Abstract

In the last decade, the bag of visual words (BOVW) has been used widely in image classification, image retrieval and has significantly improved the performance of CBIR system. In this paper we propose a new method to enhance BOVW using features obtained from wavelet decomposition in order to reduce computational costs in vocabulary construction and training time. We apply several level of wavelet decompositions and evaluate their impact on accuracy of the BOVW. We apply our method on MURA-v1.1 dataset and the experiments results confirm the performance of our approach.

Abstract

In this paper, to categorize and detect pneumonia from a collection of chest X-ray picture samples, we propose a deep learning technique based on object detection, convolutional neural networks, and transfer learning. The proposed model is a combination of the pre-trained model (VGG19) and our designed architecture. The Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center in Guangzhou, China provided the chest X-ray dataset used in this study. There are 5,000 samples in the data set, with 1,583 healthy samples and 4,273 pneumonia samples. Preprocessing techniques such as contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) and brightness preserving bi-histogram equalization was also used (BBHE) to improve accuracy. Due to the imbalance of the data set, we adopted some training techniques to improve the learning process of the samples. This network achieved over 99% accuracy due to the proposed architecture that is based on a combination of two models. The pre-trained VGG19 as feature extractor and our designed convolutional neural network (CNN).

Abstract

Recently, ophthalmic clinics have seen many complaints related to retinal diseases. The degree of clarity of the blood vessels (BV) in the eye can be an important indicator of some diseases affecting the retina such as diabetic retinopathy. To diagnose it, we need to intervene more than a medical team, especially in some difficult cases, through the exchange of medical images obtained by photography. This method has contributed significantly to the production of large data that can quickly saturate transmission, storage systems and increase processing time, so the need to compress images efficiently without modifying the content before transmission represents a major challenge. This paper provides an effective method for compressing color retinal images (CRI), which relies on the use of an integer lifting scheme (ILS) based on cohen daubechies-feaveau wavelet (CDFW9/7) and the set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) to encode large coefficients. The obtained results demonstrate that the suggested method reduce algorithmic complexity, improve the retinal image quality and achieves high objective parameters values for ultra-low bitrate compared to the conventional methods.

Abstract

In the last decade, facial recognition techniques are considered the most important fields of research in biometric technology. In this research paper, we present a Face Recognition (FR) system divided into three steps: The Viola-Jones face detection algorithm, facial image enhancement using Modified Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization algorithm (M-CLAHE), and feature learning for classification. For learning the features followed by classification we used VGG16, ResNet50 and Inception-v3 Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) architectures for the proposed system. Our experimental work was performed on the Extended Yale B database and CMU PIE face database. Finally, the comparison with the other methods on both databases shows the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach. Where the Inception-v3 architecture has achieved a rate of 99, 44% and 99, 89% respectively.
