Abstract

The researchers identified types of commissive act that used in Fatherhood Movie that released in June 2021. This research used Yule’s and Searle’s theory to analyse the data. The research was conducted using qualitative research theory by creswell (2017). The researchers used observational technique to collect the data using Sudaryanto (2015). This research got the data from watching Fatherhood movie. From the results of this analysis, the researchers found 15 data divided into 6 types. There are 6 types for offering, 3 types for refusal, 2 types for promising, 2 types for guarantee, 2 types for threatening, and the last 1 type for volunteering. It can be concluded that the most common use of commissive act in the Fatherhood Movie is offering, while the least is volunteering.

Abstract

This article aimed to analyze an absurd drama entitled "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett. Derrida's theory is used to reveal the complexities contained in the narrative of the drama. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with the technique of deconstruction analysis. The results of this study answer two research variables including binary opposition as a form of deconstruction reading strategy and Arbitrary Relationship as a form of reversal of meaning in the story. There are 6 binary oppositions determined in this deconstruction strategy, namely Existence and ex-absentia, Hope and Despair, Loyalty and betrayal, Friendship and slavery, Perfection and Suffering, Reality and Imagination. Binary opposition is intended to see the relation that has been considered as a single meaning centered on a text. From this hierarchy of those binary opposition deconstruction could be seen that Vladimir and Estragon as the main characters of this drama are representation of the lower class which have been the victims of the Second World War. Absurdity is again present in the relationship between reality and hope. This hopes then leads to a construction of existence that is realized through the narrative character of Godot.

Abstract

Flouting maxims present as pragmatics phenomena that can be easily found in society. It comes in the communication that does not obey the cooperative principles. In this research, flouting maxims in utterances uttered by characters of movie was analyzed. The types of flouting maxims became the object of this research. The researchers used Jurassic World Dominion movie to be the data source of this descriptive qualitative research. Flouting maxims utterances were collected as data and those were analyzed by using the theory of Grice (1975). Observational method and technique of non-participatory were used to collect the flouting maxims utterances. In analyzing the data, the researchers applied pragmatic identity method and pragmatic competence- in equalizing technique. The results showed that there were 15 data found in Jurassic World Dominion movie. The 15 data consisted of 7 data of flouting maxim of relation , 3 data of flouting maxim of quality, 3 data of flouting maxim of quantity, and 2 data for maxim of manner

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the type of flouting maxims in the character in the movie from the data source from the movie “The Lion King 2019” which utterances flouting the maxim. The flouting maxim used the theory by Grice, (1975) cooperative principle which there are four types of flouting maxim: flouting maxim of quality, flouting maxim of quantity, flouting maxim of manner and the last type flouting maxim of relation. The researcher used the qualitative method by Creswell, (2018) Then collecting the data used is an observation method. The technique used note-taking. In addition, used the theory identify the pragmatics approach used to analyze the data. The method used to analyze the data is the identification method, the techniques analysis used identity method by Merriam and Tissdell, (2016). Results found there are fifteen types of flouting maxims there are five flouting maxims of quality, six flouting maxims of quantity, one flouting of manner, and three flouting of relation. Based on the result and discussion are very important in understanding the flouting maxim and are useful for speakers and hearers in creating cooperative communication.
