Abstract

This study aims to evaluate effectiveness difference between convex triangular and rectangular cross section rotary  instruments on root canal Enterococcus faecalis bacteria colonies. Samples mandibular premolar teeth with one narrow and straight root canal divided into 3 groups : instrumented with convex triangular cross section rotary instruments, rectangular cross section rotary instruments, and convex triangular cross section manual  instruments. Each group consisted of 9 samples. Standardized teeth length, instrumented to #15 K-file  and sterilized. E. faecalis suspension in BHIB was standardized then 27 root canals contaminated. Root canals were incubated for 21 days. Every 48 hours root canals added with BHIB. Initial samples were collected, plated in agar culture medium and incubated for bacterial count. and then bacterial count was performed again. Data were collected and analysed using Paired T-test and ANOVAThe results showed there are significant  difference on Enterococcus faecalis bacteria colonies amount before and after preparation with all instruments that was used and bacterial reduction amount in root canals were greater on convex triangular cross section instruments than on rectangular cross section instruments even there was no significant difference.

Abstract

Objective : Dental pain is a common symptom that most often causes patient to seek dentist. A survey conducted by the American Association of Endodontics revealed that more than half patients who come to dentist have experienced pain, which originate from the teeth or of the surrounding tissue, can causes difficulties in handling, also the anxiety of the patient. Understanding the pain experienced by patient will help dentist to determine when to make an action. Most patient being fear with pain, so they delay to get treatment from dentist, and lead to the development of further infection and inflammation. The aim of this paper is to improve the understanding of pharmacology and procedures for pain and anxiety management in endodontic treatment. So, it is important to determine accurate diagnosis, management and drug administration.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to compare calcium loss on root canal dentin before and after EDTA application with different varians and concentration with or without surfactant.Material and Methods: Samples are mandibular premolar teeth single root canal, which is divided into 4 groups: Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid (EDTA) gel, cream, solution and negative control. They are decoronated in Cemento-Enamel Junction (CEJ), then prepared with Crown Down Pressureless (CDP) technique and separated bucolingual direction. One side was applied in EDTA according their respective groups and the other side was set as sample before application. Samples before and after application of each group are destructed then subsequently measured for their Ca2+’s amount using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Data were collected and analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey Post Hoc test. Results: This showed significant differences between Ca2+ amount in root canal dentin before and after application either on EDTA gel, cream, or solution as well as on negative control group (p<0.05).Conclusion: Application of EDTA solution causes the highest calcium loss compared to EDTA gel and cream.

Abstract

Objective: Reversible pulpitis can occur in superficial and medium caries, with symptom of sensitivity in a cold drink, sweetness, air, or mechanical contacts on exposed dentine. Subjective, objective and adjunctive examination of radiographic of the tooth 14 showed that there was caries in the proximal section. Methods: The patient was then followed up to observe the sinus tract in the buccal section as well as to know the patient's perceived complaints after the restoration. After removal of the caries tissue on the proximal tooth of 14, then restoration was made and followed up in the first and fourth weeks, the sinus tract in the buccal region was closed, and the sensitivity of the tooth regresses 14 to 16 was lost. Results: The symptom disappears in a short time but was felt long ago or during a long period of time. Mostly sinus tract found in the oral mucosa as the results from pulp or periapical tissue damage. Sinus tract is formed as a result of the discharge of the pus through bone or soft tissue and is formed in the oral mucosa. Sinus tract not always come from pulp or periapical disorders, but also from periodontal disease. Conclusion: A study has been conducted on a patient with dental caries and sensitive in the teeth 14 to 16. The 14th tooth wasdiagnosed as reversible pulpitis and there was sinus tract on the buccal side.

Abstract

Objectives: To prepare for the needs of facing the new normal era in dental practice, especially in aerosol transmission for dental conservation treatment. Methods: Literature review method. Literature searches are obtained from several literature study sources related to the topics to be discussed. Results: The spread of COVID-19 infection could be through aerosol transmission generated during dental conservation treatment. Conclusion: Special precautions are considered to be effective during dental care procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic facing the new normal era.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Radiography is an inseparable part of dentistry, one of which is cephalometric techniques. Impacted tooth is a con-dition of the tooth that cannot erupt completely; whereas malocclusion is a mismatch between the two jaws. Objective: To de-termine the prevalence of maxillary third molars with skeletal malocclusion at Hasanuddin University Hospital and Ladokgi Ma-kassar Hospital. Methods: This descriptive observational research used total sampling research design. The population are all cephalometric radiographic data of patients aged 17-30 years collected from medical record data years 2016-2019. The data are processed in tables. Results: A total of 45 (56.3%) samples were impacted and 35 (43.8%) samples were not impacted. Class I skeletal malocclusion is the most common in all impaction cases and women are more prevalence than men. The group of 20-22 years was the most affected sample. The most common angulation is distoangular. Conclusion: Maxillary third molar im-paction with skeletal malocclusion was more common in women, in the age group 20-22 years, with the most impacted angulati-on being distoangular. Class I skeletal malocclusions were the most common in the sample, followed by Class II, and Class III.
