Abstract

There are few studies on factors influencing cloud computing adoption in higher education institutions. However, there are lacks of understanding of the cloud computing adoption issues in the university. The main objective of this study is to investigate factors influencing cloud computing adoption in a higher education institution. The research method involved using qualitative interviewing with relevant stakeholders and case study at one public university in Malaysia. The analysis was done by using Atlat.ti. There are eighteen factors that have been coded into three main categories of Technological, Organizational and Environmental. These are among factors to influence the decision of cloud computing adoption for a public university. The first category (Technological) consists of nine factors; (i) relative advantage, (ii) cost reduction, (iii) ease of use, (iv) compatibility, (v) operational requirement, (vi) security, (vii) sustainability, (viii) trialability and (ix) complexity, The second category (organizational) consists of four factors; (i) infrastructure readiness, (ii) top management, (iii) knowledge and IT skillset and (iv) financial. The third category (environmental) consists of five factors; (i) Cloud Service Provider, (ii) Geographical, (iii) Data Privacy, (iv) Guideline and Policy, (v) Service Level Agreement (SLA). The result may provide a reference for the adoption of cloud computing in the area of mobile learning or mobile computing. Future work involves conducting similar studies at other case studies including public and private universities in Malaysia.

Abstract

Industry 4.0 is defining as a smart factory through the emerging technology of the virtual and physical world as a collective term of technologies and concepts of value chain organization. The lack of understanding about Industry 4.0 concepts in Malaysia, especially from Higher Education Institution perspective, becoming an issue in Malaysia. Furthermore, industries in Malaysia are still relying on external expertise to implement Industry 4.0 in their environment with the expectation of an increase in productivity, efficiency, quality and to move away from foreign workers. This research aims to describe the relationship between technologies within Industry 4.0, people and the environment from the perspective of the Higher Education Institution in Malaysia and identify the problem of applying Industry 4.0 at the Higher Education Institution. Qualitative interviews were conducted with participants from an academic area and Industry 4.0 expert who has experience in both industry and academia. The Work System Framework is adopted in this research as a theoretical lens to extract the relevant information and deepen the understanding of applying Industry 4.0 at the Higher Education Institution in Malaysia. Results of this research reveal the problems faced by the Higher Education Institution in Malaysia towards applying Industry 4.0 in teaching and learning based on the relationship of people, technology and the environment. The results may contribute knowledge to the universities in preparation for future-ready graduates or talents as human capital for Industry 4.0 in Malaysia.

Abstract

Based on the preliminary study, there are two problems that the development team faces; lack of development model or guideline with culture context for mobile learning developments and lack of cultural context in user interface and user experience of mobile learning development and practices. The main objectives are; (i) to propose Mobile Learning Development Lifecycle Cultural Model and to (ii) assess the proposed Mobile Learning Development Lifecycle Cultural Model. An IT scholar and five IT staff involved in mobile learning development based on the public and private sector at Klang Valley, Malaysia had been chosen for the interview session. The collected data has been analyzed by applying the thematic analysis approach. The first objective was achieved based on IT scholar reviewed on the model proposed. The IT scholar reviewed, (i) challenges on mobile learning development, (ii) theory of Hofstede on the design phase, (iii) user persona on the requirements phase, (iv) advantages of using the proposed model and (v) challenges on Mobile Learning Development Lifecycle Cultural Model. Then, the second objective was achieved by analyzing the qualitative information from the IT staff on the model proposed. The assessment was done by the IT staff for the Mobile Learning Development Lifecycle Cultural Model. There were four primary categories highlighted by the IT staffs which were (i) challenges on mobile learning development, (ii) overcome the challenges, (iii) important elements in mobile learning development and (iv) advantages of Mobile Learning Development Lifecycle Cultural Model. For future work, this study can include more IT scholar and IT staff from diverse positions from multiple organizations.

Abstract

In today's era of vulnerability and volatility, technologies in an organization evolving faster than the traditional landscape. Thus, sets the stage for trust and privacy concern for all the data that flying around in the database. Research on cultural aspects toward privacy starting to attract more ongoing research effort especially in Islamic religious culture. Islam gives great importance to the fundamental human right to privacy. This study aims to investigate Islamic cultural influences on Malaysia's computer professionals' self-regulatory efficacy towards the protection of personal information privacy by adapting the research frameworks of previous works. Further, data for this research obtained through the survey with computer professionals. Out of 226 respondents, 208 data are valid and usable for this study. Spearman's Rank Order Correlation was used to determine the relationship between culture and Information privacy self-regulatory efficacy dimensions. The findings from this research could provide a better understanding of the subject matter and be used as the basis for future studies.

Abstract

This paper presents a study to conceptualize a cloud computing adoption reference model. The case study on the cloud computing adoption was done in one local public university in Malaysia.  The case study was conducted to understand in-depth and real context phenomenon by investigating the influencing factors of cloud computing adoption. The main objective of this study is to design a cloud computing adoption reference model. This study applied Technology-Organizational-Environmental (TOE) Framework by Tornatzky & Fleischer and Diffusion of Innovation by Rogers as the theoretical background of the Cloud Computing Adoption Reference. Ten interviews were conducted with key informants. The theme pattern analysis of data were done by using qualitative computer programs, Atlas.ti. The findings are shown in summarize patterns that supports the conceptualization of cloud computing adoption reference model. Future work include the adaption of cloud computing adoption reference model specifically for the niche area of mobile computing.
