Abstract

This research is a qualitative research which aims to describe the grammatical form of preposition in. This study uses Concordance to process Britain Awake's discourse in terms of Corpus Linguistics. This study shows that the preposition in can be in the form of simple prepositions and complex prepositions. These two forms of prepositions conform to the provisions put forward by experts, particularly the preposition formulas Preposition + Noun + Preposition. From the corpus data on oncordance, the simple prepositions is 73 (seventy three) and complex prepositions are 6 (six). The preposition in contains 13 (thirteen) of the 40 (forty) existing meanings.

Abstract

Speaking is the process of building and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols, in a variety of contexts. Low motivation in speaking will be formidable reality for the teacher. The students are often reluctant to speak because they are shy and are not predisposed to express themselves in front of other people, especially when they are being asked to give personal information or opinions. The type of this research is ethnography research (realist ethnography), but the research is not stop in Ethnography but it is followed with Research and Development (R&D). Both of them are included in Qualitative Research. Language teachers always develop speaking skills by using different  techniques  and  strategies,  the  data  indicated  that  the selected  teachers  were  using  the  communicative  approach, direct method, and audio-lingual method and others.  The techniques mostly used were discussion, role play, oral report, questions and answers, conversation and debate. The way teachers assess students’ performance was effective.

Abstract

In this paper, the approach used is a sociological approach. The sociological approach is described by the plurality that is present in Indonesia within the framework of Bhineka Tunggal Ika and Pancasila as the nation's ideology. this paper uses qualitative research. In connection with the formulation of the question in this paper, what are the common causes of conflict between supporters of soccer teams in Indonesia, and after analyzing, explaining, and describing the facts obtained, the author can conclude that the theory of conflict or conflict with its three dimensions is effective for recognizing the behavior of conflicting individuals or groups. In this case, it is the supporters of the Indonesian teams. Then it can also be concluded that the proposed hypothesis can be justified, namely prestige, fanaticism, and revenge are common causes of conflict between groups supporting eleven teams in Indonesia.

Abstract

There are three factors influence children in their daily communications. First is social distance, this factor shows the discrepancy of delivering their aims to older people and it affects impoliteness in communication, for instance, using Javanese word kowe to their parents. Then, in social interaction, the children assert their statement by adding some animal and impolite words to their friends, and they think it as trend in nowadays communication. The second factor is social power consists of four aspects; interlocutors’ position, age, gender, and language impairment. This factor is much influenced by education background and understanding of religion. The third is degree of imposition which explains children’s way of uttering their will. It shows that when children speak to friends or parents, they do not care their words and intonation.

Abstract

Salah satu media pembelajaran kosakata yang diinovasi dan dimodifikasi adalah ular tangga. Media pembelajaran ini merupakan permainan klasik dengan sistem aturan permainan yang mengarahkan pemain untuk menggerakkan pion berdasarkan hitungan angka dadu di seluruh papan permainan dengan beberapa ruang yang ditandai dengan tangga untuk melompat dan ular untuk turun. Ular tangga terdiri dari beberapa komponen yaitu kertas atau papan lebar, dadu, kocokan dadu, pion pemain dan perintah permainan. Snake ladder sebagai media pembelajaran kosakata yang ditujukan untuk penguasaan kosakata siswa dimodifikasi pada komponen perintah permainan agar siswa mampu menyebutkan kosakata yang berkaitan dengan kata benda, kata sifat, kata ganti, kata kerja, kata keterangan, kata depan, kata sambung, dan kata seru. Modifikasi game dikenakan pada beberapa aturan permainan. Perbedaan yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan dapat dilihat dari hasil pretest dan posttest. Pada skor yang terdapat pada pretest terdapat sebanyak 21 responden yang masih mendapat nilai di bawah standar yang telah ditetapkan, namun setelah diberikan perlakuan dengan permainan vektor ular tangga terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar yang signifikan. Karena nilai responden meningkat dengan membuktikan hanya 9 yang masih dibawah standar yang ditetapkan, itupun jaraknya tidak jauh dari standar minimal. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa penggunaan strategi permainan vektor ular tangga dapat meningkatkan kosa kata responden. Strategi ini juga dinilai efektif dalam penguasaan kosa kata.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran pengajaran keterampilan menulis dengan menggunakan inovasi metode Beyond Center dan Circle Time. Menggunakan metode Beyond Center dan Circle Time tentunya bisa menjadi cara yang efektif untuk siswa untuk mengajar dan belajar bahasa Inggris. Peneliti telah melakukan beberapa langkah pada siklus pertama. Yakni perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Pengamatan dilakukan pada siklus kedua. Semua kegiatan selama proses belajar mengajar telah diamati. Mereka adalah sebagai berikut: 1). Sebagian besar siswa termotivasi, antusias dan tertarik dengan proses pembelajaran, 2). Banyak siswa yang berpendapat bahwa metode beyond center dan circle time lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks naratif siswa, 3). Skor rata-rata dikategorikan berhasil. Berdasarkan perbandingan skor pretest dan posttest, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan antara sebelum dan sesudah diberikan perlakuan menggunakan inovasi Beyond Center and Circle Time (BBCT). Metode ini dinilai efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta English Club di Universitas Muhammadiyah Lampung.
