Abstract

Background: Radiography is an inseparable part of dentistry, one of which is cephalometric techniques. Impacted tooth is a con-dition of the tooth that cannot erupt completely; whereas malocclusion is a mismatch between the two jaws. Objective: To de-termine the prevalence of maxillary third molars with skeletal malocclusion at Hasanuddin University Hospital and Ladokgi Ma-kassar Hospital. Methods: This descriptive observational research used total sampling research design. The population are all cephalometric radiographic data of patients aged 17-30 years collected from medical record data years 2016-2019. The data are processed in tables. Results: A total of 45 (56.3%) samples were impacted and 35 (43.8%) samples were not impacted. Class I skeletal malocclusion is the most common in all impaction cases and women are more prevalence than men. The group of 20-22 years was the most affected sample. The most common angulation is distoangular. Conclusion: Maxillary third molar im-paction with skeletal malocclusion was more common in women, in the age group 20-22 years, with the most impacted angulati-on being distoangular. Class I skeletal malocclusions were the most common in the sample, followed by Class II, and Class III.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has triggered various disturbances, one of which is the dental and oral health service sector because dental and oral health services have a high potential to transmit SARS-Cov-2 during the dental examination process. The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of dental caries in the Radiology Installation of RSGMP Hasanuddin University after the Covid-19 pandemic, by descriptive observation through panoramic and periapical radiographic data from March-September 2022. Data were distributed into tables and graphs. Caries was found mostly in females (61.7%). Based on age, most cases oc-curred in the adolescent group (44.6%), it was found that there were 5 (10.6%) males and 9 (19.1%) females who had class I ca-ries, 12 (25.5%) males and 14 (29.7%) females who had class II caries, 1 (2.1%) male and 3 (6.3%) female who had class III caries. There were no males and 2 (4.2%) females with class IV caries, no males and 1 (2.1%) female with class V caries. It was concluded that the prevalence of caries was found to be most prevalent in females and the majority of females were class II.

Abstract

Radiograph examination is one of the important examinations in diagnosing, determining the prognosis, and evaluating the treat-ment outcome of periodontal disease. Alveolar bone changes can indicate the onset and progression of periodontal disease. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of periodontal disease from panoramic radiographs in the Radiology Department of RSGMP Unhas in 2023. Descriptive observational study through panoramic radiography photo data was conducted in 2023, then the results were presented in the form of tables and diagrams. The most common periodontal disease was mild periodontitis at 37.9% and was found more in women than men. Periodontal disease based on age group, obtained that the highest prevalence in the age group 46-65 years at 42.3%. It is concluded that the prevalence of periodontal disease is still relatively high due to the low level of knowledge and public awareness of oral health maintenance and oral health services that have not been implemen-ted optimally.
