find out if there was a significant effect of mind mapping technique on writing procedure text. It was conducted by using experimental research. The population of this study was the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura which consists of six parallel classes. Two classes were taken as the sample of this research, XI MIA-1 and XI MIA-2. The class of XI MIA-1 was an experimental group and class XI MIA-2 was a control group. The experimental group was taught by mind mapping technique, otherwise the control group was taught by using lecturing technique. The instrument for collecting the data was writing test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that t-observed (5.98) higher than t-table (1.99). It means that there was a significant effect on students’ writing procedure text at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura by using mind mapping technique.

Abstract

The research aims to find out the effect of using story completion on students’ speaking skill to eleventh grade students of SMK Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai at academic year 2020/2021. The problems that had been identified by the researcher are including that students were not interested in learning English. This research uses narrative text with oral test. This type of research is an experiment research. The populations of this research were students of the eleventh grade students of SMK Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai which consisted of five classes of the eleventh grade. The sample of the research consisted of 42 students. The study was an experiment and control research, the experiment class is XI TKJ and the control class XI AKL.  The test was used in the pre-test and post-test. After that, the data has been computed by using t-test, it showed that tvalue was 11,797. The experimental class, standard deviation was 2, 81 and the control class, standard deviation was 2, 45. Then, after looking of distribution table value in certain degree of freedom (df), the result showed that the degree of freedom was 42 (n - 2 = 42-2 = 40). The value of table in line 40 was 2,021 at level significance 0, 05. This remarked that tvalue was higher than t- table (11,797 > 2,021). The hypothesis was accepted. It means that there was a significant effect of using story completion on students’ speaking skill to eleventh grade students of Smk Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai at academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The research aimed to find out a using of spoof text to develop speaking skill by Instagram at the eleventh grade of State Senior High School 1 Selesai. The subjects were all students in eleventh grade that is XI Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department 2 with a population 32 of students and 30 students were chosen as the sample.  This study was qualitative descriptive research. This study used observation, and documentation as a technique for collecting data. The data was collected using a video WhatsApp group actually post in Instagram with group discussion in two member of a group and the video will take one by one. The results of research at State Senior High School 1 Selesai  are the most important for teachers to evaluate learning methods by using of a spoof text to develop speaking skill by social media Instagram so that students can understand the learning material well in accordance with the expectations of each individual.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the benefits of Canva media as a teaching medium in improving descriptive text writing skills. The study applies a classroom action research method accompanied by data collection techniques, namely observation, documentation, tests, and interviews. The subjects of the study included 24 students of class VII-2 SMP HKBP Belawan. The variables of this study are the learning process and the results of writing descriptive texts using Canva media. The results of this study in the pre-cycle showed that the minimum completeness standard that had been determined at 70 had not been met. The average pre-cycle score was 63.95, cycle I reached 68.25, with a success percentage of 62.5%, then an increase was seen in the second cycle with a score reaching 75.58, with a completion percentage that increased to 87.5%. Researchers can conclude that students of class VII-2 SMP HKBP Belawan have descriptive text writing skills that have improved after using Canva-based learning media.
