Abstract

Bukoba Tradition is an oral tradition that delivers news in the form of verse, and the verse contains words and meanings to be conveyed accompanied by music. Bukoba is a tradition that contains values which should be recognized by the younger generation. Bukoba contains educational, religious, social, and traditional values. Educational value is an invitation to listeners to preserve customs, culture and tradition which had been long gone. Religion value is in the form of conveying to the audience for always carrying out acts of worship and never forgetting Allah SWT. Social Value is when the audience can meet their relatives and old friends who haven't seen them for a long time. Traditional value is a medium to inherit traditional values. Introduction to values in Bukoba must be instilled to the younger generation of Rokan Hulu so that they can be nurtured and not eroded by globalization.Keywords: Bukoba, Values, Oral Tradition

Abstract

Pencak silat is a martial arts system inherited by ancestors as the culture of the Indonesian nation so that it needs to be preserved, fostered, and developed. Martial arts is a martial arts movement that aims to protect yourself from things that are harmful and can threaten safety. Pencak silat also serves as a performing art, as a sport for physical freshness, matches and achievements and self-control, that is, the formation of personality, morals, character, faith and piety to God Almighty. The sport of martial arts is also included in the curriculum for learning physical education and health in schools. Pencak silat is a sports sport that is competed at the national and international levels. One of the categories competed in the pencak championship is the singles technique category. A single move is a martial arts match that features a martial artist demonstrating proficiency in a single standard move correctly, precisely and steadily and soulfully with his bare hands and armed. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase understanding of the movement of single moves in the working group of sports teachers in the west rengat district of Indra Giru Hulu Regency. The methods used in this service activity are conventional, namely material exposure, discussion and exercise

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali potensi seni tari siswa SMA Negeri I Kabupaten Siak melalui pelatihan penciptaan tari dengan menerapkan metode komposisi tari. Seni tari merupakan salah satu bentuk seni yang kaya akan ekspresi, dan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang proses penciptaan tari kepada siswa. Metode pelatihan ini akan mencakup sejumlah tahap, termasuk pemahaman dasar tentang gerakan tari, pengenalan konsep komposisi tari, pemilihan tema atau narasi untuk tarian, dan pengembangan koreografi. Siswa akan diberikan pemahaman tentang pentingnya ekspresi diri dalam tarian serta bagaimana menggabungkan gerakan dengan makna yang mendalam. Selama pelatihan, akan ada juga sesi praktik di mana siswa akan menciptakan tarian mereka sendiri berdasarkan konsep dan tema yang telah mereka pilih. Mereka akan dibimbing oleh instruktur tari yang berpengalaman dalam merancang koreografi. Selain itu, akan ada sesi kritik dan umpan balik untuk membantu siswa memperbaiki dan mengembangkan karya mereka. Hasil dari pelatihan ini diharapkan akan meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang seni tari, mengembangkan kreativitas mereka dalam menciptakan tarian, dan meningkatkan apresiasi mereka terhadap seni budaya. Selain itu, pelatihan ini juga dapat menjadi landasan untuk mengembangkan bakat tari di kalangan siswa SMA Negeri I Kabupaten Siak dan memperkaya budaya seni di daerah tersebut.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the Muncak Silat Performance of the Pendekar Bungsu School in Rakit Kulim District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The method used is a qualitative method with descriptive analysis. Data collection was carried out using observation, interview and documentation techniques. The research subjects were 4 people, namely the Pendekar Bungsu silat teacher, Tuo Laman, Musicians, and the Audience. Qualitative data analysis was carried out interactively and continuously until complete, namely data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing/verification. Based on the results of the study on the Muncak Silat Performance at the Pendekar Bungsu School in Kampung Bunga Village, it was concluded that the Muncak silat performance usually consists of 2 to 4 martial artists in the arena or in a large yard, each martial artist uses a sword as a tool to demonstrate all movements harmoniously. In the Muncak silat performance, the martial artists wear clothing consisting of a peci, Malay clothes equipped with a sampin cloth. Each movement of the silat is accompanied by music played by 3 musicians using gongs or tetawak, calempong and silat drums. Silat movements and music go hand in hand in harmony, so that it becomes a performance that can be performed by a large audience.

Abstract

This study explores the role of teachers in the learning of Rentak Bulian dance in class XI Engineering 1 at SMAN 5 Pekanbaru using the Merdeka Curriculum approach. The objective of this research is to describe how the teacher implements various roles educator, facilitator, demonstrator, and motivator, in guiding students through traditional dance learning. The method used was qualitative descriptive with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the teacher applies active and reflective teaching strategies to support student learning outcomes in the domains of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The Rentak Bulian dance learning process integrates local cultural values and fosters student character development. These findings suggest that the Merdeka Curriculum offers flexibility and cultural relevance in arts education. The teacher’s holistic role has a positive impact on students’ performance and appreciation of traditional dance.

Abstract

Tari Gubang is a traditional performing art of the Malay community in Candi Village, Anambas Islands Regency, Riau Islands Province, performed during weddings and other customary ceremonies. This study aims to describe the forms of community appreciation for Tari Gubang based on Bastomi’s four stages of art appreciation: observing, internalizing, evaluating, and appreciating. This qualitative descriptive research employed non-participant observation, structured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Ten purposively selected participants were involved, including community leaders, dancers, artists, and audience members. The results show that the community displays a relatively high appreciation, particularly in observing and evaluating the elements of dance such as movements, costumes, music, and masks. Emotional involvement is evident through applause and participation. However, limited understanding of symbolic and aesthetic values remains. Despite changes in presentation media, such as the use of electronic organ music, strong community participation remains key to preserving Tari Gubang in the face of modernization.

Abstract

This study explores the teacher’s role in creative dance learning within arts and culture education in class IX.1 of SMP YLPI P. Marpoyan Pekanbaru during the 2025/2026 academic year. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through non-participant observation, interviews, and documentation. The research involved one arts teacher and 17 students. Findings reveal that the teacher fulfills multiple roles including educator, motivator, guide, and facilitator by adapting to student needs, interests, and learning styles. These roles help create a supportive environment for students to explore and develop their creativity. The study also highlights the importance of innovative and personalized strategies to overcome low interest in dance, particularly among male students. The findings confirm that a teacher’s comprehensive role is essential in enhancing learning quality and supporting students' character and creative development.

Abstract

This study explores the traditional Warok Reog Ponorogo dance performance at Sanggar Warok Singo Lodro, Bukit Lipai Village, Batang Cenaku District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The research aims to describe the structure and presentation of the dance, including its elements: movement, music, makeup, costume, floor patterns, dynamics, properties, and lighting. A qualitative descriptive method was employed using structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. Data were collected from six dancers, five musicians, and audience members, with Mbah Bejo as the key informant. The findings reveal twelve distinct Warok movements accompanied by traditional Javanese instruments such as kendang, gong, bonang, saron, and trumpet. The "kolor usus" belt is a prominent property symbolizing spiritual power. The dance reflects a blend of ritual, aesthetics, and cultural identity, preserving Javanese heritage in a Riau transmigrant setting.

Abstract

This study examines the values embedded in the Perahu Baganduang tradition in Lubuk Jambi Village, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province. The study aims to identify and analyze religious, customary, traditional, and social values reflected in the practice of this tradition. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Perahu Baganduang tradition has undergone a functional shift from a transportation medium to a cultural festival that preserves ancestral heritage. Religious values are evident in its implementation during Eid al-Fitr, halal bihalal activities, and the use of Moon and Star symbols symbolizing belief in the oneness of Allah Swt. Customary values appear through deliberation and consensus in determining community participation, while traditional values are reflected in the continuity of ritual practices across generations. Social values are manifested in cooperation, mutual assistance, and community solidarity. Overall, the Perahu Baganduang tradition functions as a medium for strengthening cultural identity and sustaining local wisdom within the community.
